DO NOT USE AUTO RENEWAL!!!!
1st 2 years were £135 and on auto renewal shot up to £201 for 12 months.
Chat. Offered no recourse.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I was nervous about Nord having a large data breach in the past. However, this is the VPN used by the high-end private security company that my son-in-law works for. He does significant international travel, so a VPN is very important.
I was originally attracted by a very enticing initial cost. I was very surprised to be offered a very reasonable renewal rate. If that changes, I plan to switch to Proton. Otherwise, I'll stay with Nord.
Again NordVPN has failed to bill via auto renewal and no notification there was an issue. My account shows as active, but somehow they say it is expired and this also cleared the dedicated IP addresses. Support is clueless not helping at all. This will required resetting countless settings to whitelist a new dedicated IPs. This happens every renewal. If they can't manage billing, are the security services actually reliable????
I was able to manually make a payment, but the fact that this was not auto renewed when that was setup, showed as an active subscription but they claimed it was expired, then they claimed I actively cancelled the subscription over 2 weeks ago (nothing was cancelled). Which story are they trying to sell me? The fact that I had no notice of any of this and that support was absolutely no help is inexcusable.
Update: The chat transcript doesn't have a ticket ID and I wasn't provided with one otherwise. If that is something you need, you need to make it available or find my ticket another way. I also fully expect NordVPN to do nothing like they have in the past years and this will happen again in two years when this renews again.

I purchased NordVPN’s one-month plan, which is significantly more expensive per month than their long-term plans, specifically because I did not want to commit to an ongoing subscription.
I later discovered that even the one-month plan automatically renews every month by default, and I was charged again in October, November, and December before noticing.
While this is technically stated in the terms and conditions, it was not clearly disclosed at checkout, and I did not knowingly consent to recurring charges. When I contacted support, they refused any refund, citing the fine print.
Paying a higher price for a short-term plan should reasonably indicate a one-time intent, yet the billing design suggests otherwise.
If you only want one month, you must manually cancel immediately, or you will continue to be charged. I’m sharing this so others don’t make the same mistake.

Ordered VPN to use abroad.
It just didn't work on Windows 8, so it was useless.
After one month they charged for renewal which I never agreed on.
In the end, I paid for 2 months for nothing.

BUYERS BEWARE! I just renewed my Nord subscription on 12/24/2025 and they hit my checking account twice for the same renewal fee. When I contacted them about their actions I received directives that were cumbersome. They wanted me to screenshot my bank account showing the double dip for the fee and email it to them. This seems ridiculous when they can just look at their own billing department to see this error. It's ridiculous that I have to jump through these hoops when NordVPN made the mistake. Definitely won't be renewing this service. Update..today is 12/28/25 and NordVpn did in fact take a second payment from my bank account after receiving my complaint. This is a shady business practice and I will never renew my subscription.

We have had NordVPN for 2 years now. With a lot of challenging issues like not being transparent so not working on streaming services, slow performance, crashing startups, whitelisting domains which then still was unable to be accessed. As an IT pro my experience with NordVPN support has been very poor. They just don't listen. You will get a load of copy paste standard text, which does not solve your many issues. The final experience was the renewal fase, where the app told us (upon login) that our bank card could not be processed (note: exp. of our plan is 2nd of January - the take your money the 19th of December!). But even with that message, leaving us with the impression that we had time to find the right way forward, they all of a sudden charged the card anyway?! We might have wanted to continue using NordVPN maybe even with a 2-year package, but no help at all from support. The AI is trained well telling us it was human, simple gave us a load of copy-pasted text and links from the terms and conditions, which we already knew and have accepted. But that isn't the issue; the issue was, either cancallation or 2 years. The support didn't want to listen at all. And didn't read more that approximately 25 characters of the chat before referring to the terms and conditions again.
We are done with NordVPN after this unwanted 1-year period that they have charged us. I still don't know which VPN we will use in the future, but this company we can't recommend system wise nor support wise.
Update: TicketID?? I have the transcript of the chat. There's no ID nor ticket no. which just confirms my experience...

Got no notification of renewal of subscription it just appeared in PayPal account. Tried to cancel but PayPal would not allow. Won't get caught again. And will not be resubscribing. Dodgy to say the least

I paid the one month option to give a try and did not work for what I needed it.
I did not know it was a forced auto-renewal so I got charged a second month with zero use to me. I went on manage my account and set it to cancel auto renewal (did not get a confirmation). Now I was charged a 3rd month for a product I don't want nor have used. After complaining to the chat they asked me if I got the cancelation confirmation. This time I went on to cancel again and I got a cancelation confirmation. So my advise is take pictures of everything when you try cancelling and if you just want to try it be aware of the forced auto-renewal.

Norvpn service has been good and reliable for the last two years of my subscription. However, when my subscription was up for renewal, my credit card was automatically charged for an amount that I did not consent to. I did not even know nor was forwarned that my credit card will be charged over $150 for a 1 yr subscription. The original subscription cost was a lot lower and if you are going to renew my subscription, it should be at the initial or original price that I paid for. I am hoping for a better price, especially with all the holiday promotions that I have been receiving in my emails.
A deceptive, predatory company! While their product works, their ethics are abysmal. A Lithuanian company, pretending to be German, headquarted in Panama. The issue is that they cheat their customers with their auto-renewal scam. Most of the 1 star reviews mention that as the problem. They steal from one person at a time... when they do it thousands of times, it becomes real money for them.

You know full well what I am talking about. Yes, I purchased your product and knew full well that there was an automatic renewal. Yes, I forgot to update the account info. Yes, your computers charged me, and emailed me to let me know. I called within minutes of receiving the email and requested a refund. Your representatives refused. I appealed. You still refused. I called my credit card company and told them I had a dispute with NORDVPN and to stop payment. Basically, what you are doing is using an automated system to bilk your customers into paying for an extra month if they inadvertently fail to update their account -- moreover, you refuse a refund when contacted only minutes after sending out the email notifying your customers of the charge. In my book, you are basically unethical and predatory, so spare me the faux concern.

When the auto renewal occurs the price increases drastically!

Scam! Do not purchase as it's difficult to terminate. I turned off auto renewal only to be billed again the following month. I turned it off again, logged off and then logged back on only to find it had been turned back on. Very clever! Asked for a refund and was laughed off

Firstly, our MasterCard company informs us that you double-charged our account when we renewed our subscription for renewal of services. Then you charged us for PST when there is no PST in the Province of Alberta, Canada where we reside.. Please check into this situation and correct these issues.. Thank you.. Looking forward to your prompt attention and reply..

Daylight robbery , they set you for auto-renewal and refund policy only applies for first month. I tried it 6 months ago, then I paid for one month and it auto-renewed, I cancelled it, havent used it and they say they won't refund the money as its only allowed in the first month!? In the UK by law they have to refund any services you have not used. They operate in Lithuania and Ukraine!? They should not be allowed to operate in the UK!

Lots of options for location and easy to navigate.
Love the service; however, we can't remember our password. Could you send a link to reset, please? We should be nearing renewal time. Please let me know about the payment.
Cheers
Dan

I needed clarification regarding a NordVPN subscription renewal made online. No problem if I wanted to withdraw, as I intended to do, but a very courteous and helpful operator gave me some clarifications in chat and I changed my mind. Very quick to respond.

DON'T FALL FOR THE TRIAL!! The T&Cs have an automatic renewal attached to it and there's absolutely no way to get a refund. I was unfortunately the victim of the practice. I was thinking of using them occasionally as needed, but no chance I will now.
I usually don't use reviews to vent but I was so taken aback by such an appealing method that I needed to share this bad trick of theirs.

⭐ 1 Star (Would Give –3 Stars If I Could) — Slow Speeds, Pushy Upselling, and a Refund Process That Feels Like a Trap
If I could give negative three stars, I would. I bought the NordVPN Black Friday deal (2 years + 3 months extra), and within minutes I knew I’d made a mistake. My internet speed absolutely collapsed — pages that normally load instantly slowed to a crawl. Completely unusable.
The interface isn’t much better. It pops up vague “breach-compliant” alerts without telling you what they actually refer to. Completely pointless. And even inside the app they push upsells at you. Not exactly inspiring confidence.
I immediately turned off auto-renewal (which I recommend to everyone, because they’ll happily charge you without warning), and then went straight for the refund. Their 30-day refund guarantee sounds straightforward, but getting it honoured is another story.
After fighting through their chatbot and finally getting a human, she tried to upsell me again while I was asking for a refund. She started asking what OS I use, what apps, etc. I refused — I just wanted my money back. Only after shutting down the upselling twice did she actually process it.
And here’s the kicker: they refuse to send a simple confirmation email saying your refund was approved. They’ll send one instantly when taking your money, but not when giving it back. All they could offer was a chat transcript — which didn’t even arrive until I reopened support and pushed again.
Then they tell me it’ll take 5–10 business days to return the money. They take your cash in seconds but need up to 10 days to return it? Convenient.
I also checked their policy: you MUST request a refund through their official site — if you bought through Amazon, the App Store, etc., they won’t help you. Be very careful about that.
And I can see on Trustpilot I’m far from alone. Tons of people saying they’re fighting to get refunds within the 30-day window and NordVPN is dragging it out. Some are outright calling it a scam because they still haven’t received their money. It’s awful behaviour for a company that advertises a “no-questions-asked” refund.
I made my purchase on 1 December 2025, so I should see my refund by 12 December. If not, I’ll update this — because at that point this goes from bad customer service to something worse.
Honestly, the whole experience was a waste of time and patience. Slow speeds, upselling everywhere, vague alerts, and a refund process that feels intentionally obstructive.
