Wont visit again!!!

Wont visit again!!!
Visited the crooked billet as received a birthday round of drinks. Asked the waitress about using the voucher before ordering anything. She said it would work but to have the food and drinks on different tabs. The pub was busy and staff apoligised for the long waits. When going to leave we paid the £75 bill for food (would not have come to the pub at all without the voucher). Then went to pay the drinks bill. The polite staff memver tried to scan my voucher. When this did not work he asked his manager who was very rude. She stated firstly for me to refresh my phone which i did. Then that i hadnt spent enough on drinks (which i had). She then took my phone and read the terms aking me whether i had checked if the pub still took it. When i said which waitress i had checked with she became annoyed with me and said i was rude. She said if the code doesnt work theres a reason. The kind waitress politely said to the manager that someone elses code hadnt worked the other day to which manager ignored. The manager then said i would have to pay the whole bill to which i refused. She got annoyed and then offered a 33% discount. I said i would only pay the £20 as the voucher said to which she very loudly went of to complain about me to a member of staff further behind the bar. She then came back and very annoyed stated that she would have to accept my £20 but that i shouldnt be so rude. I gave the cash and told her i wasnt being rude and thank the other staff who were kind and apologised for her behaviour whilst she was out the back. The female who identified herself as manager was wholly unproffesional, intimidating and rude and i have enjoyed the pub for years. I will not revisit the pub whilst the manager remains. An evening which should have been very pleasant (and for which the manager had asked earlier if it was my birthday celebration and i had confirmed so) was ruined making me look like a bad person not paying theor bill which wasnt true in a full pub. I will return some time as i dont spend my money to be insulted by rude managers. Filling out nicholsons complaints form only gets them to email you asking you to ring the pub. Not a good way to deal with issues.

The amazing Arygll Arms!

I booked a table in advance and was delighted to have a lovely seat by the window. My waiter, Milosz, was courteous, attentive, and extremely helpful. I ordered the spinach and mushroom suet pastry pie with mashed potatoes and roasted carrots, followed by sticky toffee pudding and custard for dessert. The meal was delicious, beautifully presented, and the service was impressively quick, especially since I had a theatre booking nearby at The Palladium.

The prices were very reasonable, and I especially appreciated the complimentary drink (don’t forget to download the app for this offer). The atmosphere at The Argyll Arms is fantastic, filled with archive materials of theatre programs and black-and-white photographs of icons like Cilla Black, Morecambe and Wise, and Julie Andrews, among others. The ground floor is adorned with fairy lights, creating a warm and inviting ambiance, and there’s a small area outside for al fresco dining. The pub has a friendly atmosphere and was clean and tidy. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!

Went to london for business

Went to london for business. Stopped by nicholson’s pub to wind down a bit. The staff were so uninterested in helping me. Even when they spoke they were short had zero inflection in their tone. Like i was bothering them or something. And when i tell you their looks could have killed - i mean it. They looked at me like I disgusted them. I felt extremely uncomfortable. As a first time visitor to london - i can’t express enough how this experience soured it.

Harkers in York

Visited Harkers in York yesterday afternoon. The service level from Sam was outstanding. I had been having trouble with the Nicholson app in another outlet, but Sam took the time to guide me through solving the problems and then topped it off with a perfectly pulled pint of Landlord. Sam is an asset to this pub.

Afternoon lunch

Our family of six adults went to the Scarborough Taps in Leeds, the pub was very busy( as usual) but we had booked a table, staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, the meals we had all different were all delicious. The manager was busy helping someone who was ill, he was very kind and concerned for him, when he had recovered , the manager came and explained what had happened and asked if everything was ok with our meals, altogether we all enjoyed our afternoon.

Avoid if you're after gluten free food.

I love Nicholson pubs and have had drinks in there for many years, however they have always been awful at catering for anyone that can't have gluten. If you're after food and can't eat gluten I'd suggest going elsewhere. Such a shame, especially as the staff are always fantastic.

Bacchus Bar, Birmingham

We had pre-booked but were running late, called to explain, which was not a problem.
Great décor, lovely food. Not many staff around, however Jamie made up for this.
Food was lovely, beer was great!

Lord Mayor's Day rip-off…

The Blackfriar is a stunning pub and one of my all time favourites so I called in for a pint during The Lord Mayor's Day.
I enjoyed a delicious pint of Landlord but didn't notice the price at the time.
I was astonished later when I noticed on my bank app that the pint had cost me £7.15!
This is frankly outrageous exploitation by Nicholson Taverns and I will never go to any of their establishments again.
The whole experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Travellers from OZ

Stopped at 2 of Nicholson's pubs to water the horse & fill the belly in 2 different locations over a week's stay in London. At each pub from the menu we ordered sticky beef brisket croquettes, however they were not available each time. Also the seafood pie was not available. Nicholson's, if dishes are not available then the menus should be updated or noted dishes are not available

Out for dinner @ nicholsons / Deacon Brodie

Wow 😮

Adults portion size was a kids portion,

Kids chargrilled chicken & chips ( 1 piece chicken size of my thumb & 12 chips) £6

Bowl of chips (tea plate) £5 😮

Balmoral chicken & mash really tasty (4 bites and chicken gone, mash = 2 forks full & gone)
*had to order side plate of chips** & still hungry 🤤 £15.00 (not counting chips)

Chicken burger and chips - reasonable decent portion £16.50

Definitely won’t eat here in future 🧐🤬
Suppose it’s ok to scam tourists as they won’t be back anyway 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Didn’t ask if we wanted to pay a 10% service charge and added it automatically 🤬🤬

5 star pub in Newcastle upon Tyne.

I visit the Victoria Comet pub in Newcastle upon Tyne most days of the week. I am always amazed that the pub is so welcoming. All the staff are really excellent and extremely professional, dealing with a whole cross section of customers. They are patient and understanding and I need to give each one of them a 5* rating. They always have loads of various beers to choose from and the place is kept immaculate, with staff continuously cleaning the tables. It really is a pub that makes you feel very welcome. Probably the most efficient and welcoming staff I have come across. 5***** all round !! An excellent pub, in every respect! PS. The food is excellent too! Particularly the fish and chips and Nicholson`s award winning pies, with mash and veg etc.

Employment in Nicholson Pub Hammersmith

Employment in Hammersmith Broadway Nicholson Pub was bitter experience which was handled by inexperienced Kitchen Manager-Malek was cunning deliberately assured fulltime 40 hours Line Cook and promised higher wage then London wage but made sure did not write on the Application form and disappeared, after couple of hours work shift- So I ended up leaving the incomplete form with Bar Tender cunningly filled wrong low wage rate and made up less hours except 40 hours- Started my job and gave me shifts of a Kitchen Porter-within a week started to give me 1 shift per week and even scheduled shifts were cancelled same day-I even went to work based on the rota he made and sent via email but he cancelled my shift so had to return home-I have over 25 years of Culinary Experience have invaluable experience Carnival Cruise Lines as a Chef De Partie, for 4 years and acquired vast experience in Hyatt Regency Resort for 15 Years and many other Head Chef Experience in Cayman Islands-Mr Malek Ouldslimane was unreasonable, never has professionalism, no ethics rather gives a poor image for Nicholson Pub thought a remarkable pub but managed in disarray-he has awkward broom (1 feet) and dust pan, literally you have to bend and sweep, cannot afford vacuum cleaner, all has stock chipped or craked dinner plates, tiny uncomfortable staircase with kitchen upstairs where all store and stock has to be taken up-He only shows his attendance for an hour or two and vanishes-Daily deep clean and no kitchen porters nor night cleaners- Nothing is made fresh except fries, on second day he was expecting my to run the kitchen. then next thing he sends WhatsApp chat stating my contract is terminated-then stole of hours as well and made me wait for almost 3 weeks for pay check- So fall into the trap of Mr Malek Ouldslimane' perhaps felt threatened by my vast experience and released me unfairly-Hope the Owners or Higher Management looks into this matter seriously- By the way I do not want the job but i only wanted to bring it your attention- NO contact for HR, no email.

Went to the Bacchus bar in Birmingham

Went to the Bacchus bar in Birmingham. Did not have the wine I wanted and the steak was more like braising steak. When I complained the member of staff said he would let the chef know, but there was no feedback. I was not expecting compensation, but an apology would have been nice. I paid £26-50 for a bottle of pinot that would probably cost £5 in supermarket. They will not see me again

Useless app & marketing

Never come across such appalling marketing strategy for a pub. Downloaded the app & had discount vouchers on it but the problem is you have to ask for it to send you a code on your mobile before you can use the code. Do they think they are a bank? Such stupid promotions will kill their business. Deleted the app & wont go there again.

The Old White Swan - York

The salt shaker was empty so we went up and asked the waitress Jess (who was also the manager on shift on Tuesday evening) for more salt. Jess shook the shaker vigorously and stated with an attitude that you have to shake it hard for the salt to come out. Then complained in a negative tone “now look there’s salt all over the floor.”

Jess refused to refill/change it. I thought it’s best to ask a different member of staff, so we went to queue at the bar with the salt shaker. However, Jess was walking on the floor and approached, after asking if it’s possible to re-fill the salt as it’s completely empty Jess snatched the shaker off and shook it on her hand this time, then rolled her eyes and walked off to get a new one.

We decided to finish our food and leave immediately. Although, the initial plan was to stay for a couple of drinks after our meal - but our mood was ruined.

Upon leaving we told the bar woman about our negative experience and asked for the waitress’s name and she stated that her name is Jess and she is the manager on shift this evening. The bar woman sincerely apologised about the manager’s disgusting behaviour and gave a card to put in an official complaint as she was unable to escalate the issue due to no other managers being present at the time to report to. The poor customer service and bad attitude which we received ruined our whole evening.

It’s a shame we didn’t enjoy our time at The Old White Swan because of the service.

On a positive note, the food was absolutely delicious (we would like to extend our thanks and compliments to the chef and bar woman)
