Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

For your safety and sanity, please avoid using this company (HOMEASSIST Repairs and Servicing). Their customer service is appalling, and they knowingly employ incompetent engineers to deal with potentially dangerous appliances.

Their website boasts "9.79/10 from 1055+ reviews"on Checkatrade, but if you click on he link you find that they are no longer listed there.

They are permanently on answerphone - you can never actually talk to anyone. For emergencies they recommend sending an email.

When you try to submit a complaint on their website it says, "could not submit complaint".

My combi boiler had a small leak. Due to the terrible customer service and incompetent engineer my wife and I were without hot water and heating for two weeks. The company also cost me hundreds of pounds in lost earnings as I am self-employed and spent so much time waiting for engineers to arrive, never at a time when promised.

The engineer spent an initial hour being unable to find the source of the leak. Then, when putting everything back together he knocked something and thought he had found the source of the leak, and he "fixed" it. I paid the bill, despite thinking £78 was excessive for 1 hours work with no parts or materials.

However, the boiler was still leaking. He returned and found that it was a simple nut/bolt issue, which he replaced but then over tightened. Things deteriorated from there. He cross threaded an olive and had to order a new one (more delays). He flooded our bathroom. He reconnected the controls back to front so that when on minimum setting the water was boiling hot. This was after days of having no hot water so I had jumped in the shower and suffered a mild scolding.

He then got water in the PCP and had to order a new one (more delays), but he hadn't actually needed a new one as a fuse had merely blown in the old one.

All communications during this time were initiated by me. I eventually lost patience with this engineer and insisted that the company send a competent engineer to fix the problem. He did, within half an hour.

He helpfully explained that the engineer who had caused havoc was, "new to the industry", had been "busted down to apprentice" due to his incompetence, was incapable of carrying out even simple instructions such as, "investigate, report, don't try to fix" and who "cannot even hold a pair of grips".

A couple of days later the boiler stopped working completely. I asked the company to attend, but "under no circumstances" to send the original engineer. They were due to turn up in the morning. This then became mid day. Mid day came and went so I asked for an eta. The response was 5-5.20 pm. The engineer eventually arrived at 7pm, and it was the same guy who had caused the devastation in the first place. I had wasted yet another day waiting pointlessly at home and then the company felt happy to treat me with utter contempt by sending the engineer I had banned from my home and who they knew to be a dangerous liability.

I politely asked him to leave, 'phoned another company who responded in 10 minutes and had my boiler fixed 15 minutes later.

I sent the company an email detailing my complaint. They have not responded. At no point during the 2 weeks of mayhem has any member of the company contacted me to apologise or explain.
