Disaster on New Year's eve.

I pre-rented the car before my trip to Puerto Rico on 12/31/25.
I arrived to the terminal by the agreed time and was informed they had no cars available. This is New Year's eve and the place was packed with other renters who were also waiting for a car.
I approached the counter and I spoke with the lady there and I asked her why there were no cars when I had already paid for my rental.
I asked her why they did not have my rental and she stated that I would have to wait or I could cancel.
I asked her cancel and do what?
This company is the worst, they nickel and dime you on everything they can.
You have to pay $200.00 dollars for the electronic toll gadget. I asked the lady if I don't use all the money, do I get back a refund and she stated no. So on top of paying $751.00, I had to pay an additional $200.00 dollars.
There was a family ahead of me waiting for their car and they had also paid ahead. I over heard a customer who just returned their rental and he said that his rental had a severe alignment issue.
They then gave that car to the family in front of me.
As I was getting my rental the family returned complaining of the same issue.
When I received my rental it was very dirty, the drivers seat had a stain and the car in general was not cleaned.
One night we left a cup of some juice and when we returned the cup was full of roaches.
NEVER RENT FROM THIS COMPANY, THEY ARE THE WORST.

I strongly advise against renting from Next Car El Calafate

I strongly advise against renting from Next Car/ Summit rent a car in El Calafate. We paid a premium price for a 4x4 pickup truck, expecting a reliable vehicle for the area’s terrain, but what we received was a complete disaster.
Ancient & Unsafe: The vehicle was a model from the year 2020 with over 180,000 km. It felt like it was literally falling apart; the bumpers were held together with metal wires! We were constantly terrified it would break down in the middle of nowhere.
Filthy Condition: The car was disgusting. A spare tire was dumped in the trunk, leaving no room for suitcases. Everything was so dirty that every time we handled our luggage, we had to clean the bags and our clothes.
Zero Dust/Rain Protection: Driving on gravel roads was a nightmare as dust filled the entire cabin. The cargo cover was already torn, and they warned us not to touch it so it wouldn't tear further. When we asked for a replacement, they showed us another car where the cover wouldn't even close, threatening our luggage would get soaked in the rain.
Abysmal Service: Instead of taking responsibility, the staff pressured us to make a split-second decision, claiming there were no other cars available.
This was an expensive mistake. Save your money and your safety—rent from a reputable company instead. Highly NOT recommended.

They robbed me through a sophisticated…

They robbed me through a sophisticated scam. After they suck you in with very low prices, they then upcharge you for insurance & doesn't matter if you bring your verification of being self-insured. They said the Geico declaration of insurance I had did not cover potential out-of-service time for the vehicle if/when it was in the shop, and added $24+ a day to my contract. Also, toll pass was like another 30+ a day, every day, so I declined that and took the longer routes on the whole vacation to avoid tolls. The worst experience ever, and I have been renting cars for 40+ years. I booked this through Priceline or Orbitz for $285, prepaying $175, and they got $685 out of me. They pretty much know they have you have you as their shuttle drops you off there after a long flight, so what are you to do? Call an Uber? I learned a lesson the hard way. Hopefully someone will read this and NOT get robbed by this outfit. They did not even offer a bathroom there, and this older lady had been waiting for a shuttle back to the airport and needed one. I felt bad for everyone who got off a shuttle. There is so much more; when you get there, you go into a phone booth and have a video call with an agent, so they don't have to risk getting punched when they screw you with a royal scam. I will make sure to deal with a name-brand rent-a-car agency moving forward.

Just Don’t..

If I could give negative stars I would. Let’s start with the pickup debacle. We were picked up from the airport and shuttled to an industrial district not far from the airport. We arrived well before the time on our reservation just to wait in line for over a hour. There wasn’t a single person in sight, white booths with a screen took the place of an actual person helping you (which had zero ventilation, in 90 Florida heat). When it was finally our turn to enter the human sized easy bake oven, it was still before our reservation pick up time. The person we spoke to was personable.. at first.. until he wasted about 25 minutes going over a few things to then say, “you’re late for picking up your reservation. There is a late fee..” which I kindly advised him that we had been there well before the pick up time waiting in line and I had tried calling their customer service number to be met with a automated message that literally led to no one. He waived the late fee as a “courtesy” and we went about the next 45 minutes shut in this stuffy, hot, sweatbox going over our reservation. He took the deposit of $250, up sold us the toll package,($19 a day, but if you don’t purchase it they’ll charge you $35 a day. Yea.. make that make sense.) and the amount of the rental. We get outside to the vehicle and we leave. The car got us to and from where we needed to go, however, someone from the previous drive left their worn socks in the vehicle and the battery in the key fob was dying. But considering we went with the cheaper option, we just dealt with it. Fast forward to returning the vehicle. We ensured the gas tank was full, the car was spotless and we had made sure that we had followed the directions to a tee (we took before and after pictures and videos because we did not get a “this place seems trustworthy” vibe, but by the time we got there it was too late to cancel so we were kind of stuck). We left thinking we were in the clear. NOPE. Got the itemized list to find out that they had found a way to charge almost DOUBLE what we had agreed upon with hidden fees and surcharges. Moral of the story, pay a little extra to go to a reputable car rental agency because in the end it would have been cheaper than to do business with NextCar. Will. Never. Use. Them. Again. Also shame on Expedia for somehow giving this company a 4 star rating. I felt like I could trust their review but I’ve learned my lesson there too.

Horrible Franchise, Use ANYONE ELSE

The people that run this place barely speak english and thats not usually an issue for me, but even i couldn't understand them half the time. I sent a crew to California to do a job. My guys rented 2 vehicles. about two weeks into the project the rentals needed to be extended. I called to extend, and the guy(at first) was telling me we couldn't extend. I said, well we are, do you not want our money? He said yes, but we needed more insurance. I said ok, just charge us, but no he wanted us to find insurance from another company and then come back to them to extend the rental, BUT only the guys that rented the cars could do that. I said my guys are in the pacific ocean on a project, they can't do it. Can I? They said no. I said well when the project is done you can just bill me. which is what happened. But not before the ms indian manager calls to tell me we will be liable for damages, and if anything happens to the vehicles, blah blah. I said these vehicles are locked in a gated facility with guards. 24/7. nothings happening to the vehicles, still got berated by stupidity. we ended up paying them about 5gs because my guys were there for about a month or more. Still they were unhelpful, stupid and dont understand if someone is working either on a government facility or offshore, then can't just leave and go find an insurance company. I ended up using sixt when i went to cali and it was the best and easiest experience ever. Oh and everyone there spoke f****** english.

Scammers

Scammers. I rented through Expedia. The price around $60-80 for 2 days. When I went to pick up the car it was in a phone booth and they where asking $2,500 for car deposit. If I can give them 0 review I would.
Cuidado con este car rental. Son unos ladrones. Me pedían 2,500 de depósito por un carro que rente for 2 noches ente $60-80. Los rente por medio de expedía. Mejor Renten de una compañía conocida.

Scam

Scam - this place over books car and requires payment in advance. We arrived I. Puerto Rico and went to the store. Was 19th in like waiting for a car I paid for…people in front had been there for 5+ hrs waiting. We incurred $100 Uber drive to our rental and never received an update on the car. Do not use and do not use economy bookings - 2 months later still no refund.

If I can give no stars I would

If I can give no stars I would. We rented in Aguadilla,Puerto Rico. They have the same shuttle driver handling the car rental reservations. They are overworked and understaffed and don’t give a care in the world about the guests experience. The first vehicle we got left us stranded twice. We then returned the vehicle the next day with a full tank which we didn’t even receive a reimbursement for. The second car had a live roach in it and that in itself just completely disgusted me. On top of that every time I entered the vehicle (bc at this point my husband didn’t want to return it) I kept sneezing and having allergies. Would not recommend.

Run, don't walk

Run! Do not walk away from Nextcar. Never in my life have I been so swindled. First of all they stranded us at the airport as their rental office is offsite and requires a shuttle, which they stop running at 10:30 at night. Then they charged us $50 because we did not pick up our car until the next day! (as if that cost them anything for me to use the car one less day) The rental office has no one at the desk so you have to register your car in a phone booth area with an agent on a screen, and mine was hard to understand as English was his second language. They then made me produce my car insurance coverage to avoid having to pay for theirs, yet they still charged me a $250 deposit for "incidentals" which they said would be credited back to me when I returned the car unharmed (which I did). However they never did refund the $250 back to my card. I cannot warn you enough to stay away from these shysters. For the good of everyone, they need to go out of business.

This company makes money on your cancellation

This company makes money not on your car rental but relies on giving you so much trouble that you will cancel the booking and forfeit the paid fees. 10 out of 10 people at the time ended up canceling the booking. I spoke to most of these families and below are some reasons they told me.
1. The rental company has a policy that if you don’t pick the vehicle within 1 hours of the booking time, they may cancel and you will need to book again with new price. Note they rent cars for $1/day and if you cannot reach in time, the new price will be much much higher. One of the person was late as he and his family were not picked by rental van for 2.5 hours due to first no van coming and when came it was full. I had to fight with driver to get me in. And so I can understand if this guy was nice then getting to rental office in their free shuttle is very painstaking.
2. I reached in time (exactly after 1 hour wait) and they asked me to buy insurance for $400. Note that my rental was $5 for 5 days and $29 fees for a total of $34. I declined and after that the drama started. They asked me to pull my insurance declaration page. If you know what this is then stay with me as things get worst. Then they find all sorts of bull shit clause to tell me that it does not meet their company policy. I had a $500 deductible and so that would not work. I said my chase sapphire reserve credit card also has insurance and they said it is not sufficient. So I had to forfeit $29 fees and cancel. I am disputing the charge with my card now.
3. This other family amazingly was able to get through all this as he had $250 deductible insurance. But at the end he also canceled as he was told that a temporary hold of $5000 will be put on his card and it would be released after 30 days if there is no toll or other charges. The alternative was to get an Easy pass for $10/day charge and only $2000 deposit.
4. There was one person who was denied as he booked under his wife name and they would not add him as a driver without additional fees.
5. There was another family who had to cancel as the booking name and the credit card that had insurance was different.

I can keep going with the list. If you think you can outsmart this company and get a car for $1/day then you will be very disappointed and lose your paid fee amount. They will find a way to cancel. The worst part is that you will lose at least 3-4 hours on this stupidity. Please save yourself with this trouble. This is a very bad company. This was my experience at Orlando FL.

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with NextCar and would absolutely not recommend renting from this company.

I paid extra for two car seats, expecting them to be safe and reliable. What I received were seats that did not feel safe or properly maintained, which is unacceptable when it comes to children’s safety. If you’re charging a premium for equipment, it should at the very least meet basic safety standards.

On top of that, there were hidden fees that were not clearly disclosed at the time of booking. The final cost ended up being significantly higher than what I was originally quoted, which felt misleading and dishonest.

To make matters worse, customer service was essentially nonexistent. When I tried to address these issues, I couldn’t get clear answers or meaningful help. It felt like once they had my money, they didn’t care about resolving concerns.

Overall, this was a frustrating and stressful experience. I would definitely not rent from NextCar again.

Please read this

Please read this. Don't fall for this rental company scam. They advertise a price that's a lie. When you arrive, you're attended to in a booth by someone online, which is already absurd; they charge more than 200% more than what they advertise on the website. And if you're a resident of the United States, you also pay interstate taxes. The service is terrible, and when you start to question them, they turn off the online screen in your face, and you're left without your reservation, or you'll have to pay whatever they want, which is outrageous. I don't recommend it; be careful if you don't want to go through a lot of stress. Oh, and it's super complicated to get there.

Just awful. Bait and switch, pressure, upcharges galore. This place should be shut down. I showed my declaration page, my insurance covers rentals. They would not let me leave without charging hundreds of dollars above what I had arranged for through Expedia. Avoid at all costs.

Extortion

This was plainly a straight up scam.
The location for pickup was different than ALL the other pickup services at the airport. We unfortunately forgot this after traveling
(which I think is understandable). We texted and called them several times at 2 or 3 diff. numbers but there was no response. The only message we got was to say that our car would be ready in TWO HOURS and we received that AFTER we left the place for another agency.
When we finally figured out their address (which was wrong) and got a taxi there (and got ripped off on that ride!) they made us wait and wait and wait for no apparent reason only to tell us that the insurance would be an extra 1200USD!!!!!! I selected the insurance when I made the reservation and showed them that PLUS my personal insurance but nope! THANKFULLY there was a guy from another independent Mexican agency (Esteban at ETC Car rental- USE HIM- great guy!) who helped us out and gave us a great deal! And then I rerented a car from
him because I elected to stay longer. So, your little scamming girl running that agency COST YOU TWO RENTALS TOTALING OVER 1800USD.... Needless to say, that WAS NOT the way to welcome one to Mexico and I was UTTERLY LIVID!
TAKE YOUR NAME OFF OF THEIR AGENCY as I am about to TEAR THEM UP ON EVERY SINGLE RATING MECHANISM I CAN FIND.

I should have listened to the others

I should have listened to the others. They pretty much force you to buy insurance or you're without a vehicle. You need your insurance declaration and it has to show 300k coverage minimum. When I refused to pay they didn't want to give me my prepaid vehicle. I wish I would have known the law and their shady practices. Now disputing the charge which is a pain. Avoid these people at all cost. Stranded at the airport with all companies out of cars. They know they have you by the you know what. Scam.

Do not rent from Nextcar

Do not rent from Nextcar. I was given a car for which the tags expired 8 months prior. I was pulled over by the police on a busy four lane highway at night in an unknown area. I was not doing anything that caused the officer to pull me over; his tag reader flagged the car as tags expired. I contacted Nextcar within an hour and was told the issue was escalated to management. Received an email the next day that the issue was escalated to management. Contacted Nextcar two more times without any response. Four days later no response. For your safety and peace of mind do not rent from Nextcar.

They are dishonest and not as inexpensive as they advertise.

They advertise the lowest rates. Then you get to the counter and they nickel and dime you. And give you incorrect information. I asked if I could use my EZ pass and was told that it wasn't accepted in the Tampa Area. I was told I HAD to pay $14 per day to be ABLE to go on a toll road. If I didn't accept that condition, I would have to pay $28 a day. So I opted in for the $14 a day. I left the airport and immediately saw EZ pass WAS accepted on FL toll roads.

I called the company after to complain and they refused to reimburse me the $14 a day I was charged. They refused to refund it to me.

I will NEVER use them again. Neither should you,
