Night Zookeeper
Fantastically Fun Learning
Night Zookeeper is a London-based children’s brand comprising of an online learning program, a book series and a TV mini-series. All of our products centre around the magical world of the “Night Zoo”. Our aim is to make learning fantastically fun for children aged 6 to 12 years old, and unlock their creativity in the process. Our reading and writing program has been used by over 1 million children worldwide.
Night Zookeeper was founded in 2012 by Joshua Davidson and Paul Hutson. Our e-learning product was originally launched in November 2012 as a creative drawing iOS app for kids, which went on to be recognised as one of the 50 best apps of 2013 by The Observer and The Guardian.
In 2014, we revamped the app into a web version which included more extensive writing elements, a dashboard for monitoring progress and personalised feedback from tutors. Over 1 billion words have been written by children on the site. Night Zookeeper is also used in schools by teachers worldwide in an effort to harness the power of digital learning in the classroom.
Throughout the pandemic, Night Zookeeper was able to act as a useful resource for families around the world to keep their children learning as schools were forced to close and remote learning took hold.
As of 2024, our program is used by thousands of children in several countries as a way to improve their reading and writing skills in a fantastically fun way, whether as part of a homeschool, in the classroom, as a supplementary resource, or simply a productive form of screen-time.

SUGGESTION TO COMPANY: please add a game to teach the kids to TOUCH TYPE so they can write text more effectively and get more out of the app

I got night zookeeper to help with our LA homeschool journey. My kids weren’t enjoying the lessons we were doing so I decided to give this a try. They absolutely love night zookeeper! They enjoy writing, making characters, and playing games. They are even enjoying the spelling. We also added my autistic 5 year old onto our plan. He loves to sit and learn on this website. It’s been an amazing turn around for our LA class. Thank you so much for this amazing website and helping my kids grow their imagination even more.

Very interactive and easy to use. My daughter loves being able to create her own animal and be creative with describing it. I like the immediate feedback kids get when writing. It is very effective in teaching writing skills.

First of all, use a temporary card when setting up your subscription as they don’t honour account cancellations. Additionally the system isn’t good for actually learning as kids just play and draw. No real structure… I personally wouldn’t recommend it. Even though I had paid for the year, I switched my kids over to khan academy and they’ve actually learned more..

Night zookeeper is a great program for children of all ages. I got this program for my daughter, niece and nephew and they love the engaging activities and games this program provides. Since the games are so engaging they don’t even realize how much they are learning. This program teaches kids proper writing and grammar skills in a very exciting way. I definitely recommend this program to everyone.

Night Zookeeper has been great for my 11 year old son! He has never enjoyed language arts and really does not like writing. We homeschool and have had a hard time finding programs that he enjoys. Having ADHD and Autism, I have a hard time with that. Since starting Night Zookeeper, he jumps right on it every day when we start school, no questions asked and I usually have to make him stop to move onto other subjects. He still is getting the hang of writing but he does not complain about it and actually likes all of the games and interactive features. Great program for ELAR and keeps his interest. Love it!

My son's used the Night Zookeper platform in an on and off manner as part of his part-time homeschooling routine for a number of months now. It certainly assisted in rebuilding his will to undertake writing tasks, and we're grateful for that as that was our main goal. As with many resources available online, I do recommend keeping a watchful eye and providing some personal guidance in exploring all that's available on the platform, as it seems easy for the child to "slip" entirely into the game playing mode.

I want to make it so my son actually have to try on the writing prompts instead of typing gibberish

The children love the interactive experience. The program helps promote critical thinking and creativity through interactive games, character building and creative writing. This has helped them feel more confident in their own writing skills. They went from dreading to write to “can’t wait to log on”. This has been a big bonus in our homeschooling program.
