Overpaid for what it's worth.
I bought a VW Caddy 2017 plate from Alex. 78800 miles, 1.6L DSG. No AC. Ex work van. £14k
Upon closer inspection post-purchase, I discovered substantial undeclared defects. The van, previously used as a work vehicle, shows extensive cosmetic damage, including deep scratches, numerous dents, a broken left-side mirror, and damaged paintwork still displaying the previous company’s name. Additionally, the interior panels are broken and mismatched winter/summer tyres were used to pass the initial MOT, given the price paid I would have expected more.
As I approach the vehicle's first MOT under my ownership, I am increasingly anxious about its condition. I am not a mechanic and possess limited knowledge which exacerbates my concerns. The three-month warranty provided should have been a warning sign, and I now regret not recognising it as such.
Given the vehicle's current state, it is worth about half of the purchase price without the additional work to restore it to a respectful standard. I can now see VW caddy vans with less milage, bigger engines and in better condition for thousands less.
I cannot help but feel deceived and regretful. I strongly advise potential buyers to exercise caution and thoroughly inspect any vehicle before purchase, as pictures can be misleading.
