I recently upgraded my Optimum internet service expecting an improvement, but ever since the upgrade, my connection has been completely unreliable. My streaming constantly freezes up, and basic daily use has become an exercise in frustration.
I’ve called customer support multiple times. They sent out two technicians, neither of whom were able to diagnose or fix the underlying issue. When I called back to schedule another follow-up visit, Optimum repeatedly delayed or straight-up canceled my appointments with no warning.
I am completely exhausted by the endless cycle of calling in, waiting on hold, and getting nowhere. They have utterly failed to resolve my issue, and trying to get straight answers or cancel service is like pulling teeth. If you are considering an upgrade or new service with Optimum, save yourself the headache and look elsewhere.

I moved on 09/03/26 and called optimum to disconnect my internet service. They refused to disconnect the service until the end of October's billing cycle, forcing me to pay for services that won't be used by me. The bill was $64 monthly and they stacked additional charges in those 2 months. The bill is $200 when last checked on 11/01/26. The internet dropped often or outages occurred. The internet service and customer service is poor. I do not recommend this company and they should be sued. Stay away from optimum if you value great health and money you work hard for.

Honestly the internet is good But thats only if it works reliably. Unfortunately the only thing reliably about Optimum internet is the fact it shuts off for days at a time. Never in my life have I had internet constantly shut off for day almost every month. They give you 2or3$ a day you go without internet But you have to call them verify the days without the internet and wait 30 to 1 hour for them to check and then wait for the next bill to come out and hope they put your discount on. This company is corrupt and a robbery in plain sight. I can't believe I ever switch to them. These crooks just need to fo out of business.

If I can rate it -0 I would!! Every time my bill comes around theres some new charge and some magical discount added when I was expecting one set price every month.. I literally just spoke to customer service for over a hour a couple weeks ago where I had to threaten a lawsuit because what the agent was doing to get me to not cancel was illegal.. only for me to check my bill today and have an extra $45 charge on my account and my new bill isn't supposed to be due til the 1st of November.. tell me where's that $10 a month discount now Optimum?? My bill is supposed to be $35 a month according to that call I recorded, and not the $25 I agreed to in September with another agent.. but some how my bill is apparently $45 for November and my service hasn't been interrupted, no late fee nothing new added.. So please tell me whats the issue this time huh??? I need to know!

Service levels are incredibly poor. I just waited three hours to speak for someone - nothing. Yesterday, I spend an hour on the chat function. It's like they don't want to speak to you. Meanwhile, the monthly bill went up 400% and no one can explain why to me. Terrible customer service.

It's not the people in our d store, or the installers, or the actual wifi service. It's the dealing with the people at the end of the phone dealing with the billing. Made the first year just fine. Then the bill went up 35.00 a month with no warning or info. Then when I disconnect and return equipment 10 days before next billing and bill anyway!

If i could give them less than a star, i would. The worst service, and customer “support” of any company I’ve ever dealt with personally or for my small business. Which is saying something. Hidden charges that hit bills, “upgrades” that were never approved and when you call you waste 30’ of your life to get nowhere. I called and they finally said they agreed and would reverse a charge, only to charge it again the next month. When I had my card charge it back, they charged again and when I called again their response was that “the system always recharges a chargeback” even after I said I’d called and disputed it previously. Literally run away from this company. On top of having awful service and dropping calls and not getting texts (when I changed back to another provider I immediately had 17 texts from people and threads come through after only two weeks with this service. Stay away

I have just got back from having my chemo port put in as i just found out i have lung cancer and without any notice my internet was shutoff because my bank did not pay my ach payment with my overdraft extension. Customer service says all I can do to get it back on is to pay the bill even though I am hearing impaired and can only communicate with my doctors through email and text both of which need internet service. So thanks optimum for taking away my only source without even a few days notice.

Misleading offer, an extra mobile line, and days wasted resolving billing issues
I have been an Optimum Internet customer for four years. When my monthly bill increased to $80, I contacted an agent through text chat to ask whether any promotional offers were available.
The agent offered me Internet for $25 per month if I added one mobile line. I specifically confirmed: $25 for Internet and $30 for one mobile line. The agent said yes. This conversation was in writing, and I have saved the messages.
Transferring my phone number from my previous provider was a long and frustrating process. I paid a $25 activation fee, but an agent then attempted to activate the wrong number. I was required to pay another $25 activation fee for the correct number.
About four days later, I received a mobile bill for $68 instead of the $30 I had been quoted. When I investigated, I discovered that there were TWO mobile lines on my account. I had agreed to one line. The additional line was added without my knowledge or consent, and no one explained that the offer involved two lines.
After spending three to four days dealing with transfers, billing problems, and multiple agents, I decided to cancel both mobile lines. My first experience with Optimum Mobile had been extremely disappointing.
The last representative I spoke with was helpful and assisted with the cancellation. However, I was still required to pay another $25, which I was told was due because the billing cycle had already started. I was also told that the $50 I had paid in activation fees would be applied as an account credit. That credit has been promised, but I have not yet confirmed that it has been applied.
What was supposed to help me save money ended up costing me extra money, hours of my time, and several days of frustration. As a longtime Internet customer, I expected clear pricing and accurate information.
My advice to anyone considering Optimum Mobile: save every chat, ask exactly how many lines will be opened, and get the full monthly cost, activation fees, and promotional conditions confirmed in writing. I did ask for confirmation, and I still ended up with an extra line and unexpected charges.
Customers should not have to spend days correcting mistakes made during enrollment.

I'm an 80 y.o. customer of Optimum(through it's various prev. owners) since 1972. I never needed or wanted a cell phone and only finally accepted an offer for cell svc. as a means to lower my monthly tv/internet/landline bill which seems to escalate every few mos..The "bundle" which had been previously aggressively promoted was to have lowered my monthly bill WITHOUT any changes to my present svc..I asked the Otimum rep.3x's for assurance there would be no changes to my present svc.& was ASSURED there would not be. I accepted only to discover the next day that my cable lineup had been reduced to basic(fr basic plus/Paramount Showtime/high speed interet) and my internet speed had been reduced one tier resulting in frequent buffering. After intense wrangling,I only got basic plus restored. In the interim, the cell ph. arrived. Not being cell ph. savvy,I went to my local Optimum off. for activation. The rep.was not patient in instructing me in use of the device& basically treated me like a daft old man even though I am a college degreed Mensan.I walked out of the Optimum off.& attempted to make a call, only to receive messages on the ph. that additional steps were needed to complete the activation.Frustrated,I ret'd. the ph. to Optimum via Fed Ex that same day(I was within the advertised return window).I later received an e-mail stating the ph' was rec'd.& that my acct. had been credited. I assumed(as would 99.9% of the population) that my rel. with Optimum Mobile was severed.Shortly afterwards,I rec'd. bills for restocking and activation. I pd. both even though the ph. was NOT properly activated by Optimum staff (not a single call was made or rec'd. with the unit) and was totally unusable. Once again,I assumed I was finished with this vexing ordeal, but I started receiving svc. bills. I called Optimum Mobile to inquire abt. these charges & was told returning the phone did not disconnect the svc.& that that was a separate process.I should have been advised of this policy when I was advised the ph. had been rec'd. and that my acct. had been credited.I reiterate that NO svc. was ever provided as the ph. was not properly activated by Optimum staff. I'm presently refusing to pay these fees & have contacted my local BBB & Council on Aging as I expect to be turned over to collections and intend to loudly vocalize my opinion of Optimum's hugely aggressive and misleading sales policies. I would resort to sending smoke signals before considering this svc. provider!!

Was late one day one day on my payment because I was moving apts they more than trippled the price of the bill and shut off services. I paid the bill and its been 3 days that they havent turned my wifi back on now they are saying it will be another week before they turn it back on. Why the hell should i keep them as my service when I can get cheaper new service the same day i ask for it. If I can rate 0 stars I would

I have been an Optimum customer for a long time, as they service Hoboken, NJ. Please keep in mind, we have limited choices in providers, the only other option is Verizon. My challenges began on October 15, 2026. Upon receiving my September 2026 bill, I noticed an increase of $17.00, resulting in a $310.13 monthly bill for my cable and internet.
I am retired, a senior citizen, on a fixed income, I contacted Optimum Customer Service around 3:45pm on October 15th. to discuss options to lower my monthly bill. 6 hours and 6-7 customer service representatives later I was finally able to reduce my monthly bill and have someone actually listen to me and assist me in identifying an acceptable solution that would meet my needs as a retired long term good customer, that consistently pays her bill early.
The entire process made me feel like I was on an endless hamster wheel and there was no way to stop the wheel and get off!! The initial customer service reps weren't listening to me they were more focused on their sales pitches. I repeated myself endlessly it was extremely frustrating.
When I was connected to Ava, {CS#3} She offered me a deal that would lower my monthly bill to $216.00. I was thrilled, then she mentioned the option of switching to Optimum Mobile from Verizon. I responded No I was absolutely not interested. I explained the Hoboken, over the years has had many weather related storms, i.e. SuperStorm Sandy, numerous Nor'Easters and many people lost cell service. During these storms I retained cell service, hence I wished to remain a Verizon customer!
Ava said she understood, I thought we were good.... later that day, I started receiving e-mails about my new Optimum Mobile number and that I needed to activate my account???
I spoke to 2 more customer service reps to try and get this resolved, I told them that the phone conversations were recorded they could listen to the recordings and hear me state that I didn't want Mobile phone service from Optimum. I continued to receive emails while I was on the phone with Optimum stating that they had activated my Mobile account and that I would be charged an activation fee of $25.61.
I was beside myself and very frustrated, I NEVER AUTHROIZED THIS.
I also had one rep ask for a mobile access code, I responded that I never received one. He then commented that I needed to physically go to the store located at 5715 Berginline Ave in West New York NJ and show my ID to the sales person to prove who I was so they could terminate the mobile phone service. I replied that I didn't have a car and there needed to be a more efficient way to address this matter.
I then was transferred to Kevaun, she was helpful, by now I was in tears, she generated an access code for me so that the phone service could be terminated. She then transferred me to Omar.
OMAR was WONDERFUL. He was patient with me as I continued to cry and beg him to cancel the Mobile service that I never approved. I stated repeatedly that I never agreed to this, I just wanted to lower my bill. Omar listened and seemed to be a caring and compassionate person. He was the best!!! I am so thankful and grateful to him for all of his assistance. He was able to cancel the Mobile service and refund the activation fee. I reminded him to listen to the phone recordings which would document that I verbally communicated that I did not want the mobile service.
I also want to praise Nour, a Customer Service Rep that works with and knows Omar. He was professional, polite and patient too. Together they worked as a great team to assist me.
After 6 hours, 9:45PM, the Mobile phone service was cancelled and my account was credited the activation fee.
It shouldn't have taken 6 hours to terminate mobile service and people should be reduced to tears to accomplish this. Shame on you Optimum!
Please give Omar and Nour a good performance review and raise, they were wonderful. You are welcome to contact me to discuss in further details. Sincerely, Mary Stafford

Having been a long-term customer for many years - next to Comcast - Optimum is by far the worst. I found a local provider who would meet my needs at a better speed and monthly cost. When I tried to cancel my service - I was passed along from one rep to three more - each with a higher lever of UPSELL techniques. I finally said - "JUST CANCEL THE ACCOUNT" - and I was met with an abrupt "fine". The cancellation process took longer than the install of my new and BETTER service.
The next three days - I was bombarded by not only emails - but MULTIPLE PHONE CALLS per day - to me - and my daughter who is not even the account holder but secondary on the account.
Their behaviour and protocols reek of desperation. Their customer service is abominable and unprofessional. They may have been the "only show in town" for many years - but they've lost their title.
Onward to BETTER SERVICE AND PRICING!

Constant outages in this entire area all throughout every week, every month, and considering I work from home (On the company's schedule. Not my own) Optimum has been a huge disappointment and not reliable at all. I've held out for nearly 8 years, I'm finally done. I switched to another internet provider and already my service is a thousand times better.
My issue with Optimum right now is the fact that it shouldn't take almost an hour on the phone with their customer service department just to cancel my internet service. It's absolutely ridiculous the amount of time wasted being transferred from one person to the next and each one trying to convince me to keep Optimum. No one has time for this and it's the exact reason so many people are canceling their services. They even had the nerve to try to convince me they could bring my monthly bill down and give me guaranteed service with no outages. I was like "Why is this something that you couldn't just offer me upfront? Why wait until I have major complaints and I tell you that I'm canceling my service?" I will never use this service ever again. The amount of hassles alone are enough to keep me away. My advice to anyone thinking of considering Optimum is to run in the opposite direction. There are much better services (especially fiber options) that are so much better.

Terrible internet provider. Down right evil. They're cheap but they run these plays where they will suddenly not be able to collect your payment and not alert you with the intention to kick you off promotions. Then your internet will randomly shut off during the work week and the buttons on their site or app to contact someone will suddenly stop working and when you do get someone, they try to talk you out of your promotion or just don't respond, prompting the chat to end.

The worst company to deal with. Trying to disconnect to move and they make it a hassle and actually put you on hold numerous times, One said they'd call me back in 20-30 minutes and never did. Their sales people lie and try to disconnect your service to claim you as a new customer and to save you $2. They won't cancel and order when you ask numerous times and you have to call it in yourself. This company and these people have no morals at all. Service, customer service.

I gave one only because I had to give a star. Every single day between 1:20 and 1:45 my internet goes out…EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! I unscrew the coaxial and screw it back in and voila it works…like Groundhog Day every single day! I have called customer service four times now…first trying to get to a human it’s 8 mins…then When you do they barely speak English and have names like “Mary” and it’s another 6 mins give or take for them to “pull up your account” just to get transferred. I explain the issue…what does he do? Sales pitch for their wireless service 🤦♀️. Dude address the issue please …well I see that it’s working now…yes yes it is because I took the steps to make it work…ok let’s do a factory reset to see if that fixes the problem…ummm it’s 1:44 pm on Sunday are we going to g to stay on the phone u til 1:20pm tomorrow?? I told him thanks for not helping, said goodbye and hung up…he continues to call back 4 times u til I told him to stop calling or I will file a bigger complaint than I already plan to…time for a new internet provider
