Surprise, surprise, another remote work site that "doesn't hire in my area." Then tries to refer me to Outlier.ai, another site that doesn't hire in my area.

Remotasks.
Employment Fraud and Misrepresentation: Among many other issues at hand. When I applied they ended up offering me a role and in order to accept I had to agree to work 20 hours or more per week to accept the role. Or I would be removed from the opportunity. I accepted the role and made adjustments to my life to be able to tend to the obligation. Not even 1 week into working I was left without any work at all. I have passed every test and they have been playing a lot of games. I am located in the USA and have heard a lot about Scale AI, Remotasks, and Smart Ecosystem Inc. From what I have determined this place lacks the basic fundamentals. They have lied to me from the beginning and have been very deceiving. They make a lot of empty promises that never happen and give the run around for days, weeks, or months. What they do to people is very sad and...
I am blown away that they removed their Remotasks Google account so you can no longer leave a review. > but I have been posting the direct link on their LinkedIn Pages :-)
What they do to workers is wrong and they know it. I have so many issues it is almost impossible to put them all on this review. My advice to anyone considering this company for work... To avoid it at all cost. It is a complete JOKE. They bring you in telling you one thing and you will quickly find that they are not honest and just tell you what you want to hear. I am more than willing to update my review accordingly if things change. I do not see that happening.
I was MISLED about Remotasks/False Hourly Rate
A SCALE AI recruiter found me on Linkedin and sent the following message:
"I hope this message finds you well!
Scale AI, and our affiliate partner, Remotasks, are working on a number of exciting projects to train Artificial Intelligence systems and LLMs (large language models). I came across your profile and thought your travel expertise would make a great fit for a project I’m staffing for!
As a member of our project team, you'll have the chance to:
- Earn supplemental income
- Work flexibly, whenever and wherever you want
- Interact with Al models and teach them about your area of expertise
If you're interested, please let me know."
I responded to the above message and stated that I don't know anything about AI, but would like to know more about the job.
The recruiter replied and said, "With your travel expertise, you're good to go." She included a link to the job description of tasking at Remotasks. The pay stated $25 per hour. The link also included the application.
The hourly wage of $25 per hour prompted me to apply. To apply for the job, Remotasks requires your DL photo front and back and a video of your face.
I applied. I did the hours of required screening tests. Afterwards, I received an email stating I would hear from the Remotasks in 7 business days. I NEVER heard from them. I also had received an email welcoming me to a travel & transportation team to do travel tasks, but the link was broken/voided. I sent a message to the person on the team and received no response. I reached out three times to three different "support" email addresses at Remotasks and Slate, each response stated that they don't handle my "issues." I sent a message to the "RECRUITER." She replied with two emails for "support."
Remotasks now has photos of my DL front and back, and my image on video. This is concerning since it's an AI company. Remotasks requested this information BEFORE taking and passing the screening tests. It's all for nothing. It's a scam. The $25 hourly wage rate is a scam. Based on other complaints about Remotasks, nobody makes $25 per hour "tasking." I was blatantly misled with the hourly wage.
Under my Remotasks account, when I click "Start Tasking," it states NO TASKS AVAILABLE.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS SO-CALLED COMPANY.
Very bad customer service
Very bad customer service. They don't help you with your issues, they send you off to their site to look for your own help. If you tell them your issue isn't amongst the list of things and you're unable to write a ticket because you don't have an id number yet, they don't respond to your email. I keep emailing them because that's all you could do; you can't talk to anyone. My issue is one that is actually serious so that's why I haven't given up. But trust me I would just "walk" away if not for this particular problem.
Legit but horrible customer service
They are legit I've been using them since 2021? I've made a total of $243.21. When I first started using them I constantly had tasks but then it went sorta viral on tiktok and that's when I went MONTHS (end of 2021 to mid-end of 2022) without any tasks as well as many other users. Finally got some tasks a couple months back and made a little over $100 then. All of the sudden you have to verify your identity by uploading a drivers license or state ID which I am fine with. Except it will NOT take either one at all. I've tried it multiple times and still nothing. I've contacted customer service MULTIPLE TIMES for this the last and most recent time I just gave up. After a whole MONTH all they had to tell me was to complete the task, the whole reason I reached out to them was because I COULDN'T. Not to mention my cousin also used this it's been months and they still haven't given her her $175 she's also contacted customer service multiple times and each and every time they just told her to be patient. She was supposed to recieve that at the beginning of 2023 it is now August of 2023. Don't waste your time, try something else to make money and most definitely DO NOT try to contact customer service they will not help you at all. They need to get some customer service agents that know what they're doing.
Absolute scam
Absolute scam.
I found them on upwork, we signed a "contract" and I started doing tasks. No training, no nothing.
I did tasks for 5 days straight, and then they ended my contract, with no further explanation why.
Credibility/ Trustworthiness of Remotasks
I strongly believe this is not a legit service for anyone. The evidence suggests to me they are doing things they aren't supposed to be doing. I feel obligated, as a respectable and trusted individual, to share this information with the public.
Don't waste your time.
I signed up for Remotasks around May 2023 and got stuck in an AWFUL project so I decided to put a pause on it, especially after reading comments on their Slack page about how reviewers would often poorly rate you and some people were getting kicked off projects, sometimes for weeks at a time and only after continually contacting support would they finally get assigned back on a project. Since I didn't like the project I was assigned to, I thought it was best to put a pause on it until I was assigned to a different one (better to pause than get kicked off). Well, I logged back into Remotasks in July 2023 after getting an email for an incentive to complete a certain number of tasks in 2 days. I thought "Why not" and saw that I was assigned to a different project. After doing a couple of tasks on the new project, I was really happy because the tasks in that project were very fun. I completed more than what was requested for the incentive within the timeframe and stopped. My reviewer rated my tasks very poorly and didn't give any feedback on what I could have possibly done wrong (the tasks were short and very straightforward). I couldn't believe what I was doing so wrong for my accuracy to go from the 80s all the way down to 11% after they reviewed a couple of my tasks. After my tasks were reviewed, none of them had any feedback and I was still at 11% and kicked off the project and did not receive the incentive. it's August 2023, and I have sent 2 complaints about the inaccuracy; all I got was an unhelpful, generic response. Remotasks itself is not very reliable and the way their system works is extremely pathetic. The reviewers are often complained about and I see why after my experience. Their customer service is awful and unhelpful and the pay just isn't worth it. They won't pay the incentives or the referral bonuses and I truly feel they plummeted by accuracy so they wouldn't have to pay the incentive. Remotasks is unreliable and untrustworthy. To sum them up, I would say Remotasks=Digital Sweatshop.
I Was Patient But Disappointed
I hate giving bad reviews but I’ve finally decided to cut the cord with them. I first signed up in late March and the experience was decent. Training was pretty simple and not time consuming. The first week, I didn’t get paid for the bonus for training, so I submitted the Google form and waited. I never actually heard from anyone via email or slack, but I did get the money the next week. Definitely thought that was kinda sketchy. I only really ever got to do a few weeks worth of work though. After that for several months it was constantly being moved from project to project, completing new unpaid “trainings” that were only slightly different than before, and waiting around for work because the queue was ALWAYS empty. Finally at the beginning of July, I got an email about a whole new training for a new project. It sounded like they were sort of reconfiguring things and I was hopeful for a change. I completed the several hours long training that day, since thats what you had to do get the bonus this time, and got an email thanking me for completing it and that I would get a follow-up within seven days for further instructions. Surprise surprise, the email never came. I checked for a week or so, and it said my training was still being assessed. This morning, over a month later and I had basically given up, I got an email saying that I needed to finish the training within 48 hrs. So despite the previous email saying everything looked good and just hang in there while they look things over, I thought okay, maybe there’s just one more tiny thing I missed or something. I log in, and it basically wants me to take the training ALL OVER AGAIN. So I’m done. I’m not wasting half my weekend doing that training again, probably only to receive the same result. I have no idea what happened, if they just lost my assessments from before, and I don’t care anymore. They’re unorganized, communication is next to non-existent, and as one can see from other reviews, have serious issues with pay as well. Sorry for the long review but just wanted ya’ll to see I was patient, I gave them a chance despite the countless bad reviews. I would NOT recommend working here. The company needs to take a serious look at all of their policies and procedures, whether it’s pay, training, or workflow. Because right now, it’s a hot mess.

100% Legit. I worked here for almost a year. It helps me a lot ✅
Modern day slavery has a new name... Remotasks!.
People all over Africa and Asia are being cheated and robbed by a company called Remotasks, based in the USA. Their business model is based on cheating workers out of their pay, by falsifying the accuracy of work, deliberately holding back payments, and closing down accounts without reason and without settling outstanding balances. They are also denying a basic human right, in particular, people's ability to a fair judicial process to defend themselves against exploitation. Other comments, on this site, testify to the fact they regularly shut down accounts that, combined, must equate to hundreds of thousands of dollars a month. An accepted definition of 'modern-day slavery' is when an individual is exploited by others for personal or commercial gain. The modern-day slave is paid a pittance, or not paid at all. Overseas workers are denied access to the law, because Remotasks operate outside the USA jurisdiction and avoid all accountability even when they exploite workers. It's easier to exploit remote workers from 3rd world countries. That is basically all you need to know to understand you should stay away from Remotasks.
Head over to FB and look for the group 'Remotasks Shame Page' to post your experience and reach a wider audience.
The rest of this article is a deep dive into the methods employed by Remotasks to exploit remote workers including me. I have lost count of the number of hours I have spent training and practicing on their 'tasks' over a 4-month period, but I would guess it's between 60 - 80 hours, all of which are unpaid. The amount of hours I spent completing tasks, for this AI-centered business, probably amounts to 200 - 250 hours for which I received less than $20. The scam Remotasks have perfected goes like this, when you complete a 'task' it has to be 'reviewed' by someone else for accuracy before you are paid. Any tasks that haven't been reviewed are 'pending' and as such remain unpaid. The scam is they use the data collected from completed work, but leaving the status of the task as pending, so they don't have to pay anyone. I say this because I know for a fact there is never a shortage of remote workers to review pending tasks. Some workers sit for hours waiting for such work, and if they claim differently they are lying. Only a couple of weeks ago I worked for almost 18 hours straight, because the tasks kept coming, I expected to see $15+ on my account but was shocked to see only $1.79 had been credited to my account. I immediately checked the review page on my account dashboard, I was dismayed to see that over 80% of the work I'd completed was 'pending'. Those pending tasks are still unpaid and now they have shut down my account, with no explanation, I have no proof. Another scam they pull is to downgraded your completed tasks from $0.05 to $0.02 or $0.01 by claiming poor accuracy. But really it just another technique Remotasks uses to cheats its workers out of paying them. When I challenged the incorrect 'reviews' they were corrected in my favor.
One week later they got their revenge by shut down my account without notice, nor did they settling an the outstanding balance or hundreds of pending tasks. Remotasks are blatantly robbing people, and you will be next if you sign up. The sad truth is most workers don't challenge these deliberate acts of theft. This tactic of holding back people's wages is widespread, just read the hundreds of statements by other former workers on this site, that have been ripped off by Remotasks. I sent several emails to various departments asking politely for help to access my account. After a while, a reply came back stating it must be your internet speed or your PC that has caused the account to shut down, which is complete rubbish. On reflection the support staff send you round in circles for a while, then they send reply's that twist or confuse the situation and then they abruptly stopped replying to your emails. They have made it perfectly obvious I wont be getting the money they owe me. If you have suffered a similar fate head over to FB and find my Group page 'Remotasks Shame Page' and add you experience there as well. Help me raise this issue all over social media to end this exploitation. Thank you in advance.
Fraud company
So I caught a few error codes in my browser that suggested an XSS attack. Specifically I was having slowed keystrokes as if my data was leaking which is why I checked my browser console. I reported this to Remotasks thinking that it would be investigated and I was banned. They also stated that all my data is lost and I cannot get paid. Remotasks is part of Smart Ecosystem Inc that is owned partially as an affiliate by Scale AI. Also during the 1st week of working I was provided with stolen data to train Google products and some other stolen data. Just because data is public for benefit of the people does not mean that private corporations can use the data freely. Google is being sued now in California for this. Remotasks is a waste of time. Scammers!
Was good while it lasted
Started working for remotask starting this year pay was good, some delays but was paid correctly. Got promoted as a reviewer after 2 months. However they kick you out of the projects without noticed at all. Need to wait few weeks to get another one. At first i was fine with that because its just a side job. But end of May I got kickout of a project again without notice or reason. Emailed, ask the admin no replies. Until now July still no project no responds.
Do not pay you for all your work
Do not do any tasks for these people. I did 62 Dollars worth of work and only saw about 20 Dollars of that in the end. The rest of my tasks are being held and have been that way for weeks.
No communication, no apologies and no pay for the majority of my work. I cannot stress enough to not invest any time here. I wish I had not.
Scammers
I worked in remotasks since 2018, at first they were soo good, paying up to $50 per task, I don’t know what happened in 2020 but they change to a Ponzi scheme, they close your account once they see a consistency of high earnings. Too fake and scamish.
Scam.i spent 3 hrs on assessment s that…
Scam.i spent 3 hrs on assessment s that I got 0 money for.
Stop processing tasks
Remotasks stopped processing my tasks and did not assign me new ones. I had made $200.00 USD my first week. The second week, Remotask did not process the 150 tasks I completed. The tasks have been under pending for nearly two weeks now. I do not think I will be paid for that completed work. Customer service is also not much help.
I tasked for Remotasks from May 18th…
I tasked for Remotasks from May 18th 2023 to early June. I accumulated around 500 dollars of pay and I couldn't believe my eyes so I waited for the first pay period to roll around to see if they actually paid me. Many people claim they get paid weekly so I was hopeful.
The first week without pay I understood. I asked around and people said it is normal when you first start to not get paid the first week or two.
Week two no pay.
Week three no pay.
Before I know it, it's early July and here I am still not paid. I've submitted 3 tickets. One they closed instantly without listening to me. The second I demanded to stay open for me to explain and they requested screenshots for proof as they claim they paid me. I think I'd know if I had been.
The second ticket doesn't respond so I made a third and they requested about 15 different things to prove I hadn't been paid. I happily screenshotted every task, video-d my screen with Loom, and they even asked to see my Paypal.
Aside from coming across as unprofessional they even went so far as to seemingly blame me for not being paid by claiming it must be on my end. Meanwhile my dashboard clearly shows every task is pending as well as 500 dollars of earnings pending. No idea how they figure that's my fault.
I still have both tickets open and haven't been paid to this day and there's no help in sight. If there was a rating lower than 1 star that's what they'd get from me. Unprofessional and even criminal company if you ask me.
If I could I would give a negative…%^&$ Remotask
If I could I would give a negative number. they definitely do not care about or treat people well at all. every answer is a form letter that says the same crap. no help whatsoever. they think we are stupid.
Unbelievable insolence and devaluation of human labor.
Unbelievable insolence and devaluation of human labor. If that's the future, I don't want any part of it. "Remotasks" needs cockroaches, not humans. The pay is not in dollars per hour, but in cents per hour. The interface is unprofessional. The tasks are numbing and stupid. The work mostly revolves around helping train some AI to put all of us out of work for good down the road. To add insult to injury, they can boot you out whenever they please for whatever made up reason, even if you're good at "tasking".
I'd recommend ditch digging over this anytime.
Just wasted many hours on a new project…
Just wasted many hours on a new project for Walmart products. The training is Not clear and the system keeps failing my responses without any reasonable explanation as to why. Avoid this company, they don't pay for the hours you need to spend to learn the system and then there's no guarantee of work once you've completed it anyway. A complete and total waste of time.
