We’re sorry to read your review and understand this has been a stressful situation for you. However, we feel it’s important to clarify the facts and provide full context.
At the time of booking, you were provided with an initial estimate of £1495 + VAT, which covered engine removal, dismantling, assessment, rebuild and refitting of your existing unit. As explained, this figure was subject to strip-down inspection and dependent on whether key components could be reused or reconditioned.
Regarding the initial delay, this was due to our recovery driver suffering a sudden gallbladder attack, which required hospital treatment and left him temporarily unable to work. This was an unforeseen medical emergency, and we kept you informed at the time.
Following a full inspection, your engine was found to have extensive internal damage, including (but not limited to):
* Cylinder liner damage requiring rebore across multiple cylinders
* Piston skirt damage requiring full replacement
* A scored oil pump
* Metal contamination affecting internal components such as camshaft solenoids
* Turbocharger failure, with oil contamination and excessive play in the propeller shaft requiring replacement
* Intercooler filled with oil
* Injector faults, including cylinder 4 injector requiring replacement and the remaining injectors requiring bench testing
* Additional failures across seals, cooling components, and ancillary parts
This reflects the **true condition of the engine once dismantled**, which unfortunately went far beyond what could reasonably be covered under the initial estimate.
We would also like to clarify that:
* The original estimate **included diagnostics, labour, and refitting only**, not replacement parts where components were beyond reuse
* It had been agreed via email that estimates may change following inspection
*It had also been via email that if payments are not received within 3 days of the engine report being received, the vehicle may be moved into storage and daily storage charges will apply
In addition, once the engine had been fully dismantled and the extent of the internal damage identified, it would not have been practical or appropriate to reassemble the engine in its previous state. As a result, all components were carefully wrapped and placed in the rear of the vehicle to allow for collection without causing further damage to any components.
Despite the difficulties in this case, after extended communication, we made efforts to significantly reduce the storage charges as a gesture of goodwill.
We appreciate that unexpected costs are frustrating, but the revised quotation was based entirely on the extent of mechanical failure identified during inspection, not a change of position.
