Beware of this company - they cut corners and tried to charge £800 to install seven smoke alarms

The job was to look at my fuse box which kept fusing the lights, and to install seven smoke alarms in a second flat, also in Putney. The staff member spent about 20 minutes in my flat without really solving the problem and then about 30 minutes in the second flat. I was then asked to do electronic payment at the site for the amount of £468.00, which I settled.

It was only after I returned to the property, my contractor and I noticed that the electrician had screwed on the new smoke alarm tops to the old and dirty bases of the existing smoke alarms. Half of the new smoke alarms were still sitting in the boxes.

I messaged the head of Putney Electricians (Tomasz Zdunski) about the incomplete job. He said that if I wanted the bases installed too, it would cost another £240 +VAT for his electrician to return and do it (via text message). Tomasz' other justifications for not fitting the whole smoke alarm were the following:

1) It will take too long to install the whole smoke alarm.
2)That screwing in the whole smoke alarm would cause damage to the ceiling.
3) In order to affix the whole smoke alarm, it will cost me an additional £240 + VAT (£288 in total).

In response, I informed them that the service I paid for was to install the smoke alarms - not half of the smoke alarms. This company, in total, tried to charge me £756 inc VAT) to affix seven smoke alarms.

Tomasz stopped responding to my messages. It was only when I sent him an email summarising the details of the day and asked for an invoice that he agreed to send over an electrician again to complete the full job.

Putney Electricians or Building Vision London (which seems to be another company Tomasz is head of) say they charge £80+VAT per hour on their website but none of that married up with the prices they tried to charge me.

Not sure I would trust them with any light electrical work, let alone a whole construction project. Avoid!
