High Quality Motorhome Cover

Superb experience from start to finish. Quality of the cover is excellent. Completing their measurement template was simple and the Protec team ensured all bits, such as the clear section over the solar panel, door opening, bike carrier and satellite dish aerial, fit perfectly. I was able to fit over my m/h on my own. Highly recommended .

Super helpful staff, great covers

I’ve been using them for years, first to make a one off for an uncommon (in the UK) van and then for a new van that Hymer could not provide dimensions till the van was made. In both cases the used latest tech to measure up and produce a great fit.

Great Customer Service

I ordered a Custom Cover in Nov 25 for my new T6 Camper conversion, impressed with the attention to detail in the process, full marks to Peter and Lisa!
The Cover arrived early in the new year, when putting it on we saw that the door flap was on the wrong side, and there were a couple of the custom mods we required missing. One phone call to Lisa, plus e-mail with Photos, followed up with a Video call with Lisa and a chap from Production so I could do a Video walk round, a New one went into production, no fuss!
Replacement delivered very promptly, and perfect! a great piece of kit.
I am realistic enough to know that sometimes, things go wrong, but in my experience, some businesses will try and shift blame, makes excuses, quote terms and conditions, refreshingly, not the case here, a simple "right, lets fix this" attitude.
Well done to everyone concerned and thank you.

Great product

Great product recently ordered a new cover due to me changing caravans Old cover stood the test of time and the harsh winters for the 7 years that I had it.
Very good after sales service from Lisa couldn't do more for me very professional and customer caring in her approach.
Slight issue at time of order due to the company changing hands and relocating production to new facility, however things are running very smoothly now and extremely happy with my new caravan cover

Protec cover for Autotrail Motorhome

Protec really took a huge amount of trouble to help us get the dimensions and cover choice absolutely right. The finished article is exceptionally well constructed and the material durable. We have been very impressed by the workmanship and the overall customer service.

Poor customer services

We purchased an expensive tow cover about three years ago and the front has eroded and falling to bits. This cover is not useable. I contacted them and was advised the company was sold and under new directorship. They said they would repair the cover for over £100 with the VAT. When I explained I would have expected a new company to honour the previous excellent customer service from the original owners I was informed they would not and they did not have to comply with the Consumer rights act in respect of fit for purpose as they only purchased the name. For such an original expensive product I would have expected the new owners to at least attempt to keep the existing customers happy but sadly this was not the case. We will be using another company now out of principle as clearly they have no interest in maintaining good customer relations.

Not the same service.

In 40 years of caravanning, we have always used Protec covers and having always had first class service, we decided to use them again to replace our existing five year old cover. In the past, we have just given Protec the year, make and model of our caravan, paid the fee and then waited for delivery.

Following our history of great service from Protec, late on a Friday afternoon, we placed an order on line for a basic cover for our 2013 Swift Challenger 570 stating that we did not need any extra allowances for an A/C unit, satellite, bike rack, access doors etc.

We had not realised at this stage that Protec had been sold earlier this year and that the new company operates under new systems and procedures. It is no longer based in Bradford and is essentially a different company.

We did, perhaps naively, tick a box that said:
“I understand that I will be required to provide additional information (measurements solar panels, access flaps, satellites, air con units, bike racks, awning rails and door location) on completion of purchase” but as we didn’t ask for any of these extras, we assumed it didn’t really apply to us.

We were surprised therefore on the Monday to receive an email from Protec/Specialised Canvas with an attached PDF file asking for several basic measurements that would involve using a step ladder to satisfy in full. They also requested photos of the front, back, top and both sides of the van. These had not been mentioned in the ordering process.

We replied to the email saying that as we are now in our seventies, we no longer felt safe using step ladders to take measurements and photos of the roof and could not understand why this was necessary as in the past, Protec had the basic model specification measurement templates in their database.

We were told that a lot of these templates had not been transferred in the sale of the company and that it was now the responsibility of the customer to supply even some of the most basic measurements. We felt unable to do that at our age and by this stage, we were losing confidence in the new company. Had we we realised this requirement beforehand, then we would not have placed the order in the first place.

We requested that the order be cancelled and whilst the company said that was possible, they directed us to their “Refund policy” at the very bottom of the order page on their web site and this does state that a 20% administration charge may be applied.

They did cancel the order for us and despite a phone call asking for an explanation of this administration fee, we were charged the full 20% which amounted to £113.

This proved to be a very expensive mistake for us so please ensure that you read their “Terms of Service” and “Refunds Policy” carefully BEFORE placing an order. Cancelling an order even within hours of placing it will cost you dearly.

Doesn't Protect

At just over 3 years, our very expensive cover started to fall to bits.
I've had 3 covers from Protec and the first 2 lasted around 15 years between them. They were really good covers and lasted.
Now 4 years old, this latest cover is almost like tracing paper, it's torn and literally falling to pieces.
The quality seems to have dropped off the scale.
Protec covers don't want to know, and looking at other reviews, I'm not alone, such a pity.
If you're looking for a cover to protect your pride and joy, look elsewhere.

REPLY TO PROTEC COVERS.

Hello Peter

I spoke with you last year about our cover and sent you photos, at just over 3 years of use.
You said the damage was due to UV and that Protec couldn't help due to the cover being out of warranty.
You advised that I glued patches to the cover.. Nice
I said that I wasn't happy with the outcome and you apologised, but words are cheaper than actually doing something about it.

The strange thing is, the tow hitch cover, which sees the same weather as the roof, is fine.
At over £400 for a cover, I think 7-9 years is about right, it used to be??

These covers used to keep our other caravans, looking like new.

Good Morning John

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, and I’m genuinely sorry to hear about the issues with your current cover.

You’ve clearly been a loyal customer over the years, and the fact that your first two covers lasted around 15 years between them is not only fantastic, it’s actually one of the longest periods I’ve known one of our covers to last, which is a real credit to how well you must have looked after them.

I’m sorry to hear that this latest cover hasn’t performed to the same standard. Our materials are manufactured for durability, but like anything exposed to the elements year after year, performance can naturally change over time depending on storage, location, and use. That said, I completely understand your frustration, especially given your past experience with us.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any email correspondence regarding this. Please feel free to get back in touch directly via email or phone, and I’ll personally make sure it’s followed up.

We do appreciate your previous support, and I’m sorry again that your experience this time hasn’t reflected what you’ve come to expect from us.

Kind regards
Peter

Happy to cast customers aside

Well what can I say, I contacted protec after an awful experience with specialised covers, to be welcomed by a chap called Peter Braisby who filled me with confidence about their service, I was told I could bring the caravan to them and they’d use the super technology to take measurement so they the full cover fitted like a glove, just to ring them first to book in, so I did just that, rang and emailed no more then 3/4 weeks later to be told we no longer do that, but that’s not to say we can’t, give me a couple of weeks I’ll get back to you, that’s where the contact ended, I’ve since heard nothing, I was looking at buying a full winter cover with extras and a towing cover I’d say probably £1400 in total, but they weren’t interested, clearly they have an abundance of clients they are able to pick and choose who they sell too, if only there was a no star review. If anyone’s interested I do still have all the email correspondence to prove said conversation.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for your honest feedback, and I want to start by offering a sincere apology — both for the breakdown in communication and the disappointment this has caused you.

You’re absolutely right that we didn’t follow through as promised, and I take full ownership of that. At the time, our business had just changed ownership (June last year), and while we worked hard to ensure a smooth transition, there were some teething issues — particularly within our design and production departments — which meant we had to temporarily suspend our measure-up service. Unfortunately, in your case, this wasn’t properly communicated or followed up, and I completely understand how frustrating that must have been, especially after your initial experience with me had restored some confidence.

We should have kept you updated — no excuses — and I’m genuinely sorry we let you down at that point.

That said, I’d really like to use this as a learning moment for our team. If you're still open to giving Protec a second chance, I’ll make it my personal responsibility to ensure you're looked after properly this time, with the priority and care your enquiry deserved in the first place.

Thanks again for taking the time to share this — even when it’s difficult to hear, feedback like this helps us improve.

Kind regards
Peter

Extremely poor after sales

I had a ProTec cover (towing jacket) for a 2021 Coachman we then upgraded our caravan in 2024 for a 8 foot wide Coachman to which I decided to go with Protec again as I thought the first one that I had was spot on. Back in July 2024 we took delivery of our new caravan and fitted the new towing jacket from Protec for the first time to find out did not fit correctly, after the numerous phone calls and emails with pictures and videos and from the offset by email they told me that they will not be doing any alterations to which got my back up at the start the problem was with the jacket is that it was very loosely fitted was not a snug and fit at all. Therefore it was flapping in the wind and I was scared that it would scratching the front of my caravan especially the windows after several weeks of arguing with them, I decided to go to specialise covers and I’ve got to omit that specialised covers are a different ball game altogether then after sales are out of this world and they know how to treat their customers with respect and their product is much much more superior than Protec

Hi Richard,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

I’m sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your recent experience. We genuinely appreciate your previous custom and the kind words you had about your first cover, so I’m disappointed to learn that the second didn’t meet your expectations.

After thoroughly reviewing all of the pictures and video you kindly provided, our design team confirmed that the towing jacket was fitting as it should and remained well within our manufacturing tolerances. We understand that you personally felt the fit could have been tighter—specifically by around 5mm as mentioned in earlier correspondence—and I’m sorry that this was not something we were able to resolve to your satisfaction at the time.

To be fully transparent, yours has been the only instance we’ve had where a customer has raised concerns with the towing jacket for a Coachman Laser Xcel. That said, we absolutely acknowledge that your feedback is valid and important to us.

I apologise sincerely that you were unhappy with our response and take full ownership that this situation could certainly have been handled better on our part. We’re always learning and will be taking this on board to ensure we improve our communication and service moving forward.

Thank you again for your comments.

Kind regards
Peter

Ripped cover

Brought a cover 2 1/2 years ago. We went for a tailor made cover over a cheap one , thinking if it’s made for the caravan it will fit properly. With it having a 3 year warranty we expected it to last. About 18 months ago we put it into storage. We cleaned and polished the caravan knowing we would not be using it for a while. We used to go up and check on it regularly especially when it had been windy. We noticed there was a small rip on the join of the roof and side, so we decided to take the cover off, when we did this it was so brittle it ripped from the back to the front of the seam. We contacted protec who firstly blamed it on the weather, then said it could probably be because the cover had not been cleaned and the pores had got blocked. We sent photos and they said they could see it was stained where it was ripped and they said the rest was in good condition. Even though it was still under warranty they said they maybe able to renew the roof but we would have to pay , the cost would be more expensive than buying 2 cheaper ones. Knowing what I know now , I would have brought a cheaper one at a fraction of the price.

Good afternoon, Mr Michael

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, and I’m genuinely sorry to hear you’ve been left disappointed with your experience.

When customers choose a tailor-made cover from us, we understand it’s because they’re looking for a quality product that offers long-term protection. So it’s frustrating to hear that things didn’t go as you expected, particularly with the cover deteriorating after being placed into storage.

While our 3-year warranty covers the material’s UV stability and water resistance, it doesn’t cover general wear and tear caused by extended exposure or long periods without cleaning. That said, I do appreciate that our explanation about the staining and blocked fibres may have felt like we were deflecting blame. That was not the intention, and I apologise if it came across that way.

I also completely understand your frustration with the quote we provided for the roof repair. We aim to keep costs reasonable for out-of-warranty work or cases not fully covered, but I appreciate your view on the value comparison with cheaper alternatives.

Ultimately, I’m sorry we weren’t able to provide a resolution that met your expectations, and I do take full responsibility that this could have been communicated better on our part. We’ll be using your feedback to help improve how we handle similar situations moving forward.

Kind regards
Peter

Good morning Jeff

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, and I’m really sorry to hear you were left feeling frustrated following your recent experience.

Since Protec Covers joined Specialised Canvas Group, we’ve standardised our fittings across all products to ensure compatibility and avoid cross-contamination during production. As part of this change, historical fittings—such as older buckles and straps—were discontinued from use throughout the factory.

The quote you received wasn’t just for a simple buckle replacement; it was to upgrade all fittings on your towing jacket to the current standard and make it future-proof, as well as to cover the cost of return delivery. That said, I completely understand how, without the right context, this must have seemed excessive.

I hold my hands up here—I didn’t explain this clearly enough at the time, and for that, I sincerely apologise. Your review has highlighted the importance of clearer communication, and I’ll be using this as a learning experience to improve how I explain things going forward.

Thank you again for your feedback, and I’m sorry once more that this wasn’t handled better.

Kind regards
Peter

Hi Sue

I’m genuinely sorry to hear you’re still having issues with your cover, and I completely understand how frustrating that must be after the time and effort you’ve put in.

Just to provide a little context for anyone reading: your original cover was purchased in May 2018. When you contacted us in May 2021 regarding a potential leak, we replaced the roof panel free of charge—even though the cover was already three years old at the time. When the issue reoccurred in early 2022, we again replaced the roof section, and the only cost we passed on was £20 to cover the collection. At that point, we did explain that any future work would be chargeable.

I understand your disappointment in having to now take extra steps to protect your cover, and while black mould and algae aren’t covered under warranty—as they’re caused by prolonged damp conditions rather than a material fault—I appreciate how it feels to be dealing with this after previous repairs. That said, your feedback is valuable and helps us understand how we can better support our customers.

I also acknowledge your decision to keep the Protec label visible on-site. While this review wasn’t a positive one, we do appreciate you continuing to use the product.

Thank you again for your comments, and I’m genuinely sorry we weren’t able to offer a more satisfactory outcome this time.

Kind regards
Peter
