THIS IS A MALICIOUS REVIEW. Intended to harm my business.

I think you can make your own mind up over the state of mind of this person. He has never been with 10 miles of my properties and probably has never visited Orkney. I have not used this site enough to report malicious reviews but I will do so now.

Orkney Crofts - Avoid

We arrived at East Heddle on a Saturday evening for a 7 day stay. First impressions were not good as externally the gardens and outbuildings can best be described as shambollic. Inside the property we found cobwebs, dirty floors, evidence of mice in cupboards, a dirty towel in the bathroom and crushed and dirty bed linen. This is described as a 5* property! Totally unacceptable, particularly as we would have expected a deep clean to ensure the property was Covid-safe. We called the owner, Simon Treasure, who arrived and, after much heated discussion, agreed that the property was not clean and offered to get his cleaner back on Monday. We were not willing to stay in the property until then - and had no confidence that the property would ever be made clean and safe - and so declined his offer. Fortunately we were able to find good accommodation elsewhere. We are still trying to get our £675 back from Mr Treasure but he does not reply to correspondence and 2 weeks on we are not hopeful. I fear our only recourse will be via the courts. Avoid.

East Heddle was rated as the best 5 star accommodation in Scotland by the adjudicators when it opened in 2009. Across all the properties we entertained over 1000 weeks of self catering holidays between then and Covid. At this website there are 4 very negative reviews. There are probably another dozen or so on other sites. Not the 1000 unwritten good reviews. All bar this one here related to Covid and its damaging impact.

These people were different and actively sought out problems. I do remember the cleaner had failed badly in her job. I offered to immediately have the property deep cleaned prior to their occupancy but by then there minds were set. I accept some of their criticism was justified but not to the extent they took it. They refused any solution offered and demanded a full refund. This was simply not acceptable behaviour from my point of view. A compromise could have been amicably reached but their confrontational attitude made it impossible to achieve.

Simon treasure at Orkney Crofts has…

Simon treasure at Orkney Crofts has done everything possible to avoid refunding our deposit legally due back for the cancellation of our holiday in May . He is rude and unpleasant.ignores emails and deflects requests by phone . It is a sad indictment that out of everything that has been cancelled due to COVI19 this year he is the ONLY business that has behaved in this way. im sure he is not representative of Orkney but It does put us off visiting in the future .

At this time of HIGH COVID WITH LOCKDOWNS i was suffering from a range of severe inflammatory chronic conditions which were flaring due to a serious accident where i cracked a vertebrae in my back. My eye was off the ball and dealing with customers not high priority. I apologise for this inconvenience.

The Bu at Heddle, Orkneys - beware

I have never stayed at Orkney Crofts but I have had the unfortunate experience of trying to deal with the owner, Simon Treasure. He is discourteous, disrespectful and unscrupulous.I paid a deposit on 24 Feb for a week stay at the Bu in Heddle for end of May/start of June. Clearly lockdown prevents that from happening and our contract with Mr Treasure has been frustrated. The Competitions and Marketing Authority have declared that,in such circumstances,no matter what the contract may say customers have the right to a full refund. Despite repeated requests Mr Treasure not only fails to make a refund but refuses to even reply. The CMA have said that they will take action against such individuals and even more so when there is “double recovering” from the Government and customers. I will not be lining this man’s pockets any further in future and I would strongly advise others to be careful in their dealings with him.

Please note since this original posting I have now received a full return of my deposit from Mr Treasure and an account that his difficulties were mainly related to ill health.

This person is beyond odd. I was very ill at this time. I did not appreciate how much some people value a £150 deposit over someone’s health. As soon as the Government grants became available all refunds which i had not already made, (and that was well in the thirties by then) , were processed. I was suffering from five serious chronic illnesses plus had a broken back.
