People are nice (if you can speak to one) . Processes are TERRIBLE. Customer service is non existent, convoluted, and online is worse - it is like they have tried to use AI to create a patrician bank... See more

So bad it's almost funny
So bad it's almost funny. I tried to close my account a week ago, and asked for any surplus funds to be transferred to a new account. Funds were transferred, but my account was left open with a balance of negative £1.72. I once again tried to close the account, only to be passed around 4 different departments including one for people who need help with their bills! I finally managed to connect with someone who appear to know what they were doing. I made a payment of £1.72 to clear the balance on the account, only to be advised that this payment isn't instant so there may be interest added to the account! Having tried to make a complaint about the service offered it now seems that the complaints service is down - how convenient. I still have little faith that this is resolved! RBS please train your employees to do basic tasks like closing a customer account properly - it will save time and frustration for everyone on the phone lines!
I have misplaced my bank card & RBS…
I have misplaced my bank card & RBS says it is going to take 10 days for a new 1 which is absolutely rediculous they are making out that royal mail keep losing them when royal mail have signed for delivery so have their own delivery people now..
RBS keep sending me offers of loans & every time I apply i get refused I have been with this bank all my life & im 43 now.
To top it all off absolutely deplorable service when I try to contact them you never get through to a human if you need to speak to somebody.
MY ADICE IS GO WITH ANOTHER BANK AS THEY DONT DESERVE OUR MONEY...
RBS customer service – alien encounters
The local branch of RBS was closed some years ago. The branches to which my account were transferred have both since closed. My account is now held somewhere in the ether, untouched by human hand.
I recently tried to do two things (separately) through RBS’s online Chat and digital banking telephone services — get a new cheque book, and identify the source of a large payment into my account which had no nouns associated with the automated credit that might have indicated its origin.
The online Chat service wasted a lot of my time repeatedly misunderstanding what I wanted to do, before eventually grasping the issue and offering to connect me to an agent. It then told me I could expect a three hour wait — during which I was apparently expected to keep checking my screen to see if there was any response.
I gave up and tried the telephone service. But that was just another robot!
The voicemail system similarly wasted my time and then transferred me to a line to speak to an agent, telling me only that they were all busy, and did not even indicate where I was in the queue for anyone's attention!
The concept of customer service has evidently become completely alien to RBS.
As if to emphasise that point, when I tried to put this message into their online complaints form, it suggested that there was an error (unspecified) while trying to submit the form, asked me to try again after some time!
They don't want to be told how awful they have become.
Do not bank with RBS if you have a form…
Do not bank with RBS if you have a form of disability and expect support! I suffer with autism and have telephone anxiety, my account was blocked due to a payment they deemed fraudulent - it wasn’t. Tried to access support was repeatedly told nothing they could do and to take a telephone call… you wouldn’t ask a person registered blind to read an email, or would you! Absolutely shocking way to treat anyone with complete disregard to disabilities. Now I am not undermining the importance of fraud intervention however a better understanding needs to be in place when dealing with customers. I stated I’m happy for money to be returned and not sent to the “fraudulent” payee…. However that’s not an option either. Currently sat with over £8000 held from my account with no care on their part! Attitude from Lee in the complaints department rude, undermining and has complete lack of understanding. Some training wouldn’t go a miss!

Tried to open a business account - 16 days and nothing, a guy from India was assigned to support, no support at all. Disgrace.

Have been customer since 1977
Have been customer since 1977. Service was pretty good, back then, now it is execrable . Sent me a text ""your current account overdrawn", ( first time ever) internet down, so had to drive into town, to sort it out.
At what is supposed to be a main branch, one teller, working, with a que , used machine in bank, hard to understand, but got there and yes I was overdrawn , by £0.007 pence . I complained, machine would only accept one ten pound note, then aperture closed, was told to have a seat, until, the one teller was free. Sat for ten minutes watching her sift through numerous papers being presented by frail elderly couple, no seat provided at till, teller had to go get chair for the lady . Gave up, went home, awful bank.

I had a nightmare with Lloyds who wouldn’t return £12.8k to me. (Paid onto the wrong card). Lloyds said it could take upto 8 weeks to look into it. I contacted RBS who got my money back in 2 days.

I only use this bank to pay bills it's not my main bank I moved my banking elsewhere as I found it impossible to get even an overdraft from this bank friends and family have also either moved or on my recommendation sought banking elsewhere I find this bank useless
Shocking customer service.
Shocking! I have been a customer since 1976. Today my wife tried to open her own account, over the phone,as we were told when we walked into our local branch ( a 30-minute drive away.) The phone call was a nightmare, transferred from N. Ireland to India. We were told to open the account on-line,but we are pensioners, and find this difficult. They were useless, and we shall go elsewhere.
A complete and utter waste of time
A complete and utter waste of time. Carried out a chargeback as an item i purchased failed within 6 weeks of purchasing it and it also turned out to be counterfeit. The RBS rejected my claim and said there was nothing they could do to help. Do not trust them or rely on them to help you in your hour of need. Ive lost £220 because they WOULDNT protect a customer. Disgraceful
I visited the branch at St.James…
I visited the branch at St.James Quarter in Edinburgh. I am very pleased with the bank's service, the employees have knowledge, they were able to help and explain everything. One of the few teams that have knowledge.
It is professional team.
I got scammed by an Australian visa…
I got scammed by an Australian visa company for £1200. RBS refunded me while they investigated the company. The company by then had disappeared so the RBS took the money back off me. I phoned up every day and spent hours on the phone trying to speak to someone to sort out and no one would come to the phone. They promised a call back within 24 hours and no one called then they closed the case and said there is nothing I can do about it now as the case is now closed. I made a complaint and they said they would give me £50! What an insult! They still haven't even donen that!
I have since moved banks which I have been wanting to do for years. So glad I have finally made the move. DO NOT bank with them! Your money is not safe!!!
Shame on you RBS.....
I wish I could rate this review below 1 or give it a negative score. I have been struggling to protect my savings from online fraud, and this bank has done nothing to help.
It’s such a shame, especially since I was promised assistance but ended up not receiving a single penny.
This is the worst bank with the worst system.
Will not protect your money
I will be closing my account after last incident I’ve had problems with this bank from the word go. Locked out of accounts due to staffs illiteracy as they typed my details wrong then said I must have got my name wrong. Reading my pin allowed in front of other customers and most recently unable to stop a hacker stealing my money before it even left my account I noticed a payment pending to a ‘hacker William’ I had 8 minutes to stop it and rbs point blank refused to stop the payment asking if it was me if I had bought Anything if I was the hacker, absolutely ridiculous they then told me it isn’t fraud or theft until they have my money I was pretty much pleading with them to stop this from happening I thought your bank could protect you we both watched the money leave my account she then said review your payments and take it up with someone else then hung up. DO NOT BANK WITH THIS GROUP AS THEY TOLD ME THEY CANT STOP SCAMMERS TAKING YOUR MONEY P.S
I was hacked through no fault of my own I didn’t purchase, click, subscribe to anything and no one has access to my account other than me they hacked my Google and Amazon accounts and just started requesting money and my bank willingly obliged
The Royal Bank of Scotland
Phoned them yesterday to get direct debit stopped so I had money left for food and emergencies but today they took it out and left me overdrawn with nothing left, tried phoning them but got hit with excuses…. Piss poor service that is supposed to help people in financial difficulties but put people into more
Justice please
On 10ish found unauthorised charge on my credit card £265. Reported it and sent letters as requested. Later phoned and it as confirmed charge would be refunded within 10 days. Still no sign of my refund .tryiny to log into the mobile app is a nightmare. I have been locked out three times.i have difficulty reading the code sent on my phone. I just want my money back. Are they trying to be awkward?
Absolute worst of the worst
Absolute worst of the worst - I committed the heinous crime of changing my mobile phone number and whilst trying to access services via the app my account was locked out so I can’t get access. When I tried to speak to someone about this to get it resolved; I’m faced with a moronic bot - RBS must have got the cheapest available; and after five minutes of automated Q&A’s we finally get to the point where a decision has to be made about my initial request - reason for calling - to speak to an advisor. By which time unless I have my access details (which RBS have now locked me out of) my request can’t be taken any further - Godbye. Well they got that part right as it’s now goodbye and good riddance from me as I’m off to HSBC
