UEH Review Misapplied – Requesting Documents That Don’t Exist
I am currently dealing with a serious issue involving a university’s financial aid office misapplying the Unusual Enrollment History (UEH) review process.
They are requesting transcripts for the current award year, even though the UEH review clearly applies only to the previous four completed award years. This is not an opinion—this is explicitly outlined in their own documentation and the Federal Student Aid Handbook.
For the 2025–2026 FAFSA, the correct review period is:
• 2021–2022
• 2022–2023
• 2023–2024
• 2024–2025
Despite this, they are asking for transcripts from the 2025–2026 award year, which is still in progress. That makes no sense. You cannot evaluate whether academic credit was earned in a year that has not even finished yet.
To make it worse, they are requesting transcripts from a school I have not even attended yet, meaning the documents they are demanding literally do not exist.
This is not just a minor mistake—it is a complete failure to apply the UEH process correctly. The purpose of UEH is to review past academic activity tied to prior financial aid usage, not to create artificial barriers by asking for impossible documentation.
I have already tried resolving this directly through email and phone, but the issue remains unresolved.
This kind of mismanagement delays financial aid, blocks enrollment, and places unnecessary stress on students who are simply trying to continue their education.
Students should not have to correct their school’s understanding of federal financial aid rules.
If you encounter a UEH review, verify everything yourself—because the guidance you receive may not be accurate.
