The quality of Peckish bird food has detiorated. It's very noticeable to me and also to the birds. I'm not getting as many birds on my feeders as I used to get and it's lasting longer untouched in the feeders.

You My wife bought Peckish Complete Seed mix. It is of such poor quality that the birds throw most of it on the ground.
Will not buy again
Having now had a reply from the company I stand by my remarks. They should look at all the other reviews which report on the company so badly

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and I’m really sorry to hear that the Peckish Complete Seed Mix hasn’t met your expectations. This isn’t the experience we want for our customers, or for the birds in your garden.

Birds can be selective, but they shouldn’t be discarding most of the mix. We’d really like to look into this for you and make things right. If you’re able to get in touch with our Customer Service team, we can gather a few details and investigate.

Update: I can see you have contacted us via our contact form, in which a customer service agent is awaiting a reply from yourself to investigate your concerns further.

Peckish Complete Energy Bites Filled Feeder

Probably OK in dry weather, but here in Wales the pellets got damp and stuck together at the base so they did not drop. I had to clear them out and out them in a traditional All Weather Seed Feeder.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and we’re sorry to hear this experience resulted in a 2-star rating. We understand how frustrating it must have been to find the feed had become damp and wasn’t flowing properly.

These pre-filled feeders are designed to make bird feeding quick and easy, but as with most feeders, their performance can be affected by very wet or exposed conditions. Hanging them in a more sheltered spot can help reduce moisture and clogging, and in prolonged wet weather an all-weather feeder may be a better option.

We really appreciate you sharing your experience, as it helps us and other customers understand how our products perform in different environments.

Thanks,

Chalk Filler in Fat Balls

I ordered a large quantity (50) of complete energy wild bird fat balls but on arrival I saw that a main ingredient was calcium carbonate (chalk) filler which is not good for birds. I lodged a complaint but got no response. I threw them away and am making my own. Not impressed

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us review.

We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed with both the product and your experience contacting us. We have checked our inbox and can’t find a previous enquiry matching this issue or your name. If you’re able to resend your message, or provide the ticket number from our automated reply, we’d be very happy to look into this further for you. Our customer service team can be reached at customerservice@westland.com

Regarding the ingredients, the primary component of our wild bird fat balls is beef tallow. Calcium carbonate is included at a much lower level and is commonly used in bird food as a nutritional supplement. It provides an additional source of calcium, which helps support eggshell formation in breeding birds and bone development in young birds.

We appreciate you sharing your feedback, and would like to hear from your directly to look into this.

Peckish no mess seed…

We bought a large sack of peckish no mess bid seed in a paper sack which split open into the foot well of the car on the journey home. The no mess is a misnomer, we have lots of birds visiting our bird station and these include tits, finches and woodpeckers. Every day there is a great deal of stuff left over and the ground has become a soggy porridge. I try to keep the feeders clean as recommended by the RSPB but I shall not be buying this product again.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we’re sorry to hear about your experience.

We would not expect the paper sack to split during normal handling or transport, so we’d really appreciate the opportunity to look into this further. If you’re happy to contact us directly at customerservice@westland.com
with the packaging information (and any photos if available), our team can investigate what may have gone wrong.

With regard to the product itself, the term “No Mess” refers to the seed mix being fully edible, meaning husks and shells have been removed to reduce waste beneath feeders. However, as different bird species naturally select their preferred ingredients, some seed may still be dropped or left uneaten, particularly when a wide variety of birds are visiting, as you’ve described.

We do appreciate your comments about feeder hygiene and ground conditions, and we’re sorry that this product hasn’t met your expectations on this occasion. Thank you again for sharing your feedback.

Kind regards,
The Peckish Team

I bought a box of 50 fat balls from a well known retailer which, when opened appeared grey and old, so unlike the ones in a packet. I thought ok give them a go, but the birds have totally ignored them, even when my other bird feeder was empty. They have languished in the feeder for two months and now need to be thrown away together with the rest of the box. Not good!!!

Fat balls

I usually purchase a different brand from Home Bargains but had ran out and got the Peckish ones from Morrisons.
The frequency that the birds feed off them is much lower than the HB ones and clearly the don't enjoy them as much.
So back to HB and theirs are also cheaper.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, and I’m really sorry to hear that the birds haven’t been visiting your Peckish fat balls as frequently as you’d expected.

One thing that can sometimes cause this is that wild birds are naturally very cautious, and any change in their environment, such as a new type of food or a different feeder, can make them take a little while to feel confident enough to return. This can lead to a short delay in feeding while they assess that everything is safe.

That said, we never want you to feel disappointed with one of our products. If you’d like to share the product details and the batch code with our customer care team, we’ll be more than happy to look into this for you.

Peckish Paper Bags Bursting & Mouldy

Peckish for years provided avian guests with a basic but welcome form of bird food. For convenience, economy and environmental benefits I would buy 20kg bags to reduce deliveries. Alas, someone at Peckish must have persuaded them to start using paper bags, a very naïve decision in terms of maintaining freshness and strength under typical storage conditions. One bag burst almost straight away, making a huge mess, while the other went mouldy very quickly in this inadequate packaging. I have no idea how many birds may have been harmed before the mould was noticed but numbers around my garden have declined very significantly. Thus I have wasted £40+ on inappropriately packaged bird food, had a huge mess to clear up, a bag of mouldy product to throw away, and birds harmed or deprived of food that is safe to eat. This is negligence on the part of Peckish, as the very obvious weaknesses of these paper bags should have been detected through testing under realistic storage and usage conditions. Needless to say, bird feed supplies are now from other suppliers with sensible packaging.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. I’m really sorry to hear about the issues you’ve experienced with the recent 20kg bags of Peckish bird food, this certainly isn’t the experience we want for our customers.

As part of our sustainability commitments, Peckish has moved to plastic-free paper packaging, which is designed to meet strict strength and durability requirements to safely hold the weight of bulk seed. These bags are also tested to protect the product when stored in normal, dry conditions. We supply a large number of these bulk bags each year, and they generally perform very well, so your experience is something we’d definitely like to look into further.

I’d really appreciate the chance to investigate what happened in this case and pass your feedback to our packaging and quality teams. If you’re able to share the product name, batch code, and any photos of the packaging or affected seed, that would be extremely helpful.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, we value your feedback, and we want to ensure you feel confident in our products going forward.

Some assembly observations

I bought your Everyday Bird Table to replace a cheaper buy that broke in high winds. Very impressed with the wood quality, but some issues with the build.

- not all ends of the wood had pilot holes to make assembly easy.
- no pilot holes made it hard to screw with either manual or electric Phillips screwdriver and 2 screws had their heads handled and would go in. Had to find alternative screws for this.
- good idea to print assembly guide on the box but doesn't give any hint on what order to build it in. I put the table pillars on the roof first but this made attaching to the table difficult, which is how the screw heads got damaged. Had to remove the roof to get the table attached.

With issues I took about 2 hours to assemble, longer than I'd expected considering how few parts there are.

Maggots and moths in bag

When I opened the bag of peckish complete bird seed it was full of small white moths and more alarmingly full of maggots, which is obviously where the moths came from. I Contacted the company who didn’t want to know and told me to go back to the shop where I purchased it from. I had by then tipped all the seed at the top of my garden and thrown away the maggot and moth filled bag. I am still finding moths and maggots three days later. Will never buy peckish again the companies reply was awful.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and for taking the time to share what happened. I’m very sorry to hear about the unpleasant experience you had when opening your bag of Peckish Complete Bird Seed, and I completely understand how frustrating this must have been for you.

In situations like this, returning the product to the retailer is the best step, as it enables them not only to provide a refund or replacement but also to check their remaining stock and prevent further issues.

That said, we do appreciate the inconvenience you’ve been put through. As a gesture of goodwill, we would like to send you a £5 HTA National Garden Gift Voucher. If you could kindly reply to your original email with your full postal address, we will arrange for this to be posted to you.

New paper bag that doesn't let you see…

New paper bag that doesn't let you see what's in the feed. I thought peckish to be a reputable brand so brought it good faith.
Terrible filler bird food, full of millet! My usual unpicky birds refused to eat it... Even the starlings refused it! You know it's bad if they won't even touch the stuff. Shame. I now don't feel confident buying other products, especially after their other reviews.

Poor quality of packaging

Recently purchased Peckish fat balls so disappointed over a quarter of them broken into small pieces not suitable for fat ball feeders.
They need to rethink the packaging it is not suitable for delivery. I don't know where the fault lies Peckish, Amazon, or the delivery drivers, either way they need better packaging.
It is not fair on the purchaser. I will be reluctant to but again.,

Hello,

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear of your disappointment when ordering our Peckish Energy Balls.

All our energy balls are tested during production for their stability in varying temperatures. Once the ball has been formed they're kept refrigerated until packed. It's at this point where a sample from each batch will be kept and tested, to make sure that once they’ve reached ambient room temperature they stay in form. Should there be an issue during the testing procedure, this is dealt with by our bird care team to prevent these batches going out.

Your contract of sale lies with the retailer in which these were purchase, and should be your first contact point in retrieving a refund or exchange.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Thanks,

Absolute rubbish quality!

I found out what poor quality Peckish is, some time ago, so never buy it. However, I was given a tub of fatballs, coconut shells and some other bits and pieces, from a friend, so put it out for the birds to try, along with my usual feed. Without exception, it was ignored and, suffice to say, even the rats ignored the fat balls. Now all gone in the bin.
They must sell their stuff so cheaply to their outlets but who buys it?
The 1star is for the empty tub which I can use for something else.

So disappointed

UPDATE
I contacted the customer service department and sent them photos of the broken feeders, they sent me 4 of the black plastic connectors but it was impossible for me to fit them onto the holders, they have now sent me two new feeders which so far are fine, so I am keeping fingers crossed.

I have purchased 2 of your nugget feeders and both times they have only lasted a few days before the hanging attachment has come off. The feeder itself is really sturdy but that's no good if you can't hang it up. They are quite pricey too, so it's very disappointing

Poor Quality products

I purchased over a period of a month 4 boxes of the half coconut shells. Every box had a defective shell with the loop missing so you can not attach a piece of string. When I emailed them, the attitude was " not our problem, go back to the retailer.
Clearly they dont care. I will not be buying this low quality product again

Birds hate it

I've tried enough of the Peckish stuff to know that it's simply awful quality. So bad in fact that the birds simply pick at it and leave the vast majority of what I put out for me to clean up and throw in the bin. Even the wood pigeon won't eat it and it usually eats anything and everything. Says it all.

The other feeder that doesn't have Peckish product in it is absolutely FULL of birds. The Peckish filled one is sitting there completely ignored.

As someone who has tried this brand, take my advice, don't bother. You're literally going to pay for stuff you need to throw away. Do like I will be doing from now on and avoid this brand.

The worst fatballs I've EVER purchased

The worst fatballs Ive EVER purchased. I add them to feeders every few days as (with other brands) they are loved by local birdlife...with these they have been on 2 weeks and have been grazed and left alone.

Other brands stock these in clear plastic tubs, I thought a cardboard container was more sustainable - as soon as I opened the box I think I see why they might want to hide whats inside.
Its clearly to hide the low quality of the ingredients.
The packaging shows images of fatballs with a high volume of black sunflower seeds expected in a premium product and loved by wildlife... open the box and you can see that is not the reality, very low number of seeds visible and mostly filler.

Will not purchase again and do not recommend.
