Unbelievable discrimination based on past health

Took all my details and denied to insure me because I had Malaria 6 years ago. After I was denied, they locked me out of my account
and nobody gives me an answer to why? Their answer is that their system tell them that. Your system is built by your team and you should know exactly why. I am surprised a health insurance company is allowed to discriminate like this. I hope someone will give me an answer.

Incredible expat customer service.

I was only with Ottonova for 4 months, as it became apparent due to my ownership of a company that I would need to go with a different German healthcare provider. I have never had to use their insurance for a medical appointment and cannot comment on this experience, however I can say the following: I found their customer service, onboarding process and app to all be exceptional. The dual language customer service experience has been exceptional, and managing all documentation through their app has been incredibly intuitive and user-friendly. Even when I had to cancel and change providers, they were incredibly helpful and friendly.

If my experience of their customer service represents what it is like to have them as an insurer for a longer period, I could only recommend them for Expats. Very great service!

Insurance Provider with reliable, easily reachable and responsive customer service.

Though I’m not fully signed up yet with Ottonova, I must say I’m very satisfied with the service rendered. Especially when it comes to insurances, customer service is a key factor that makes or breaks brand loyalty. Despite the small challenges faced (and thrown at them) while the onboarding process, I’m happy that the customer service rendered has been thorough and responsive. What I truly appreciate is how reliable they were in ensuring that they (kudos to Nadine!) see to and through the matter until it gets resolved. Also really appreciate that they provided me with timely required feedback. This is a great example about how companies should demonstrate and build customers’ trust. Please keep up the good work and I hope to continue to receive good or even better service as I become an official customer. Thanks! Truly a recommend!

So far not really happy with ottonova

So far not really happy with ottonova. Everything looks slick and easy to use, BUT
1) My onboarding representative was Aspen, very kind but gave me false information that cost me receiving my visa regarding what I need to prepare for a visa application (that my contract with ottonova alone would be enough to obtain my residence permit, not true).
2) I just got denied from an appointment that ottonova scheduled for me because I didn't have an insurance card.. when I asked them about it they said that that is strange behavior of the dentist, and there was a delay with the card provider and they weren't sure when I'd get it.

I have faith still that ottonova will be ok for some reason, but so far it has been an expensive series of misinformation

Regarding the visa question: As a public private health insurance company, we have issued you a health insurance certificate confirming that you have health insurance with us that meets the legal requirements. Sometimes the authorities need an extra certificate. In these cases, you will be asked to fill in certain forms, which we will of course fill out for you.

The thing with your dentist is really strange. The insurance card alone is not proof of an existing health insurance cover (as it would be with a statutory health insurance). As a privately insured person, the card is optional. It helps the receptionist to read the address data into the system. However, the card does not make more sense. This is also the reason why there are some providers who no longer issue cards at all. If the doctor doesn't want to treat you despite your statement that you have private health insurance, this is very remarkable. If something like this happens again, please give us a call. We can then talk to the practice directly by telephone and clarify any possible ambiguities.

Please always contact us if there is anything to complain about. Of course, we are also happy when you tell us when things are going well.

Smooth process of signing up with ottonova

I went through the process of signing up with ottonova and it was very smooth.
Ottonova support always reacted very quickly on all my questions and requests. It is really valuable for me that all this can be solved my chatting / sending emails, you get response very quickly and you don't have to guess whether mails are being monitored or not.
All steps of the process were organised by ottonova and no efforts were required from my side.
I hope the service will stay at the same level once I start using ottonova services :)

Please make your YouTube Ads stop

There is no contact form on the site so I want to leave a "review" here: please teach your marketing managers how to use daily cap on the YouTube advertisement. I watched today several videos and saw Ottonova ad around 10 times which is just super annoying and I would never ever want to use the product even though as an expat I would be a good target group.

To do this you go to your campaign in Google Ads -> Settings -> Frequency capping -> Set a limit..

With the large number of ads, which sometimes differ only minimally, it can happen that you see the same looking advertisement several times. But we don't want to bore you with it. Rather, the possibilities of optimising this even better for target groups are limited at some point.

Ottonova does not insure any STD…

Ottonova will not cover any STD related tests or medical consultation. They will also not cover any medication regarding STD. Avoid at all cost.

Thank you for your feedback. There seems to be some misunderstanding here. Of course, we cover the costs of examinations for the diagnosis or medication of sexually transmitted diseases if these are medically necessary. As a rule, this does not include the regular intake of preventive medication if it is used purely as a precaution against possible sexually transmitted diseases. PreP is often mentioned in this context.
This drug generally protects against HIV and is also reimbursable for ottonova under certain conditions. However, taking this medication as a permanent prevention requires a comprehensive blood test every 3 months. The total costs are about 1.000 € every 3 months. These additional costs would have to be borne by the insured community. In addition, there are no studies on this drug as to how the daily intake over a long period of time has a long-term effect on health. These risks are unacceptable for us as insurers and for our community of policyholders.
We therefore ask for your understanding that, in order to protect our community of insured persons, we cannot make an offer for a private comprehensive health insurance in these cases.

Won't insure with pre-existing conditions

I went through the process of getting quoted for Private Insurance by Ottonova. I was promised during the intake process that my pre-existing condition (mild asthma and seasonal allergies for which I get treatment for through the public system) would not exclude me from their services -- other private insurers in Germany usually charge a small premium for these conditions. After already going through most of the intake which took over 2 hours of my time, during the medical evaluation, the evaluator was very unprofessional and at the end of the call informed me that I most likely would not be able to obtain insurance through them. I was asked to confirm that I have my conditions, then on the next page was told I would not be able to receive insurance, without any explanation of any kind or offer of a higher premium. When I followed up via email with my contact their, she was equally vague and unhelpful. If they refuse to treat people with rather mundane pre-existing conditions like seasonal allergies and asthma, no wonder they have so few subscribers and such a bad track record.

We are very sorry that you made these very bad experiences with us. In Germany it is very important for a private health insurer to know which pre-existing illnesses exist when assessing the risk. In contrast to statutory health insurance, the contribution for private health insurance depends on the age of entry, the benefits applied for and the state of health. Your information on existing pre-existing conditions is evaluated with a statistics tool. The result was that unfortunately we cannot make you an offer here. If you should have found a private health insurance elsewhere, which insures you with a small supplement, then we are very happy for you. We are sorry that there have been misunderstandings here.

10/10 from the moment I signed up!

Ottonova has been 10/10 from the moment I signed up until the moment my contract ended. The concierge service helped me get everything I needed and it was all done in English too. Everything with them was quick, very easy and super convenient. The app helps you manage all of your appointments and uploading your medical documents was a breeze. With payment following only a few days later. I would recommend them to any expat looking for insurance. I have only had a positive experience with them!

Best Health Insurance Ever!

I’ve been with Ottonova for 8 months now and it’s been a fantastic experience all around. The concierge service is a game changer and the staff is always very friendly. Any medical bills or prescription invoices I’ve sent over through the app were paid right away.

Ottonova has exceeded my expectations…

Ottonova has exceeded my expectations in every possible manner. Their customer service is top-notch, always attentive, timely, and guides you toward the best solution. You are in great hands from the start of signup process to setting up appointments, and quick reimbursements with a simple photo upload in the app. I really appreciate how responsive and friendly the team members are, and how user-friendly the Ottonova app is. Their English speaking team is a joy to work with as they help you navigate, and make any complicated process efficient. I have recommended Ottonova to friends and would highly recommend it to anyone who want a true customer-oriented, trustworthy insurance provider.

Brilliant.

Fast, friendly, efficient, comprehensive, helpful... We can go ahead and throw all the positive adjectives in there!
Most importantly, they made me feel comfortable to ask questions, no matter how small or silly (I tend to get overwhelmed by technicalities).
Each time I wanted to enquire about something, I was replied to very promptly, professionally and, most importantly, as if I'd been a client of theirs for years.
My representative was Aspen, and she was just LOVELY.
And whenever I had a question and she was unavailable, one of her colleagues would answer me in record timing.
A brilliant team!!
They've made a process that would usually be difficult and stressful, easy and fast instead.

Most customer-friendly insurance company out there!

Ottonova's customer service is exceptional! The name of my representative was Aspen, and she is fantastic. Very responsive and competent! I've never dealt with an insurance company this customer-friendly in my entire life.

I am an American expat who moved to Hamburg on a Family Reunification visa. The visa process is quite confusing, particularly as it relates to health insurance requirements. The Hamburg immigration office required me to obtain a signature from the private health insurance company proving their compliance with Annex 6 (a specific provision in German law). Several German private health insurers claimed that they were in compliance with Annex 6, but in fact most of them are not. I can assure you that Ottonova is, and their team will work tirelessly to ensure that all your health insurance needs are taken care of. They definitely helped make my move across the world much less stressful!

Superb private insurance in Germany!

My experience with ottonova so far has been great. Everything is easy, from signing the contract to making an appointment.
Everything you need to do, is done through the ottonova app and I have to say everything works fast an efficiently.
I would recommend ottonova 100% to anyone who wants quality and top customer service.
