The app is really easy to access and navigate, and it provides a lot of materials for learners! It helped me pass N4 in just 2 months of studying Japanese!

Nihondex is the most well thought out, user friendly, and affordable place to learn Japanese, and I will never be returning to the dead end apps that just keep you hooked on meaningless, game-like content that doesn’t actually teach you anything useful like Duolingo. I came from hardly understanding hiragana and katakana, to actually being able to read them with little to no hesitation in less than a week. Any bugs that come to be are handled usually before I knew they were there, and there is constant updates to better the platform with the recommendations of users in mind! The charts showing progress make it easy to see how far you progress, and how far you have left until you finished the JLPT level requirements. I’m a huge fan of the thoroughness of explanation put into everything, and also the context, such as Japanese history that brought everything together, which makes everything make more sense. The discord community is so friendly, uplifting, and supportive. Questions are discussed and answered with great enthusiasm and clarity. Memberships are worth every penny I my opinion.

There is a lot of different ways to learn and practice the language apart from only learning vocabulary and grammar. The app is also continuously making updates, adding content and improving the quality. It also has a community where the developer listens to the users.

Many times when I see little reviews I cannot help but think they may be paid people (sometimes the case). But this time its not the case.

I was genuinely spending weeks researching and looking for apps to learn Japanese and FINALLY I stumbled upon Nihondex from a random Instagram reel. Most... sorry ALL Japanese apps you must pay a high subscription fee just to access basic things. Nihondex's free tier basically allows you as much as a free tier can give you. There is also a lifetime tier which NO other Japanese learning app has. I loved Nihondex so much that did get the lifetime. I could have kept with free tier but the fact that the developer directly talks and interacts to his community I WANTED to give him money. (Plus the paid version does get you some better and more fun things)

Nihondex uses SRS system like Anki which is "spaced repetition system" and shows the vocab or grammar that you need help on the most first before words you may already know.

There is an Island you can customize with coins you get from reviewing and there is a streak you can build by learning everyday and get more coins.

Last but not least (maybe the best). The dev listens to community and over half of the website was built with the opinions of the developer's customers and he has frequent updates. Any random bug you may find can get reported and fixed within days.

The best app ever!
I started using Nihondex a few months ago, and it is by far the best language-learning app I have ever used. Learning Japanese with it is so fun and enjoyable. I’ve never enjoyed using a language app this much before, and my Japanese has improved so much since I started.

One of the best things about Nihondex is that the developer really listens to the users. You can contact him directly, share ideas or suggest things that could be added or improved, and he actually takes the time to listen.. The app keeps getting better and better thanks to the feedback from the people using it, which I think is amazing.

There is also a real community around the app. The Discord is a great place to talk with other people who are also learning Japanese and connect with people who have the same goals and interests as you. It makes learning Japanese feel much more social and motivating.

I really can’t recommend Nihondex enough. It has helped me improve my Japanese a lot while actually enjoying the learning process!

Poopolingo has no game on nihondex, I finally feel like I made progres and can now understand writing and hold simple conversations.

I've been learning Japanese for about 2 years and before, I admit that I really did struggle in staying consistent because not knowing what to focus on first (grammar, vocabulary, conjugation, etc..) so when I discovered Nihondex and gave it a try, it definitely helped me out with my japanese study routine and I like that they are categorized per learning (depending on what you want to focus on), and the shadow immersion is my favorite!! 🤍Nihondex helped me improve and broaden my knowledge in learning japanese. Nihondex is legit. It’s way more chill and actually useful than duolingo. no dumb streak pressure, just solid lessons and spaced repetition that stick. Feels like it was made by someone who actually gets how to learn japanese, not just gamify it.

Great site for learning Japanese, everything is intuitive and practical. A huge plus is also the support: the dev is super responsive and accessible. Whenever you ask a question or share feedback, especially on Discord, he takes the time to reply and make improvements in real time. It's rare to see a project maintained this closely with such a genuine community.

I absolutely love Nihondex! It has helped me step up my Japanese level much faster than other language-learning apps I’ve tried. The interface is clean, intuitive, and makes studying genuinely enjoyable.

I’ve tried many different apps to start my Japanese-learning journey, but every time, I felt like something was missing. Whether it was the content, the quality, or simply how the learning experience was structured, I always ended up feeling that if I continued relying on that app, I wouldn’t get very far.
A lot of apps tend to focus heavily on one specific aspect of Japanese, whether it’s grammar, vocabulary, kanji, etc., while neglecting the others. Finding Nihondex completely changed that for me.
Learning Japanese has genuinely become fun. I actually look forward to opening the website/app every day and learning something new.
One of the first things that impressed me was how well the Hiragana and Katakana lessons are designed. I was able to learn both in less than two weeks. You don’t just get shown the characters,you’re taught how to write them correctly, and the mnemonics are genuinely useful and made memorizing them much easier.
Beyond kana, the vocabulary, grammar, and kanji sections are extremely practical and well structured. I’ve never really felt lost while learning something through Nihondex. Everything is organized in a way that makes it easy to understand what you’re learning, and the SRS (Spaced Repetition System) makes reviewing and drilling what you’ve already learned incredibly easy. It helps you keep up with your reviews and reinforce things at the right time, so you don’t feel like you’re constantly forgetting what you studied before.
Another thing I really appreciate is the community. The Discord server is very active, and you can interact with other learners as well as the people behind Nihondex. What’s especially nice is that they actually listen to feedback. Ideas and suggestions from the community often end up being considered and even implemented into the platform, which makes you feel like you’re genuinely part of its development.
The interface is also really clean and easy to navigate. You never feel overwhelmed by the amount of content available. I especially enjoy being able to track my study hours, see my daily activity, maintain a streak, and even have a little island that I can decorate with items bought using coins earned from studying. It sounds like a small thing, but it makes studying feel much more like a game and gives you another reason to stay consistent.
There’s also a leaderboard where you can compare your progress with other learners, which can definitely give you something extra to grind for if you’re competitive.
Overall, I’d say Nihondex is one of the most complete Japanese-learning platforms I’ve come across, and it’s still constantly growing and improving. There’s already a huge amount of content to practice, including kana, grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening through videos, and much more.
If you’re someone who wants to genuinely learn Japanese while still having fun doing it, I honestly can’t recommend Nihondex enough. I’ve tried quite a few other apps, and so far, I haven’t found one that combines everything as well as Nihondex does.
And honestly, when it comes to the premium plans, $7.99 a month for everything you get feels like an absolute steal. You’re getting an all-in-one platform that makes studying Japanese enjoyable, structured, and easy to stay consistent with.
If you’re serious about learning Japanese but don’t want studying to feel like a chore, give Nihondex a try. I highly recommend it.
