Poor service from the older staff

Poor service from the older staff. Lacks any customer service and blurts out comments without thinking regarding a return. The staff member looked unbothered and then spoke rudely and loudly.. This has now led me to stop my custom.

Hi Sally,

As a local Business, we pride ourselves on delivering proactive and personal customer service.

Your review is certainly not we wish to achieve and what the ethic of our business stands for.

We are truly sorry for the experience you have received in one of our stores.

If you would be so kind, please do email info@rightway.ltd.uk with some more information including what store/date and approx. time this instance occurred.

This will allow us to look into this further and prevent any future occurrence.

To that end, your feedback was very much welcomed, despite your underwhelming experience.

Thank you for your time sharing this and helping us to improve further.

Kind Regards

Rightway Chester (New relocated…

Rightway Chester (New relocated building) - As Rightway has been our go to shop for all our DIY needs, we headed to the new relocated shop in Boughton, Chester and was shocked to find we couldn’t park anywhere, it was a Tuesday afternoon, the store was empty except us and yet we couldn’t find a parking space, we almost just drove through and headed to B&Q, this is a shame as it deserves the custom and yet if there is no customer parking, there will be be no customers.

Hi Ceri
Thank you for your very fair comments.
We do have a Car Park at the new site , due to the one-way system the main entrance is off Tarvin Road.
Currently we are experiencing some issue with people who are not customers parking in our Car Park and leaving their cars/vans for hours. We are actively managing this and hope to resolve over the coming weeks.
There is also a small Council Car Park behind the store off Christleton Road which is relatively inexpensive at present.
We do hope you are able to park in our Car Park next time as we appreciate all the Customers who have followed us to Tarvin Road together with all the new Customers that have recently discovered us.

Great first experience

I phoned Rightway (Neston) to query about an online order I wanted to place. The young lady I spoke to was very helpful and gave me the number for Charlie at the New Brighton store. I rang Charlie and he gave the information I required and said if I put the order in, it could be with me within a few days. My paint turned up the very next day. Thank you Charlie and the lady at Neston who put me in touch. I can recommend this company for customer service. First time used and won't be the last.

Appalling lack of respect from the…

Appalling lack of respect from the manager.
Paid for my purchase at 15.51 on the 27/7/24 , by card as normal but again ! had to pay contactless when I would have preferred to pay with pin.
Your new card machine appears , certainly in my case, to simply only work with contactless payments .
I tried to explain this to your manager and pointed out that I had a problem in my last purchase.
The other guy with her remembered that with respect, she just treated me as if I was stupid .
I have been shopping with Rightway Heswall regularly for 14 years and do not deserve to be patronised by their manager.

Great local DIY shop & staff 👍

I work as a handyman around Hoylake and the general Wirral area oddjobb.org so I am used to going to a lot of the DIY stores, but the staff in Rightways Hoylake are super friendly, very helpful yet not intrusive. The selection of products for decorating etc is very wide and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend :)

I am a regular visitor to Rightway stores, but especially the Hoylake store, and on every occasion, I enter that store I am greeted with a smile, and “can I help you sir“. They are quick to escort me to the area of the shop for which I’m searching and advise me on subjects of lots of different DIY subjects. it is a pleasure to shop there and rest assured that I will be going back again and again!

Colour Run product did not work

Visited the Neston store to purchase a colour run product, which did not work at all. I returned to the shop for a refund and was advised that this was not possible and to contact the manufacturer. Very disappointed, after being a regular customer for many years. The product is not fit for purpose.

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rightway Frodsham

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rightway Frodsham
Visited my local Frodsham store today on off chance I could purchase some flea spray. Finding insect repellent I went to the till to check if they had any other stock. Not only did Dawn and her colleague show me I'd been looking in the wrong place (my bad) but then told me exactly what products I'd need, how to use them etc and an if all else fails hack. The store sadly didn't have everything I needed so Dawn tried ringing a neighbouring store in Chester as it showed they had stock. No answer so I went on my merry way to set off flea bombs galore.
After this, I popped over to Chester by chance to see if they had the recommended products - alas the shelf was empty when i got there, gutted. Armed with a few other products I approached till, the chap looked at me and said...'Frodsham? I've got all your things here, Dawn rang'. So not only had she tried again for me ehen id left but the other store had reserved the items for me...just in case! Amazing team work at both stores.
One very happy customer and thankful dog. - thank you all

Went into the moreton store last…

Went into the moreton store last Saturday and the female assistant immediately raised her voice at me as i entered the store and shouted at me for not wearing a face mask which i was wearing face shield mask instead and the female assistant asked me to leave the store immediately. It does not mention anything on the store window about not allowing face shield masks so i emailed rightway and asked head office which the company director wasn’t bothered and didn’t seem bothered about their female assistant been funny and abrupt to their customers and am not the only customer she was a bit off with.

Mr Allen
We have been in email communication and we believe we have responded to all the points raised.
As confirmed by email yesterday we are now posting these emails on Trustpilot for people to make up their own minds whether we have acted reasonably and value customers service or not.

Hello again Mr Allen

Out of respect for someone I have been advised is a long- standing customer together with their partner I would like your confirmation that you are happy for me to publish all our communication regarding this issue on Trustpilot then those viewing will be fully informed and can make up their own minds.

If you object to this please explain why.

Should I not hear back by 12 Noon on Wednesday I will take it you acquiesce

Regards, Rightway

Hello Mr Allen

I misunderstood your initial email, given the content I erroneously thought your complaint was about being refused service due to wearing a face shield and why they were not acceptable which is why I provided the link to the Gov. Website.

I apologise for getting that wrong.

The Area Manager for Moreton has already spoken with the store concerning your email, we understand that you had to visit the store 3 times due to a combination of the Face Covering and forgetting your card, so I can assure you your issue was investigated.

I further understand you are a regular customer and that you partner has since been in and interacted with the Team Member concerned without comment or friction.

We are in extremely challenging times for everyone, and, on occasion, people do act out of their normal character.

As a business we should always treat customers as we would wish to be treated ourselves and I am sorry that does not appear to be what happen last week.

Unfortunately, as I am sure you will have seen in the media Retail Workers have regularly been subjected to both verbal and physical abuse during this Pandemic at levels never before experienced.

Fortunately, none of our Team Member have been assaulted but many have received verbal abuse for just doing their jobs, this, understandably has resulted in some Team Members being sharper in tone than they would normally be.

I am not offering this as an excuse or condoning the behaviour but I do understand why it occurs, we should always endeavour to treat customer civilly, however I hope this explanation may allow you to understand why it happened and that constantly reminding people about Face Coverings to protect everyone and being abused by some of the public does, on occasion , result in a different tone than we would all ideally prefer.

I trust this answers your concerns.

Regards, Rightway

Dear Mr XXXX thank you for replying back to me i understand about the government guidelines and companies sticking to the rules to save lives but am disappointed with you not mentioning about your female assistant speaking to me quite abrupt and aggressively or other customers who enter the store obviously you don't care about that. So the next time i enter the moreton store i will speak to your female assistant like she did to me and am not the only customer who she has spoken to poorly in the Moreton store may be she might realise what it's like to be spoken to horrible from customers, Yours faithfully Mr Allen.

Hello Mr Allen

To protect all our Teams and Customers we continue to follow the Government requirements closely.

We have put the safety of our Teams and Customers above sales which is why we are still limiting numbers of customers coming into our stores at any one time.

Many customers have thanked us for being so cautious.

We are also well aware that many other retailers, particularly the large national chains have differing views, some do not appear to follow any of the Government requirements.

We are monitoring all the Data and hopefully we will be able to relax some of our safety protocols soon.

Below is the link to the Gov Website that confirms what does and does not constitute a ‘face covering’, as you will see this states a face shield is not a covering.

There is also separate Gov. advice as to what does and does not conform as a ‘face covering’ this advice is actually contradictory as is states a bandana/scarf is acceptable but also states that the ‘face covering’ must ‘be secured to the head with ties or ear loops’ this is the requirement we are following.

We ask anyone entering our Stores who does not conform to the Government advice whether they are exempt, if they say they are then we do not ask any more questions, should they say no then we follow what the Gov. has asked retailers to do.

I hope this answers your questions during these very confusing times.

Dear sir or madam, I went in to your rightway store at the moreton branch on Saturday 27th March 2021 approximately 2pm to exchange an item when a member of your staff female assistant asked me behind the till were is your face mask i said I've got it on she said face shield masks are not allowed in our store which it doesn't state on the shop window as you walk in and she refused me entry i felt embarrassed and humiliated in the shop. I used my face shield mask at hospital appointments, doctors appointments, supermarkets, and even at my work place in a school which holds 1000, pupils and know one has ever mentioned about me using a face shield mask. I returned to the store half an hour later with my face mask on as i entered the store the female assistant wasn't there but the two male assistants were there one of the staff said sorry about before and i said it's ok am just annoyed with the female assistant for her attitude and abrupt manner. I've been to this moreton store for many years and your other stores as well and I've never come across a member of staff like that i hope you speak to hear about her attitude and explain more to customers about what you can wear and not wear as we enter your store and put it on your shop window please. I wait to hear from you, Yours faithfully Mr Allen.

I recently visited the Ellesmere Port…

I recently visited the Ellesmere Port branch. As I was paying for my items, I was told by the employee serving me that in future I would have to wear a mask before entering the store. I informed him I was medically exempt, & I would not be wearing a mask next time I visited the store. The employee then told me in that case i would be refused access.

I made a complaint to head office who promised to investigate & get back to me. That was 3 weeks ago, and I have heard nothing.

I visited RW quite regularly but now go to Wilko and B&M instead as their staff seem to be much more accommodating of medically exempt people with hidden disabilities.

Update in response to reply 31/03/21.

Thank you for the reply. Despite assurances i would be contacted the same day of my complaint this is the 1st correspondence regarding the matter.

Approximately 3 months later.

You had my contact details & ample time to contact me and resolve this matter yet you chose not to. I am shocked at the response from RW. You have handled this appallingly.

You say, “we are accepting what our customers tell us for the very reason you cited of hidden disabilities”.

This has not been my experience at all.

Everything I have said is true. My medical exemption is valid, & my disabilities exist. Had you had the decency to get back to me as promised then this matter could have been resolved privately & i would hope more professionally. I left an honest review that reflected what happened accurately. A review you are now trying to undermine.

So, let us explore in greater detail what happened that day so TrustPilot clients can indeed decide for themselves.

On the day I visited your store the door was closed, and there was a sign displaying your Covid Policy. Customers were instructed to stop at the door, ring the bell & wait to be met at the door before being admitted by a member of staff.

THIS DID NOT HAPPEN.

Your employee did not even come to the door let alone open it. He leaned around the corner and waved me in. Your own CCTV will show this.

Straight away your employee has failed to follow RW covid policy, ignoring it completely.

Seeing your employee wave me in I entered the store & he returned to his position behind the counter. I was not wearing a mask. I spent several minutes browsing the aisles walking past him at the counter a number of times. At no point was I approached or spoken to. I then went to the till. Whilst paying for my items your employee informed me that if I were to return to the store, I would have to wear a face covering.

I informed him that a medical exemption prevents me from wearing a mask & as such i would not be wearing one should I return in the future.

Your employees’ attitude towards me changed when I said I was exempt. I am still young & my disabilities are hidden. Put frankly I got the impression he did not believe me.

After informing him of my exemption your employee immediately replied, “Well in that case you won’t be coming in then”.

At no point did I make any comments about face coverings in general as you suggest other than to explain I am unable to wear one due to a medical exemption. Yes, I became frustrated with your employee as he was rude, arrogant, and behaved in an extremely unprofessional manner. I left the store before he escalated things further.

Legal action was indeed mentioned yet not in the context you describe. Retail staff cannot be allowed to think covid guidelines are open to interpretation. They are not. They are to be followed to the letter & only change when the guidance is changed by the government. Employees failing to adhere to and enforce covid policy correctly not only ruins the shopping experience of disabled people but also puts businesses in danger of breaching the disability discrimination act.

Why should my shopping experience be ruined because your employee cannot follow Rightway covid policy correctly?

I do not believe I would have been treated in such a way had I not been disabled and able to wear a face covering.

Surely when investigating complaints, you get BOTH sides of the story. Yet this is our 1st communication since my complaint. RW made NO attempt to contact me to ask for a statement yet not only do RW seem to have concluded that am I in the wrong RW seem to insinuate that i am being dishonest and go further by undermining my statement and questioning my version of events.

The fact remains this incident would have been avoided entirely had your employee followed the covid policy introduced by RW. Yet he did not. So who is at fault?

Finally may I suggest Rightway better invest the time and energy used here into conducting proper, thorough and unbiased investigations when investigating complaints, whilst also improving staff training and customer service.

They should also pay closer attention to those they promote to managerial positions.

Hello MJ.
As we have now had 2 poor reviews as a direct result of our Covid-19 Protocols we are replying to both so Trustpilot clients can decide for themselves. Hence the slow response.
As a business we endeavour to offer good customers service, our Team work hard and the majority of customers visiting our stores are please with the service they receive, we regularly receive emails from customers praising a particular team Member or store.
Our business values our Team Members as people not just numbers.
With the arrival of Covid-19 our priority was to protect our Team Members and Customers from the risk of infection at our stores.

We have put our people over turnover and profit during this Pandemic.

We have several procedures in place, and they have been amended as required, when Government requirements change or when we assessed the risks had altered. The procedures include limiting the number of customers in store at any one time and following the Government requirements on Face Covering.

This is to protect everyone, and we believe it is the right thing to do.

Your recollection of the events you describe does not match that of our store manager you spoke to on the day.
He states that, when asked, you did not confirm that you were exempt but went on to make a point about face coverings in general. Had you confirmed you were exempt when asked there would have been no issue as we are accepting what our customers tell us for the very reason you cited of hidden disabilities.
However, you did not say you were exempt but did make a loud point of informing our manager as you left that you were in fact medically exempt and were ‘already taking a business to court over it’.

Somewhat different to your statement.

The Gov.uk website confirms what constitutes an acceptable face covering in shops and further confirms face shields are not considered acceptable as face covering.

Fantastic customer service

A massive thank you to the Rightway staff. I needed to locate some paint that was no longer in production to touch up a wall at home, and Rightway somehow managed to find me not just the tester pot I enquired about, but a whole pot, from I don't know where, then had them transferred to a branch that I could go to. Nothing was too much trouble, and the staff once I got there was equally friendly. One happy customer.
