Last year I bought a beautiful rhododendron from this company. It was quite expensive but gorgeous. I planted it in ericaceous soil as instructed. It bloomed and was wonderful. This year it has died. I have lots of rhododendrons and azaleas which are all fine. I sent photos plus pics of my other plants to the company. They said I planted it too deeply. I asked if they could replace it as it cost a lot of money. They said they could give me free delivery on my next purchase, as a gesture of goodwill. I won’t be buying from them again sadly. Very disappointed ☹️

I purchased an expensive rhododendron from Millais nurseries in May 2024 for my wife’s birthday. I followed all the planting advice which included soaking the rootball before planting as the plant had been with the courier for nearly a week. I planted the rhododendron alongside other yakushimanum rhododendrons in our woodland garden with ericaseous compost. The plant was kept watered and was well looked after despite this the plant deteriorated and eventually died in December. I contacted Millais nurseries who asked for a photograph of the rhododendron, which I sent they responded by saying I had planted it too deeply. Two friends who are also gardeners said it was planted perfectly.
I have purchased rhododendrons from Millais nurseries before and have not experienced any problems, I am extremely upset by their response.

This is my second time buying from the company. Bought 11 rhodedendron rabatz last year out of season but all super healthy and all survived and flowered this year. I have bought 7.5l azalea Johanna AGM and azalea orange AGM 3 litre just past flowering season and again delighted with quality. All plants packaged well and delivered promptly. Communication excellent.

Ordered 3 dwarf rhododendrons from Millais (Wee Bee, Ginny Gee and Ptarmigan) and they are all healthy, robust and growing strongly. Good size and shape. Well packaged and prompt delivery. Extremely happy customer.

Bought quite a few plants of Millais Nurseries over the last year or so,always been very happy with the plants,strong and very healthy rhodys,had a slight issue on size with one of the plants on my latest order,after contact with them they very kindly sent me another bigger plant and free of charge,the delivery is also very quick and well packaged,would highly recommend.

I keep returning to this company because their plants are such good quality, they package them well and they arrive looking perfect.
Good sturdy plants. I would definitely recommend.

Amazing plants. Mature and healthy, lots of buds and excellent specimens. Highly recommend. The plants are doing amazingly well already, the colours are just sensational. Well packaged and delivered overnight unlike many other companies. You won’t be disappointed.

Four plants received in perfect condition today - top quality plants - highly recommended. And a huge thank you for my R. Fragrantissimum after losing my 20 year old plant in the horrid 2022/3 winter.

I have just received my first order from Millais - a fabulous quality camellia . It always makes me a little nervous ordering plants on line but I would not hesitate in recommending this company. The customer service, plant quality and delivery process has been excellent .

The plants from this company are very healthy. However their delivery company can be better.

Had queries about camellia plants and was so impressed with how promptly they responded! The two plants I received were exactly to description, well packaged and very healthy with lots of buds. Cannot be more pleased!

Ordered a Rhododendron Catawbiense Boursault 5L and it came within a matter of 2 or 3 days! The plant is very healthy looking with plenty of buds for next spring, definitely worth the money. Mine came at about 40cm tall and 60cm or so wide if anyone is interested in a rough size of the plants although this may vary. Also received a £5 voucher for a future order.

We bought 2 Rhododendrons and 2 Azaleas 9 months ago from this nursery. We followed all the planting advise partial shade, sheltered area planting with Ericaceous compost and the recommended plant feed at the correct times of the year. Despite our dedication to these plants the 2 Rhododendrons have died (one died within 4-6 months) Both in different spots in the garden. Both in partial shade and sheltered. We couldn’t have done any more to ensure their success. The site states that both of these plants will thrive in any garden. When I contacted Millais about the plants. They gave me a list of reasons why they haven’t thrived. None of these reasons were pointed out as potential hazards on their site for example, instead of planting just under a meter away from the fence it would be advised to plant 1.5 meters plus away from the fence to allow adequate air flow. Do most average gardens have 2-3 meter beds I wonder..... This information was not offered to us before planting. When asked if they would honour their warranty of replacing plants that die of natural causes in under a year (ours died in under 9 months) they said they wouldn’t be able to honour the warranty as there were suspected reasons like the PH of the soil not being optimal and air flow etc. I wonder what would constitute the plant dying of natural causes in their eyes? I think there will always be a justifiable reason why they won’t honour their warranty. We came to this company because they specialise in these plants. We hoped we would get a decent plant (which we paid well over the odds for) and the guidance required to ensure success. We will not be buying from this company again.

Ordered my rhododendron on a Tuesday & it arrived here in Ireland on a Friday. Beautiful condition,lovely & green & full of buds. Couldn't be happier. Great service!

Excellent plants. Good sizes and very healthy. Well packaged. Would thoroughly recommend.

I have emailed twice and again today regarding the lack of a second flowering of the Bloom Champion Azaleas that I purchased Millais. I have been asked to wait but there is still no sign of a second flowering. The reason I purchased these was specifically for the extended flowering period. They have not lived up to the description on their website. RHS description states:- Flowering period: April to May, then again in July to September.
I planted them in a mix of new lime free topsoil, ericaceous compost and grit and fed them with Westland Gro-Sure Ericaceous slow release Plant Food Granules and mulched with ericaceous compost and always water using rain water (I have a 1700 litre underground rainwater tank). I have done as much as possible to ensure the right conditions. I have given a lot of my time and effort to no avail. I am very disappointed.
I have requested a full refund of the purchase price as they have not lived up to the description.
Update September 2021. Refund refused last year. No second flowering this year either.
Update December 2022 no second flowering this year either.

My beautiful healthy azalea arrived swiftly and very well packaged in a strong box. The gift card option is a nice touch, thank you millais! I am extremely pleased with my purchase and I will be recommending Millais nurseries to my family and friends.
