Great magazine, but...
Great magazine, but very deceptive renewal procedures. They send multiple "We need to hear from you" requests to renew without disclosing when your paid subscription expires.
My subscription is paid until April 2027, but they hound me constantly with urgent requests to renew now.

Just watched David Remnick the head of the magazine spew his anti Trump agenda on The daily show. He came on acting like he was a journalist then spun his anti Trump agenda quickly. He used the daily show as a platform to show his wokeness.
ambiguous morality
It doesn't help the best magazine if the subscription section (conde nast) is hardly any different from dubious ones. If you take out a (digital) subscription, you don't receive any information about the conditions, just the message that you are now a subscriber. So it's better not to take out any subscription with these alleged moralists, who are unfortunately not very reputable in this regard. What a pity. A disgrace for TNY.
Fantastic magazine - WORST Customer No-Service
Fantastic magazine, THE WORST customer no-service experience in many years for me. The low, recent reviews tell the story. They renew when NOT authorized, pay lip service to "making things right" and then delay, get it wrong, and slow to refund. I had mini subscription, cancelled a month before it would have auto renewed, had a screen shot of cancellation acceptance (which a representative saw when I sent it) and they still auto-renewed for the max amount. Called, 40 minutes on the phone, 3 people, 5 emails...A week later, still nothing. Currently started a dispute through the credit card I used. Will not subscribe again. Avoid the trials, it seems they are not in synch with the "home office" (the term used by the a few of the reps I talked to, to shift blame). Shame on you The New Yorker!!!!
let me be informed
i was halfway through reading my first article i had read on the website and it said i hit my limit. paying for news no less as a subscription model is stupid

They will just take money from your bank account. You will not receive any email notification that they are going to do this. Do not sign-up, do not join any cheap three-month trial, etc. You will regret it. This is an evil company no matter what the content might be.

I guess I have the same troubles with this medium as other people. Nothing wrong with the safety of my fans and data, they really work on this, but I got troubles with the subscription which deducted money from my account even thoiugh I didn't renew it. 260 bucks just disappeared from the account and it took a while for me to get them back. They didn't want me to give this money back, huh.
never leave your payment info
I am extremely disappointed with their customer service. After waiting two weeks for a response, my issue remains unresolved. They charged my credit card the full price instead of the agreed 50% renewal discount for my subscription. Their solution? They expect me to make an expensive overseas call (20-30 minutes) to explain their mistake to their customer service team, with no guarantee of resolution.
Warning to others: Remove your credit card and PayPal information from their payment system. Based on the reviews here, I strongly advise against subscribing to this magazine. Their customer service seems to prioritize profits over customer satisfaction
Out for Money
The New Yorker Magazine is a great modern publication. I enjoyed the issues very much. However, when it came to cancel, we were given three options - online, by phone, or by email. Since I was working at the time, I tried online first but the function was not working.
So I emailed, and one week later my profile said that I no longer had a subscription. I was relieved to see the status change on my account and thought my request went through.
Zoom forward one more week and my card is charged for a year long renewal.
First, I received NO receipt for this charge.
Second, I also cannot view details about my type or subscription or charges made online on my account.
Third, I spent 40 min with customer service who bounced back and forth between two departments. I spoke with FIVE reps with no resolution.
SCAM!
When signing up I got scammed! Charged 41 gbp for their subscription and 41 gbp for Conde Nast too (never agreed to it)
Customer support is rubbish and they even tell me I don’t hold an account with them! I will complain to my card issuer!
Do NOT SIGN up
Bad mailing experience
If you subscribe (print) from outside the US be prepared to not receive the magazine, or receive 3 months late, or receive just every now and then, quite randomly. Their postal service/system is abysmal. They also always have my mail address wrong, even when I corrected it three times. Big dissapointment, but hey, they are a huge, rich corporation, what can you do? Nothing.
Be careful with subscription: SCAM
Even when I canceled the subscription, Condé Nast debited money from my account. The customer service is an absolute disaster. They totally ignored my problem. Please be careful: canceled does not mean canceled. In my opinion, this app is a scam. The items are not worth the money. Moreover, it is so outrageous that you are shown advertisements. I would not recommend anyone to subscribe to this app.
Also took my money
Same like many of you here. I’ve informed them I want to cancel my subscription but couldn’t log in to my account and they took the money from my account. I’m still fighting and now, after 4 months, they are all of sudden trying to help me with the login.
Of course they don’t accept complaints. And they don’t accept the fact I asked for the cancellation once I bought the bag. And the didn’t send me any digital magazine ever since.
They keep repeating that my cancellation is done, just it’ll finish next year in September.
IMHO they act like thieves. Plus no way to reach someone higher than help desk staff which is constantly changing.
Disappointed but also very annoyed. Will not recommend the magazine to anyone ever.
Debited 150$ without any consent and ignoring my emails!
I keep writing to be refunded after they debiting my account before I could cancel at 12 weeks.
They keep ignoring my emails and I cannot believe they trick readers into subscribing!!
They also said it cost 119$ but they debited the equivalent of 150$!!
Is the New Yorker stealing from readers now??
I want my refund!
Ignoring my emails
I had a trial subscription with them. With no warning they took £90 subscription, which I cancelled immediately. They have ignored my requests for a refund.
ApparentlyNo recourse for change of address lapses
Apparently when I changed the address for summer delivery the end date After Labor Day was not recorded. The post office stopped forwarding mail but did not forward the magazine ater Labor Day. I called September 19 and registered the return to my regular home address. I have not received a copy or an acknowledgement so called today. I was told that my next magazine would arrive October 7 and that there was no system for sending me the curent issue. It was in the hands of thepost office and that's where I should turn.An alert customer care would simply put the issue in an envelope and absorb the cost of mailing.

I don't like that you take sides in the presidential race. I was really insulted with your cover of the presidential candidates on a roller coaster and another cover of the Supreme Court Judges.
1 star because I cannot leave none
1 star because I cannot leave none. This organisation is the biggest bunch of crooks currently operating under the banner of "journalism". They offer a free period before subscription with the right to cancel, only you cannot cancel. they tell you they cannot find your sub when you try to cancel, then they take your money anyway, $119.99 in my case. Then, when you think, ok, well if I have a sub I will use it and you try and click onto one of their articles, you are informed that you do not have a sub and you are asked to subscribe and pay again. On top of that, they tell you they are sending you your refund and the money never arrives. The word "thieves" springs to mind. Avoid at all costs, they are a disgrace.

I was automatically renewed without my consent. I called to cancel my subscription and was denied a refund. This is a reprehensible business practice. I will be certain to inform everyone about this and will no longer be purchasing this publication or any other publication affiliated with them
Free Tote Bag = SO SLOW
Today I received my tote bag.
Thanks.
It just took like 3 years 😞
The articles and art of the magazine is wonderful.

Original review:
I subscribed with the promotion of receiving a free tote bag. My subscription lasted 6 months and they never sent it to me. I contacted support several times and they asked me for the information and told me they would send it. The second time they even told me that I would find the tracking number in my account, but that never happened. Reading the Facebook comments, it seems that no one received the promotional tote bag and everything smells like a scam. Very sad that a large company has these types of miserable practices.
