Awful, non-existent customer support

I would give negative stars if I could. I have been trying to opt out with their suppression tool and the only option to verify my identity is a very old Hotmail address from 20 years ago which Microsoft (having acquired Hotmail) will not allow me to recover due to the account being inactive. I have contacted PeopleConnect multiple times and nobody responds, so I am stuck with my personal data with 27 data brokers and no way out.

PeopleConnect

PeopleConnect, owned by Intelius, do not collect accurate, up to date information. The following critical issues have been observed:
1. The data harvested upon people is wrong and/or out of date.
2. People have extreme trouble removing their data, with severe roadblocks placed.
3. You must agree to binding arbitration to use, view, or delete data.
I am confident in saying that this company is untrustworthy, and violating consumer rights laws.

These data extortion companies are evil

These data extortion companies are evil and SHOULD BE shut down! This is no different than if they put all your personal information on flashing roadside bill boards all over the country. It is bad enough that the credit bureaus hold our info hostage. This needs to stop NOW!!!

Very shady

Claim to have personal details on me. Purposefully stick roadblocks in the way of exercising my right to privacy. Then, to rub it in, to using their "suppression tool", you have to agree to binding arbitration, unless you send a *physical letter* to San Diego.

On top of all of this, the fact that they claim to have one of my addresses in a state I've never lived in makes me think that they actually have less information than they claim.

Don't use it. Just want to get more info from you.

This company have you verify your personal info , it locate you but when you ask to suppress your info then there's an error with the suppression. They get info from you they don't have, don't suppress anything. Probably have more personal info to sell now. Dont use it.

A month ago I went on PeopleConnect.us…

A month ago I went on PeopleConnect.us to suppress my personal information. Everything was removed successfully. One month later, they've displayed all of my information to the public again despite me asking to suppress my personal data. I will be reporting them.

SCAM

I agree with another user review from rose. I was following directions from my Discover credit card app to opt out of websites that had gathered information on me, and the link from Discover took me to Peopleconnect. After inputting my email, DOB, and name, they search up and found my profile which doesn’t have a number associated to it so they’re unable to text any verification to me… and there’s nowhere to manually input either. After a while, I start wondering if it’s a scam despite being led here from Discover (which I’ve been using for years without issue and had gained some trust with). I found the opt out button and type my email in… only to be told a verification for opt out was sent to the email. Okay, so I check the email. Email says something that tells me an unverified opt out request was performed and that I’d need to “log in” and request the opt out again.

Mind you, there is no log in button on the website.

They’re basically just collecting your email, name, and DOB at this point. This website needs to be shut down. Can’t even find useful information on them, their story, or how they work in their “about” page.

opt out system is used to gather more info

This site owns and operates TruthFinder.com, InstantCheckmate.com, Intelius.com and USSearch.com which means they also handle the opt outs for these sites. However the opt out system doesn't work. First of all right off the bat they want your email before they'll let go to the next step for opting out which is absurd and frankly I think it's just a way for them to gather email addresses. Then you go to the next step and they want your name and birthday. So first they require you to give them an email then they require you to give a birthday, at this point it seems like this entire process is really just to gather information on you. You then have to click "save" which won't actually save unless you give your middle name too, see the ongoing trend here? Next step they supposedly look up your info and guess what absolutely nothing comes up. They claim if you give more info they might be able to "find" your listings. Funny you don't need anything other than a name to use their regular search function and find your info, but the opt out pretends they need more and more info. Well I go ahead and put in an address just to see if anything will come up and guess what even still nothing comes up. It's at this point that you realize the opt out is intentionally broken and all they are doing is trying to gather more information on you. Extremely shady company that needs to be shut down.
--
Update: They've slightly changed the opt out system where you now see your listing but they won't let you remove it unless you provide "verified details". It's like they had a meeting and said "What can we do to reduce opt outs?". What's particularly ridiculous is what permission or "verified details" did they receive from the person trying to opt out to post this information in the first place? Zilch, absolutely nothing. This is just your typical dark pattern garbage intentionally making opt out as difficult and convoluted as possible. PeopleConnect is a terrible company that knows exactly what they are doing and they need to be shut down immediately.
