Unusable filament. DO NOT BUY!
I have ordered 20 spools of OWL filament for 3D printing. Since receiving them, I have tried printing filament from the 20 spools. It's a slow process, which involves testing, temperature tuning and other specific activities. There are insurmountable issues with the material received, detailed below:
1. Inconsistent diameter. Anything from 1.66 mm to 1.93 mm or above in places, trending towards being thicker, rather than thinner (measured using a digital caliper).
2. Bent filament on the spool. By that, I mean the filament is straight and suddenly has a small "dent" in straightness, bends a little towards a side, then back. This adds more friction in the whole extruding system.
3. Blobs on the filament. I mean... GIANT blobs. Some were 2.79mm in diameter...
4. It doesn't heat up quickly enough. I have tested at temperatures up to 270 degrees Celsius, using a very simple method: heat nozzle to temperature, send "G1 E100 Fnnn" to printer. "nnn" is the feed rate in mm/minute. Printer starts extruding, and I can see reported nozzle temperature starting to drop, and extruder starts skipping. Feed rate was as low as 120mm/minute, which is very, very slow. I have cross-checked with known filament (DevilDesign Black PETG), which had no problem extruding at 120, 240, 360, 480 and 600. All that, using a 0.25mm and a 0.4mm nozzle. All spools were placed in a dehydrator for 24h before using, and were tested immediately after drying. The 3D printer I am using is a high performance printer, and none of the numerous other brands I have been using are exhibiting these issues. I have contacted the trader and I have received no response to my request.
