What a state of affairs this firm is, I ordered and paid for an1817 Halfcrown, the coin had a rare error known as D over T, the sale went through and two days later a coin arrived, NOT the coin I ordered, I contacted them and they replied:
Thanks for your email. I am sorry about this. Can you please send us a picture of the coin that arrived and we will look into this?
I have to ask, WHY would they want photo's of the coin they hand pick as a replacement for the coin they claim they did not have? Mistake number 1 when you read their reply below.
So I sent the photo's and got the reply:
Thanks for your email. Sorry we did not have the coin as photographed and sent you a replacement in a similar grade.
The coin you received was actually slightly better grade, although did have some flaws on it. We also thought it had quite a nice tone.
Regards, Rendel/Michael Ingram.
At no time did they say the coin they had photographed and listed was not in their possession, they did not ask if I wanted to cancel OR have a different coin, it is my belief upon packing they saw it was an error coin and sent a different coin hoping I would not notice, WRONG, I am a collector and known exactly what I saw and purchased.
I told them I did not want a substitute of their chose so they should pay for the coin to be returned and give me a full refund, after five more e-mails to them, all but the 5th unanswered, they agreed to pay for the return. The coin was returned and signed for by Ingram, after another two e-mails to them, they sent the money back minus the postage, he asked, do you want the postage back, if yes, send your bank details.
After another two unanswered e-mails to them, I sent a PayPal request and they paid but STILL no communications.
In all my years of collecting, I do not recall dealing with such an incompetent firm with an appalling attitude, they blamed their computer for being out-of-date and slow, in not so many words, saying they could not guarantee they had any of the coins photographed and listed for sure!!!!!!! They gave no indication where the coin I paid for was only that they did not have the coin in the photo's.
Interestingly, their computer said the coin was available, when I placed an order, the computer sent me straight to payment asking how I would like to pay, I put PayPal, it then told me Ingram would charge me £5 to use PayPal so I used my card, the computer accepted the payment and in very short time, sent me the receipt, so a slow computer? I don't think so, when asked, why do you not answer my e-mails? They blamed the computer again.
How this so called establishment has managed to survive with such an antiquated computer is beyond me but, in reality I think they saw their own error in not seeing the error on the coin and did not want it to go for the price of a standard coin, ALL THEY HAD TO DO was ask, do I want to cancel the order because we don't have to coin we took photo's of and listed OR would you like a different unit? But no it all turned into days of e-mails and me threatening legal action if they did not act, their computer worked well then, very quick reply to that e-mail.
So, will I EVER purchase a coin from that crowd again, not a hope in hell, if nothing else, they might not have to coin they spent time photographing and listing, even if the computer says YES
