Extremely unprofessional – misleading job and refusal to pay
I have honestly never experienced this level of unprofessionalism from a recruitment agency.
Olivia sent me to a site for second-fix carpentry. When I arrived, it was nothing like the job I had been promised. It involved first-fix work on an old roof that needed strengthening, with a safety net underneath the rafters. In my opinion, the conditions and type of work were completely different from what had been described to me.
I remained on site until approximately 1pm, and afterwards I was told I would not be paid because I had not completed any work. I did not carry out the work because it was not the job I had agreed to attend. I am still owed approximately £100 for my time.
The following morning Anton, the director, contacted me. Instead of resolving the situation professionally, I was even called “Pinocchio.” After the way both Anton and Olivia handled this, I simply do not trust the information they provide.
Their own website advertises “over 25 years of experience”, while Peel Construction Recruitment Ltd was incorporated in February 2024. Whatever explanation they have for that wording, the level of professionalism I experienced certainly did not reflect what I would expect from a company promoting that level of experience.
Peel Construction
Tradespeople should be able to rely on an agency to describe the job accurately and honour payment for their time. I would strongly advise other carpenters and tradespeople to be very careful when dealing with Peel Construction, particularly Anton and Olivia.
I would never work through this company again.
