As a sole email user, I find the current and past plans inflexible. My limited use of email and lack of interest in other products or a second account for a family member puts me at a disadvantage.... See more

Aufull, I ask them to help with the plan cost to see if it could be reduced, as I am a low-income pensioner. And basically told to forget it and cancel my account if not happy

Money grabbing. Have to use a second email to sign up. Absolutely laughable. Never will use or recommend.

Avoid - fails to answer email from the proton.mail shop.
Would suggest for peace of mind to avoid and choose another VPN service with better service.

I had to create a Proton email because a site only accepts Proton for sign-up. The activation email never arrived. Instead I got: “Your Proton account is currently restricted from registering on third-party services.”
The “fix”? Add a verified recovery email/phone (which defeats anonymity)
Ok sure, but to add recovery details, I must upgrade to a paid plan.
Bottom line: If you need an email for service registrations, Proton Free will block you unless you pay. Be transparent up front, or let users opt out without penalties.

Totally disgusted with protonmail, all because i signed into protonmail with protonvpn, and they wont let me have access to my emails, due to "suspicious activity" on my account even though i was the one that logged into my email with protonvpn. I have family photos and videos in the cloud i now cant access them as they blocked my account, i sent them an email days ago n nothing back. Well if i get access to protonmail account back im taking my family photos n videos out of there cloud. Ive already cancelled subscription till end of month. Sorry but ive lost faith in your company, therefore i give you a one star. Ive gone with another secured encrypted email provider with the cloud and vpn provider, i paid for this service only to be locked out, good job i only done the sub every month. You were cool..once. very disappointing. Im still waiting for an email, its been 3 days Ticket number 3981984.

I cannot believe that when I switched to Proton.me a couple of weeks ago, that I would have to pay £4.00 a month to create a new folder in my mailbox. Unbelievable!
FURTHER TO PROTON'S RESPONSE BELOW..... SINCE WHEN HAS A 'NEW FOLDER' BEEN AN ADDITIONAL FEATURE?...... YOU'RE A BIT OF A JOKE

Proton owns SimpleLogin, so I hold them responsible for what happened: I was billed on Sept 6, 2025 for a yearly term that started Sept 7. I canceled within 20 minutes on Sept 6 — before the new service period began — but Proton refused a refund, citing a blanket “no refunds” policy.
For a company that promotes itself as “ethical” and “user-first,” this is unacceptable. It’s not about the $30, it’s about trust. After this experience, I’ve canceled my subscription and will not return.
In response to Proton's reply: I’ve already contacted Proton support (ticket #660668). The only response I received was that no refund would be issued, despite the fact that I canceled on Sept 6 before the new term began on Sept 7. All evidence has been provided, including PayPal’s transaction log.

No access to my mail account.
A new password has been proved and used several times before it was stored outside of the pc.
The company doesn't give answer.
If they answered in past it was without content or
banal.

I started to use Proton mail, everything was good, I registered my accounts and changed to Proton mail because thought its secure. But then in one day I can't log in and there message that account is blocked by abusive system...I created tickets and get only automative response, In answer to them I explained every situation clear , that maybe someone sit on the same VPN as me and your system see that one IP have multiple accounts? But they never reply to me and just ignore. My money is stuck because I can't confirm any actions and withdraw of money with email code, because Proton system auto blocked me and ignore...Ticket number 3933940

My account was immediately shut down after creating it. Apparently, it was flagged through their "abuse detection system". I've had that account for about a minute before that message appeared. So, to be clear, this company is accusing me of being a fraud, criminal and abusive. This is not only extremely insulting and hurtful, it's also defamation. Never in my life has a company accused me of heinous activities because I tried to use their product.
Also, please spare me your AI generated answer. I could not care less what you have to say. I don't want to know how to solve the problem anymore (already deleted my account and never creating a new one), I don't care if you think my account ban was "warranted"( I know it isn't because I'm not actually an abusive criminal like you suggested) and I also don't care if you've acknowledged my review at all (don't want to have any more contact with you).
I'll be sure to let my friends and my colleagues know how this company has treated me, though. I wish you a swift bankruptcy. Cheers.

I am a Proton Unlimited paying customer, but my account is currently broken due to two critical issues:
Dashboard shows “15 addresses out of 1” → I cannot enable, delete, or create aliases. This means I am currently losing incoming emails.
Cannot upgrade to Duo: “Unknown account for organization with id: 3545658 for billing platform: 1”.
I opened ticket [3955328] with screenshots, but support only replied with copy-paste irrelevant answers, and then stopped responding.
➡️ This is unacceptable for a paid plan that promises priority support. I am losing important emails every day.
I need Proton to:
Reset my alias quota immediately.
Fix the corrupted organization ID so I can upgrade to Duo.

How can a company that claims to be concerned with privacy ignore Linux users? After all these years still no desktop clients and drive integration at all.

I think it is great. Works as good as Gmail and it is safer.

I only have their free tier of service, but so far it has been great. The app loads fast on my Iphone and the spam protection seems to be better than Gmail.

So to start with I've been with protonmail from almost day1.
Today I changed to yearly billing, the money came out of my credit card, and guess what it still tells me I have an invoice to pay.
Upgrading to yearly billing should have paid that invoice.
They still want more money and there stupid billing system should have stopped the yearly billing upgrade.
It did NOT STOP the upgrade, took my money and now I have NO service.
Considering I have paid for everything in full.
Beyond ridiculous and pathetic,DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.
They take your money and in turn don't provide the service you have paid for.
I would give 0 stars if I could.
Total scammers.

The support is very meh. The product is amazing. But because its so hard to get in contact with a support team or develepors. Its hard to give feed back or reach for help.
You should also add a auto lock setting for the browser extention. If I have used my pc and unlocked the extention with my pincode. It stays unlocked even if I go out of proton and leave my pc, wich is a pretty big security risk, consider adding an option for that. Had to make the review to get it said. Because there is no other place I can contact you.

After paying for 2 years I now received an invoice that does not include my name, address or tax ID anymore. I requested customer service to please issue a legal document and I got no answer in 3 weeks. I requested it via PayPal, the payment platform, and right away they blocked my account so now I've paid almost 200€ and I can't access my personal and work email, all passwords and lots of documents in drive. Customer service is useless and unwilling to help so basically I have paid for something that I don't have acess too: fraud.

I signed up for ProtonMail thinking I was entering the Fort Knox of email services. Turns out, it’s more like a shed with a padlock made of spaghetti.
Their support team? Imagine emailing into a black hole and occasionally getting a copy-paste reply from a bot that clearly didn’t read your message. My “urgent” ticket was apparently sent to the Museum of Unanswered Questions.

completely messed me up
- new info
they responded to me saying they sent me numerous emails saying recovery email link it to get information and i link those emails but guess what happens i get alerts "youve been send a message at ( email ) click here to get linked to it" but ill have to log in but when i decide to log in it says " this account has been suspended due to our automated anti abuse detection" google has never done this to me and they say its to protect their ip from 3rd party services which i completely disagree with.. its absolutely insane how they wanted ME to link an email just for the email to do absolutely nothing in this case so i dont even know what to do but these all had precious information i cant take back since ill need a verification email and they wont even let me access that which is insane.. i dont know what to do at this point i mean they messed me up good
i recommend NOBODY to use this email service and if you ARE using id recommend you to transfer all your information from this email provider.
proton if your reading this just let me get 1 hour back into those emails as they had my kids info all linked on that and its really precious to them and they cant access their accounts anymore so if i had one hour to transfer it and save their accounts ive responded to the ticket and opened a new one.. heres the ticket number 3896183

i had numerous emails all with important info.. i created 2 tickets for 2 of my most important accounts and wish to get all my accounts restored.. otherwise my review will stay at one the active tickets request numbers are
