Great product. Opaque purchasing.

Well firstly Quadlock is an absolutely fantastic product, that I’ve been using on my phones over many years. I have multiple mounts in the truck, boats, bike and on a tripod. It’s also saved my phones from destruction many times. And I’ve always had great customer service too. One time I suggested a ring to carry the phone and it was revealed it was already invented, also with a bottle opener and stand which I hadn’t even considered! So I bought one for me, and then my wife, and then she lost hers and so I bought a third, and then she found it again.

So the product itself gets 5 stars. But this time I got an unexpected customs bill of 23% of the total order. I’m in Malaysia, Quad Lock Asia is in Singapore. Had I read the small print (terms and conditions, which no one ever reads of course, apart from lawyers, and instead take it on good faith) I wouldn’t have initially thought it was an attempted scam.

I’m not particularly bothered about the import duty and would have probably ordered anyway. I’m actually far more bothered by the surprise. If the website is Quadlock Asia and not Quadlock Singapore, then I think it should have been made very clear during the ordering process that this could happen. I shouldn’t have to go back through terms and conditions to uncover this. It’s true that some people may not purchase if they are properly informed, but if you are looking for a strong customer relationship, which is the core of good business, then being open about this at the time of order, I think is very important.

So it should be written in the cart at the time of placing the order “you are in Malaysia, we are in Singapore, you might have to pay 23% duty” or whatever the amount. I feel that this was opaque. Hence 2 stars and not 5, which you really deserve.

Cheers, Paul

Hi there, thank you for the feedback and for being such a loyal fan over the years, that means the world to us. We’re really sorry the customs charge came as an unpleasant surprise and while we have zero control over what carriers or local governments decide to charge during travel, we do empathise. We have information available on our website covering these topics and we always recommend double-checking all the details before proceeding to checkout, just to be on the safe side. Cheers!
