Optima Tax Relief talks a good talk to get their $600 retainer. After telling us that it would be somewhere in the range of $3-6,000 to settle our case, they came back with a cost of more than $11,000. We said, "No thanks" and did not move forward with their services. After reading these other reviews, I think we made the right decision. This company is a SCAM!!

I opted online for assistance in resolving a matter involving a debt to the IRS of 10,000 dollars. I received a call from a gentleman immediately after. He asked how he could help me and as I began asking questions he began interrupting me constantly. I began asking exactly what or how they disputed the owed debt. He asked if I had filed this rear already. I said I did. He asked me how much I was getting, and I told him my return was 8000 dollars I did not feel I owed the irs. He said and I quote" oh I'm not taking on your case fir 2 or 3000 $ , no one will" I began to ask another question and he stated again in a sarcastic tone" I don't have time for hypothetical. What else do you need?" I disconnected the call due to the unprofessional attitude of the representative from Optima Tax relief. Horrible customer service.

In my opinion this company is a scam and a rip-off. I contacted them 2023 after hearing their radio ads about saving clients thousands on their taxes. The enrollment agent (i.e. salesperson) was extremely helpful. After making an initial down payment and going an installment plan, I suspended the program a few months later because of a divorce. I resumed 2024. None of my prior payments counted. I started all over. My total cost was just under $5,000.00 for them to file my back taxes and negotiate on my behalf. No one would discuss my case until it was paid in full. In the meantime, I was accruing interest and penalties on the back taxes. I could not get anyone to discuss my case until it was paid in full. I maxed out a credit card paying them monthly installments. If I was late on payment, they cut off portal access. I paid it off last fall In February 2026 I got a resolution. The filed my four-years back taxes plus 2024. They took the standard deduction each year, something I could have done on my own. Furthermore, there were no tax reductions or forgiveness from the IRS. The representative told me this as casually as ordering lunch. When I complained, she referred to the small print in the contract and said not everyone gets a reduction. The settlement they agree to with the IRS is $50.00 per month more than I was paying before contacting Optima No Tax relief. Avoid the company. You will be better off negotiating yourself and making your repayment agreement.

I joined Optima in November 2024. It is now February 2026 and they still have not resolved my taxes. First they had all my documentation to file my 2024 taxes but did not file my return until October 2025. They did not give me a good reason why my tax return were delayed. They kept asking for information that I had already submitted weeks before in their portal. Now it is almost time to file my 2025 tax returns and my taxes are still not resolved. Now finally they called me to advise of my options but there was only one option, not multiple which is what the word "option" means. Today, 2/28/2026 I received a letter from the IRS which is a "Final Balance Due Reminder - Notice of Intent to Seize (Levy) Your Property or Rights to Property". I was told and it is on your commercials that once I sign up with Optima these letters would stop. They have not stopped. I sent previous letters to Optima a couple of months ago and was told they would take care of it.
Is is supposed to take this long to settle my tax issues?
I would never ever advise anyone to use Optima. Optima probably won't post this review.
Optima contacted me today. We have come to an agreement.

I hired Optima Tax Relief in September 2024 to help me with a tax settlement and payment plan. I had already filed my taxes myself and mainly needed help negotiating with the IRS and hopefully getting penalties and late fees reduced.
During onboarding, the representative I worked with said they were confident they could at least help get penalties removed and improve my situation. Based on that, I moved forward and ultimately paid them around $12,000 in fees.
Unfortunately, my experience after signing up was very frustrating. Communication was inconsistent, updates were slow, and I often felt like I had to chase them for information. Over the course of more than a year and a half, my situation did not improve — in fact, it felt like it got worse as penalties and interest continued to add up.
In the end, the only outcome was an installment agreement with the IRS for $1,334 per month, along with tax liens. This was a plan I likely could have arranged directly with the IRS myself, and it was far more than I can realistically afford. After I agreed to the terms so they could move forward, I was then told there was nothing else they could do for me.
What makes this especially disappointing is that I paid a significant amount of money expecting professional advocacy and relief, but I did not receive the results that were originally suggested. My account was then closed, and I no longer have easy access to records showing what I paid or the work completed.
I strongly encourage anyone considering a tax resolution service to ask very detailed questions about what outcomes are actually realistic and what you are paying for. In my case, I wish I had tried working directly with the IRS first before spending thousands of dollars.
