The software is flawed, operationally a nighmare

We engaged Paycor in November 2023, but the experience has been a nightmare. By mid-February, we had already gone through three different project managers, and the system was still not operational. We only went operational July 1st 2024 . As a small business with 40 employees—now reduced to 15 due to our seasonal nature—this ordeal has been incredibly costly for us.

We don’t utilize many of the platform’s features, yet it remains time-consuming and cumbersome to use. While customer support is decent, the software itself has significant flaws. On occasion, payroll errors resulted in double checks being issued to employees. Overall, this has been a frustrating and disappointing experience for our business. After months it has not improved and we are locked into a contract

Do not use this payroll system

Do not use this payroll system, run now! All we have had is problems!!! They are with holding our W-2s now and employees cannot get into the system. They have withheld entire checks and sent double checks to staff, the information gets lost, PTO gets lost or doubled in the system to name a few things. There is no costumer service, it gets sent over seas and then they hang up on you. It's awful! Run!!!

Lots of promises, such poor delivery

Lots of promises up front from their sales team, with such poor follow through in implementation. Integrations take forever to get set up, requiring lots of work around through the process. Many mistakes made in the set up process, costing us money to get our accountant to correct those.
Feb. 2025 UPDATE: they didn't configure our employee data correctly and our 401k benefits aren't being properly applied. Lackluster response from the iron curtain of customer service.

The worst customer service ever

The worst customer service ever. If you’re lucky and call in the afternoon you might get someone who speaks English and can understand what you need. The rest of the time they just try to get you off the phone. Spent an hour and half on the phone with them just being transferred around and I was only trying to run a simple report!

I have been using Paycor for about 10…

I have been using Paycor for about 10 years but they give me no choice but to find another payroll company. I’m not sure what is going on but there is a HUGE disconnect between support and clients. Basically there is no support. On chat they tell you to make a ticket on the ticket they give you a link, when you explain it’s not working they say they can’t help. I can’t have a payroll company who cannot assist with basic things like setting up taxes in a new State. They overcharge me for late fees for submitting payroll and late then say they are aware of the issues but NO REFUND!!!!! I’m done.

This is the worst implementation ever

This is the worst implementation ever! Nothing has been done correctly, and they do not talk to each other. They tell you something is done, but it's not. Three payrolls are out, and GL accounts are STILL not set up. Escalating issues does no good.

Paycor told me I needed a 401k…

Paycor told me I needed a 401k Interface for $1000, which turns out to be a FALSE statement. Unfortunately, I did not find out until they already withdrew my money. This is only a 2 person payroll. They refuse to refund or credit my account. This service has never been created or used! I was told they would credit my account and could NOT refund me. Now they won't credit me either! NEVER USE THIS SERVICE. THEY DON'T RESPECT YOUR BUSINESS!

No idea how Paycor remains in business...

I never write reviews; however, Paycor is so horrible, I hope to spare someone from making the same mistake we made. If you're looking at Paycor, please make 180 degree turn and never look back. We've not had even 1 payroll in 19 months process without an error within the Paycor system. They are unable to explain why the errors that happen, happen (eg. employees pay processing at a higher rate than input in every data point of their system right up to the moment we hit submit). They are unable to fix the system errors, and they refuse to accept responsibility for their system glitches. Their integration with our benefits did not work as promised and they sent out incorrect W2s. When we pointed out their W2 error, they took 3 months to fix it, and that was only after we spoon-fed them every single bit of info that was already in their system. After assuring us we would not be charged for them to fix their error, they stole funds from our bank account as a fee for fixing their error. These are only a few of the nightmares we've had with Paycor. Unfortunately, they've cost us far beyond the exorbitant cash cost for their "shoddy service", and I regret daily our choice to sign an agreement with them. The day we're finished with them can't come soon enough.

BUYERS BEWARE

We just want to talk with someone...this is the most frustrating part of it all. The system itself isn't the problem its the implementation, the lack of customer service, the excuse after excuse. No rhyme or reason to the errors that occur even though you break them down for their "experienced team" the try to close your case without resolution. Taxes arent paid timely, time off isnt set up correctly, etc... Sales person should have stayed selling used cars.. he is the WORST!

1. Bad invoices. We dispute and no one can detail the exact codes and reason for the bill line items. 2. 1800 is a waste of time. No one is experienced. They operate in silos. Same rethoric.

You are better off using a calculator

You are better off using a calculator, pencil and paper to calculate payroll, then driving to each employee's bank to make a deposit of a paper check.
As someone mentioned in a previous review, it's the ol' bait & switch. We were sold on Paycor last fall, with promises it would be far better than ADP. Spoiler alert...they are worse than I could have imagined.
I have a myriad of issues, which I have emailed (because phone calls are apparently out of the question) to our original salesperson - they could not be bothered. Some of the highlights of our experience are:
1. Signed up with the promise of a 12 month promotional discount of 50% off both the monthly user fees and the complete monthly fee. After noticing these discounts were not applied after a couple of months, I began to ask. Here I am, in July, still paying full price every month and still not a single credit to our account. I am actually on a chat session now where I have asked about the status of our case...to which I was told the case has been closed and they cannot give me any further details but that she can escalate the case if I would like. This case has supposedly already been "escalated" twice.
2. Chat is the only means of communication. So, every time you chat, you start back at square one and the person on the other end usually can't help you anyway. They refer you to the online User Guide, which is completely generic and only gives the very basics of instruction.
3. When we first started with Paycor, we had two assigned Implementation Guides. My meetings with them were super fast, so I had several questions once we actually got into the routine of Paycor and issues came up. I thought having their direct emails would help...and maybe it would but they seem to be on PTO every other week. I also had one rep that completely ghosted me once we did finally have a conference call set, then when I reached out the following week to find out what happened he told me he had been sick. Most professionals follow up on things like that with their clients.
4. I'd love to get into the actual issues that I am having with the site but, honestly, I've probably only scratched the surface at this point since I cannot get answers to go further. I DO enjoy the payroll reports being as thorough as they are and the pay grid has been easy to understand and work with, but it's not worth all the other mess that Paycor has created. The time-keeping/clock system is already dated, the "Impersonation" feature that was extremely helpful during the one week that we had it has now been discontinued (but they've promised they are working on it and will have it back soon...that was six months ago), and overall the site Menu is all over the place to the point where I have to write down my steps to remember where I found things or else it takes me 30 minutes to retrace my steps when issue arises again.
Overall, I feel like I've given Paycor the benefit of the doubt and many, many chances to right their wrongs. Unfortunately, I am left holding the bag and now have to go back to the drawing board to do more research on a new payroll provider for the coming year.

Terrible implementation process and even worse after

Terrible implementation process, be prepared to work with half a dozen different people (all different functional responsibilities) who don’t communicate well internally and with client team. No timelines or status updates, it’s check boxes and keep moving. Even escalating there doesn’t do much, they blow the trumpets and pound on their chest a little but doesn’t move needle. As soon as the last box is checked, you are “done with implementation” and immediately tossed into general support. You would think maybe it gets better. It doesn’t. No names to contact and have to use 800 numbers and random chat people to get support. The support is horrible and takes forever, you get tossed to various people, wait for emails, etc. It’s too bad because the system once setup is pretty decent but everything around it just sucks. This is a big corporate machine experiment gone wrong. Probably will be bailing at some point and back to prior solution. Save the time and headache or venture at your own risk. By the looks of online reviews, we were not alone.

The roach motels of payroll.

The roach motels of payroll.
You can check in but you can't check out. These people are so disorganized and incompetent, it is a true miracle they are still in business. We notified them within the required time period that we were cancelling with them in lieu of another platform. They're now telling us that we never canceled, and they have deactivated one of our companies on the wrong date, leaving us in a lurch forcing us to use our new payroll company before it is ready. Nothing is easy with this company, and if you have a complex question you will get different answers from everyone you speak with. If they are on your list of payroll companies for consideration, I highly recommend avoiding. Poor service, antiquated platform and getting data out is tedious and time consuming.

Terrible company

Terrible company. Nothing worked correctly with integration as they promised. Customer service is terrible and they have no idea what they are talking about. They just read from a script they are given. Cancelled and move to new company. Now Paycor has shut off all employees from accessing their own payroll information.

Stay away from Paycor to save your life

Stay away from Paycor to save your life, their customer service is super bad, wasting so much time to call Paycor for nothing, they screwed up our clients tax filing, W2, and they are holding $110k taxes payment and not returning to us, they took the payroll fund from wrong bank account and our clients were very upset. Paycor staffs are under educated, they don't know what they are doing, never, never able to help, the implementation of payroll account set is completely wrong. We cannot connect with anyone for help and assistance. We wish we can give negative star, they are worst of the worst, unless you want a nightmare, otherwise, don't use Paycor to save your life.

Paycor - Neglectful and borderline malpractice

DO NOT MOVE TO PAYCOR. Paycor has been the worst payroll company I have experienced in 20 years. We have been using them for a little over a year. There is a serious issue with general competency. I've never felt so unsupported in my life and have zero confidence in using them. You do not get a dedicated person. You always have to wait for an email from a "general" CS rep. They love to give out case numbers which is a form of lip service.
You do not get a resolution to issues timely. You have to double check any adjustments you ask them to process for they have staff with minimal training working there so errors are made. We immediately had issues upon transferring over. They did not tell us that they would be using personnel to enter data "manually" because they did not have access to system files. They requested hard copies of reports to get this done which means I had to check each employee and ALL their information (address, SS, Direct Deposit, Taxes, benefits) you name it I had to check it just to ensure it was correct. I would done the entry myself if I knew but instead they created a fire drill for me to get up and running timely. Also, they screwed up our request for a corrected W2. Instead of making a manual entry, which is typcial, someone voided all paychecks for one employee for 2023 and reissued new checks to fix a W2. Even I knew that was not the correct process. Of course you can make a manual entry. They withdrew funds for these checks again although we already paid these in 2023 and said refund notices were sent to the agencies but I do not have proof of this after requesting. They set up our benefit accrual policies wrong. The platform has issues with on boarding which we cannot use, but we are paying for. Paycor has not resolved the issue for over a year. The program itself manages to over complicate simple data needed for employers and provides lots that our business does not need and makes it difficult to navigate. The standard reports are also useless and do not apply to our business. We do not need labor tracking for OSHA but we do need a standard YTD earnings report which should be available and is not. THE WORST COMPANY in the history of payroll companies. We are looking into another to switch by this June.

Paycor has the worst customer service…

Paycor has the worst customer service and support for their clients. When you actually get ahold of someone, they don't know anything. It is hard to reach employees to get support. And worse, there isn't a department or option when calling to speak with someone regarding urgent same day payroll issues. They are supposed to be a payroll processing company but it can take 24+ hours to receive a response and then you get a new person each time and basically have to start over explaining the issues. No continuity among service and no dedicated customer service teams and no service department or group set up to handle immediate urgent payroll needs. It's ridiculous. It asks for date of experience but this is always an issue every time you need support.
