Do not stand by product very bad customer service. When you buy the doors they go above and beyond when you receive them and have an issue nowhere to be found.

Poor customer service

Door was delivered with no visible damage. Contractor installed door with precision. One problem, the vented side light wouldn't open. Made several calls to customer service, was told your problem you fix it. When a door costs $ 6,000, it should work as advertised. Don't spend your hard earned money with this company, because they don't care about the customer, once they have your cash.

Bad Experience

Do not buy a door from Nick’s Building. They are fickle with contracts. Nick’s built us a very pricey custom door and it arrived damaged. Per the contract, we crated it back up and shipped it back to Nick’s. We were then told that the “boss” said to make us a new door, but one week later they told us the other “boss” unilaterally cancelled our contract and refunded our money. No explanation was given after I requested a conversation with an owner; the owners don’t return calls.
We are out hundreds of dollars we paid an installer to remove the old door, uncrate the new door, discover the damage on new door, then reinstall my old door. They don’t care.

Refinishing a door

I purchased a door from Nick's Building about six years ago. While Nick's supplied me with a great door, my builder neglected to stain and seal the door for about seven months. Being exposed to the sun for all that time without having protection took a toll on the wood and it aged very poorly (through no fault of Nick's). The door was now in bad shape and Nick's recommended I have Spiros Zougras repair and reseal it. Spiros did an AMAZING job and brought the door back to life, it looks brand new, and is now beautifully stained and properly sealed. I'd highly recommend Spiros for any door repair needs. You can get Spiros contact info from Nick's, since apparently they recommend him to all their customers.

Great materials bad quality control and…

Great materials bad quality control and lack of customer service.

After communicating for over a year about an issue I was told read the warranty.

In this case you are to fully inspect the doors before instillation or painting or staining.

The doors looked great but the area I did not inspect was the boring for the latch that holds the door closed is inserted into door .

I did not notice that the door opening on the edge of the door, where you install spring loaded latch, had been bored 125 thousands or 1/8 inch to big.

This cause a gap all the way around the metal latch have a gap and also made the support edges very thin and susceptible to breaking.

Did I look at the doors before loading them in the trailer yes.

Did I have a set of calipers to check the opening for the latch no and to be honest you would think something as standard as that bore would never be an issue.

By the time it was discovered the doors were already installed so I spoke to Dave (nice person but according to John is not empowered to do anything but be nice) who gave me some suggestions on how to repair then for the next year said they would probably do something to help with the cost I incurred to make repairs and repaint.

When I talked to John, yesterday, he said basically it was my fault for not inspecting the door completely and that read the warranty and have a nice day.

He did say maybe they could do something in the future by discounting on a new order but on these door just sell them on craigslist.

In the future, I would have more respect a company that would not lead you on for a year plus and just say we make bad product and we don't care because we have good attorneys that know how to insure the end customer get stuck with our mistakes.

Do I believe they make a good product, yes but when a company makes a mistake they should stand up and do what is right.

All of the great reviews are justified

All of the great reviews are justified. I contacted Nick's Building after seeing their billboard along the highway. The price and selection were far better than anything I was able to find with local companies. The ordering and billing process were seamless, and they followed up with me regularly to update me on the completion date. I am thrilled with the quality of the door, finish, and glass. Highly recommended.

Had a very good experience overall with…

Had a very good experience overall with Liz, Caroline and others at Nicks Building Supply. This is the 5th door I have purchased from them. Good quality mahogany doors. Their customer service was very responsive with some staining repair issues we had with the most recent door and it was handled immediately and a repair kit was immediately sent at no cost. Overall good experience with their doors and service.

Highly DO NOT recommend this business

Highly DO NOT recommend this business. 5K new wood exterior door has water intrusion after the very first rain. The installer confirms the product is defective, improperly waterproofed and sealed. Leaks by the glass panels, leaks by the wood panels. No customer service gesture/solution offered of any kind, claims the insufficient overhang versus the apparent inferior product. No way to contact the management instead being told by customer service they will hang up on me if I were to talk to them anyways. Run arounds for 2 weeks to be able to address this with anyone. Ultimately will be pursing legal action.

Our new front door/entry way

Our contractor, Matt Bafia, told us that there was a great place in Crown Point, IN that could make a solid wood mahogany front door for us. That place is Nick’s Building Supply. The rest is history. We visited Nick’s, saw many door choices, stain choices, talked to those working at Nick’s, talked to customers who bought doors from Nick’s and even had a tour of the manufacturing plant to see the full process of making these custom doors.
Weeks later we returned with our front entry measurements and a deposit so that we could start the 12 week process to make our door. The day finally came when our door was delivered and installed. It was everything we had hoped for and more. Matt Bafia did a great job, paying attention to details, as he added all of the finishing touches. Our new door is absolutely beautiful, allowing plenty of light into our foyer and adjoining hallway. At Nick’s they know what they are doing... with many years of experience they could design our door with exact measurements, suggesting the perfect stain color and style of door. We were told that the door should “pop!” We chose a door with a lot of glass and 2 sidelites and Jacobean for our stain color... it is perfect...the door “pops!”
We love our new door from the inside and outside. Our friends and neighbors are stopping by, calling and texting to tell us how much they like our new door, as well. Thank you, Nick’s Building Supply.

Impressive! High Quality!

Impressive! High Quality! We are from Iowa, looking for odd size, well made doors. Came across Nick's website. The quality of these products can't be seen on line. We went to Indiana to pick up the products, not expecting much. The doors are made of such high quality wood, milled perfectly, and finished better than expected. The show room was fun, as well! P.S. BEST People to deal with in person and on line. Did I gush enough? I should, and you will too when you buy from Nick's.

DISAPPOINTED

DISAPPOINTED
Order # 17450

I was searching the internet for a round top entry door. I found Nick’s Building Supply; they had doors for quick ship. We saw a door that would work for our needs. We called Nick’s and asked about said door and shipping to our zip code. 1st quote was $1.100. I then called again, and shipping was reduced to $900. During my 3rd conversation with Nick’s I spoke with Elizabeth and shipping cost was reduced to $500. The total cost of the door with shipping was $3,420.12. I called Elizabeth and confirmed the door order. She shared she would confirm availability with the warehouse. I discussed possible concerns I had with Nick’s including knots, warping with the weather conditions, shipping logistics. After following all the instructions about shipping the door arrived. The door arrived in a container that was partially opened. After being assured the container was bullet proof, and put together with ring shank nails, it was stapled. Upon inspection, it was obvious the jam was damaged. One side of the jam had been removed and replaced, the glue had not been removed and the wood had not been stained where it was sanded. The jam is split up about six inches where the weather stripping inserts. The jam also has four holes in just above the threshold on each side.
At no point in my multiples conversations with Elizabeth was I informed that the door I was purchasing was marked CL (clearance), which I now know after speaking with Dave is sold “As is”!
We were then informed by Dave that the door had been a Demo Door. There was nothing in the contract about “As is” condition nor on the order form. I shared with Dave that I would never buy a door for $3,420.12 in “As is” condition without inspecting it first, which was impossible since we live 3000 miles away. Dave’s response was that the door was marked down $500. I now have to bear the cost of the repairs along with the hassle.
This situation is nothing short of fraudulent. The advertised picture shows note of the defects, nor was there any indication that the door was a demo or sold “As is”.

I never thought I would fall in love with a door, but I have. It is beautiful and a wise investment for your home. Nick's Building was professional, and easy to work with. The quality of the door is unlike anything you can buy in a Big box store. I highly Recommend using them. You won't be sorry.

Nick’s is a terrific company

Nick’s is a terrific company. They go above and beyond expectations! Their catalog is very accurate, and everyone was a joy to work with for our custom door. And the door itself is an exceptional piece of art. We highly recommend Nicks.

Beautiful speak easy door installation

I recently ordered a door from Nick building supply. I had very little Room to work with and sent them specific specifications on what I needed to fit in my rough opening. Not only did the door fit perfectly but the excellent craftsmanship was evident to me when I opened the crate.
I have been doing carpentry for 35 years and this door is absolutely the most beautiful and well built product I have ever used. I recommend this company to anyone that is in need of a new front door.

BUYER BEWARE

BUYER BEWARE. Worst experience. Door purchased in August 2019. They were 6 weeks late on their delivery and I had to reach out to them repeatedly for updates. By the time they called to deliver the door, snow was on the ground and we couldn’t install the door. [We had to patch the areas we cut out inside our house for the door, which went in storage in their warehouse... for months.] Then, with little warning we had to take delivery due to the virus, and we even had to take the 400 pound door off the truck ourselves!! They get a ZERO for customer service, all the way around. They took our $5,000 REAL quick, but they were in no hurry to deliver. When installing, we found out they did not even drill the holes for the flush bolt. If I were the owner(s) of this incredible product, I would fire everyone in sales and customer service and get some professionals in there who have some class and maturity. These people are NOT representing your product or your company well!

Best buying experience ever

Last year we built a custom home. As a Realtor, I have seen many doors. The one door that always made me smile when I passed it was a door with the Chateau diamond cut glass in it. I looked high and low for a door with similar glass. Every single door was a 'custom' door with 'custom glass' and for just the door with 3/4 glass, wood to be painted, locally was going to cost $10,000 plus!!!! I found Nick's Doors and got a stained mahogany 3/4 door with double sidelights for under $4,000 shipped. The door is beautiful. I just recommended someone to Nick's that is going to build next door to us. I hope he finds a great door as well. The entire experience, including shipping, was A++. I would buy again and recommend frequently. The door is just beautifully finished, quality features, and adds huge value to our home. Get all the upgrades. It's worth it.
