I purchased a Kingpin lock for my…
I purchased a Kingpin lock for my trailer and I only used it three or four times and when I went to use it this last time I put the key into the lock just to make sure I had the right key before I attached to my trailer. It was the correct key however when I went to pull the key out the whole Tumblr assembly for the locking mechanism inside came out with the key, rendering the lock now useless. The worst part about this experience, is that had I not tried the key first, I would have had to pay hundreds of dollars for someone to saw the metal lock off of my trailer. These types of supposedly heavy duty metal types of items should last a lifetime let alone only a few uses. A Kingpin lock is basically like a spare tire, it's not something you're going to use a lot but keep it in your toolbox just in case you do need to use it. So I did purchase it a couple of years ago and put it in my toolbox. It was stored in the original packaging with the original plastic and bubble wrap so it was not bounced around or hurt in any way in my toolbox. So when I contacted roadpro, I told them to ask me for a receipt for something I bought years ago would be ridiculous and that their one year warranty is useless because even if I used it four times in a year at the fourth time was 13 months after the purchase date and it failed, that still lends to the terrible quality of the product as you should be able to use it a lot more than that. And again I must reiterate that this is not a product you would use everyday but maybe a couple of times a year. So t h e i r warranty is useless. I wasn't really looking for any money back as much as I was wanting to give them the heads up that whoever's manufacturing this horribly faulty product for them, that they really need to look elsewhere. It's a commercial item for a commercial vehicle and to have something like the Tumblers, come off onto the key itself is just terrible quality. I have bought plenty of RoadPro products in truck stops in my 23 years of driving knowing full well that they're probably not going to last past a year. 90% of the time any of the DC appliances that you buy for your truck will most probably melt in the DC receptacle in your truck if used with any frequency, probably within the course of the first year. So you buy these things knowing that they're only going to last a year using them on a day-to-day basis. So I basically knew that they were overpriced junk but when you have a semi, we're pretty much confined to find products available in the truck stops. As a side note I'm happy to say that loves travel center has started providing another company's line of products which I am purchasing and I am very happy with which I will leave a review for them next. It's called Amarillo brands. Road Pros response to my complaint of their faulty product was pretty much useless but pretty much what I expected. So do not buy Road Pro brand Kingpin lock because the key and tumbler assembly will come out together instead of just the key coming out. I looked around on Amazon and I can see plenty of reviews on Amazon with the same photographs that I will be attaching here where you can clearly see the Tumblr assembly for the locking mechanism is stuck on the key. Obviously this is a company that does not care and they just know that there will be new truck drivers that don't know any better that will continue to buy their products. Hopefully someone will read the reviews beforehand. I wish there was a place to put photographs on here so I can send a picture.
