Appalling customer service
I purchased The.Bowl from Nikki.Amsterdam, a portable Bluetooth speaker and light intended to be controlled through the company’s mobile app. Despite repeated attempts, the app-controlled functions would not work properly. The product was never used and remained in its original condition; it was only opened, charged and tested.
What followed was one of the worst customer-service experiences I have encountered. It took 28 emails to deal with what should have been a simple product complaint.
Instead of providing practical assistance to resolve the problem or accepting a reasonable return, Nikki.Amsterdam sent increasingly aggressive, legalistic and intimidating emails, using headings such as “TECHNICAL DIAGNOSTIC” and “FINAL NOTICE.” Their tone was hostile and threatening rather than professional or customer-focused.
They repeatedly dismissed my concerns, attempted to dictate an unnecessarily complicated technical process and ultimately declared the matter closed. In my experience, their approach showed a shocking lack of understanding, or regard, for the consumer protections customers are entitled to expect when purchasing products in the European Union.
After wasting an enormous amount of time trying to resolve the matter directly, I had no alternative but to submit a formal claim through my card provider.
Thankfully, my card included purchase protection. The evidence was reviewed, my claim was successful, and I recovered my money. A very big thank you to my card company for protecting me when the retailer failed to resolve the matter fairly.
I would never purchase from, recommend or promote Nikki.Amsterdam again.
My advice to potential customers is to pay only by credit card or another method offering strong buyer protection. Make absolutely sure you have a way to reverse the transaction and recover your money should you be unable to obtain a fair resolution directly.
