Happy with the help I received….

After talking with representative Amirah L. I was very happy and satisfied with her knowledge and understanding of what my issues were. She immediately helped me with my misunderstanding and answered my questions and helped me finish my registration for my dog. She was one of the best representatives I’ve dealt with on the phone and her service was very appreciated by me.

Beware of this company

Beware of this company. My daughter received an email from them stating your pets microchip registration is pending and to log in to get a discount on lifetime registration. Our pet has been registered to ME his entire life. He was microchipped 7 yrs ago by his vet and it was registered for life with a different company. Its always been my name at vet, my email, and his dog license has always been in my name alone. I googled this and found they search databases for micro chip numbers. No clue how they got my daughters name or email out of it. Imagine if I wasnt a responsible pet owner and keep all receipts. The company I use is looking into this. Don't be fooled into paying twice when you already have your chip registered. When I tried to call the recording says to leave a message with the microchip number. Not even 24 hr agents like the company I use who picked up right away

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We completely understand how frustrating it must feel to receive an unexpected email when you’ve always kept your pet’s records up to date, and you’ve clearly been very diligent about making sure your pet is protected.

The only way your daughter would have received an email from us is if her address was entered into our system at some point, this can sometimes happen if a registration was started online but never completed. In those cases, our system may send a reminder about finishing the process.

To clarify, we do not search external databases or use microchip numbers to find or contact pet owners. Any messages we send come only from information already provided directly to us.

If you’re able to share the email address where the message was received, we’d be happy to investigate further and confirm exactly why it was sent.

Please rest assured that your pet’s existing registration remains valid and secure.

Scam

Scam! Scam! Your pet is NOT safe from theft with these people!!! Look at how other people are saying their pets are being stolen because as long as you have the chip ID and can get into someone account, you just change the info right on the web page !!! No questions asked ! If you want to change email you do have to call but you just need the info off the web page to change it!!! NOT SAFE!!!!! P

We take the security of your pet's information very seriously and want to reassure you that unauthorized access is not possible with just a microchip ID.

To access or make any changes to an account, you must have the correct login credentials. A microchip ID alone is not enough to gain entry. The Petkey system is designed with multiple security layers to protect your data and ensure that only you, as the rightful keeper, can manage your pet’s information.

Any transfer of keepership requires additional verification and is always reviewed by our U.S.-based support team, who are available 7 days a week to confirm all requests.

If you have any reason to believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at 734-600-3463.

We will promptly investigate, secure your account, and ensure your pet’s registration remains accurate.

They enable pet theft.

If I could select negative stars I would.

About five years ago, my dog was stolen by an abusive ex-boyfriend. She was licensed in my name with the state, her microchip was registered to me through multiple companies, and I was solely responsible for her care.

Despite this, PetKey (petkey.com) allowed her microchip to be re-registered under his name without verifying its existing registration. They did not check against other databases, such as AAHA, to confirm prior ownership—a simple process that could have prevented this. Their lack of verification enabled someone with no right to take over her registration, which is deeply troubling.

PetKey’s handling of this issue reflects a serious lapse in empathy, professionalism, and diligence. Their response to my inquiry stated:

"Microchip registries are not obligated to verify if a microchip is registered with another database before independently recording the details... We will not be continuing further correspondence regarding this matter." – Customer Support Representative, PetKey LLC

This approach creates opportunities for pet theft, and I've spoken with several others who’ve experienced similar issues with PetKey within the past 3 years. While I understand their legal limitations, PetKey's unwillingness to explain their process—or outline steps to prevent future incidents—is unacceptable.

PetKey is now hard-pressing to get this review removed even though there is nothing defamatory about it.

Charged $40 for one dog. Customer service is a joke.

I registered my dog a year ago and was just charged an additional $20, without warning. I had to email to request my card information be removed to not be charged MORE and am now out $40, when eveey other registry cost less thay $20. Customer service is awful.

If I could give 10 stars I would.

If I could give 10 stars I would! I reached out to Petkey on behalf of my sister, who is not tech-aligned and didn't feel comfortable using the website. She was on the phone line with me. She adopted a dog from a dear friend who had passed and wanted to transfer the owner information on the chip. We went on the site because my sister is going on vacation in a few days and wanted to ensure that if something happened, her dog would be tied to her contact information.
Coralee was the representative who assisted us and she was nothing less than AMAZING. She listened and fully assessed the situation, always with my sister's dog's best interests in mind. She won my sister and I over very quickly. As the previous, deceased owner had already registered with Petkey, Coralee diligently validated that my sister was the new owner. She did so with great empathy, with which we were VERY impressed. We were not expecting anyone to answer, let alone a one and done resolution. Coralee helped my sister to quickly transition the ownership to her, so she could have piece of mind on vacation. I am going to spread the word about Petkey to all of my friends and my husband I will DEFINITELY be using Petkey for our future pets. Keep up the great work, Petkey!

Amazing customer support

I was absolutely destroyed when I realized my boy was missing, I called just to check if his microchip was active, and I ended up getting amazing advice and support from Halee!! She is seriously amazing, and I wanted to let her know I found Rocky!! Thank you so much, and please know that Halee’s advice was crucial in finding him. She’s awesome.
