Cowboy Builders.

Cowboy Builders.

They seemed so professional when we was booking in but in fact they are an absolutely useless company, didn’t come round with a ladder to check the work I needed doing. Then, they ripped me off when they ‘did the work’ I’ve since had another roofer up and they showed me absolutely no work was done and they charged me 1100 for it! AVOID.

Terrible company

Terrible company. Found out that Craig, the owner does not like working for ethnic customers. They charge £50 attendance fee if you have a non british name. Free if you dont. Racist much? Ali Patel.

TOTAL COWBOYS...AVOID

TOTAL COWBOYS...AVOID. My experience below:

When we moved into our house, the RICS survey and subsequent structural survey highlighted that the extension roof was structurally unsound. It also needed general maintenance and repairs. As part of our sales agreement the vendors agreed to pay for the structural work and we would pay for the maintenance work.

We got many quotes and Bill (owner/salesman) from roof and loft services came to quote for the structural work. We chose roof and loft as Bill said he was a structural engineer and in the quote they said they would do all building notifications and permissions. We then agreed for them to do the maintenance work on the roof at the same time.

They wanted 80% deposits for both projects.

To not get into too much detail as it became a massive saga lasting months, issues we had were:

Poor quoting by Bill which meant they constantly wanted to limit what they had agreed to do. It was constant emails with them having to clearly state over and over again all communication on what was agreed.

Bad project managing by Steve their project manager, with little communication with us which meant we had to constantly speak to sub-contractors of theirs to get a handle of what was happening.

Timelines were non-existent with their work schedule, often not turning up.

Unsafe working practices with inappropriate scaffolding, materials and information being passed onto sub-contractors.

Even with an 80% deposit they hadn't paid the scaffolder, who then came to our property asking for his money or he won't remove the scaffold.

Demanding payment for the rest of the balance when they hadn't finished the job, saying the rest was just snagging (they still had half the guttering to do). In the end we had to pay them for the scaffolder, so it could be removed before they had finished the job. Leaving only 5% of the quoted price unpaid.

They didn't contact/pay the council for building notifications on the structural work but constantly lied about it saying they had. Initially, stating they could self-certify for structural work (you can't) and then saying they had done it, but when we contacted the council they had had no building notification application from roof and loft services.

When we kept asking about this they stopped communicating with us saying we weren't their customers (even though all work was done on our house) and became super aggressive about us paying the remaining balance.

In the end we had to get a structural surveyor to inspect the work and get building notification ourselves.

I then left a review on checkatrade and got an incredibly aggressive email from roof and loft services admin staff, accusing me of various things that weren't true. The review was published but they responded saying I hadn't paid on time and that was why I had a bad experience with them.

I see now that they have removed their checkatrade listing but from their website they still seem to be trading.

I noticed James' review here and I think he was fired for the scaffold issue on my job (because he had agreed to pay the scaffolders on time). When we looked into the company in more detail, as we were close to starting legal proceedings, we found that they are a registered sole trader under Bills name, even though they all say there are multiple owners, and they charged us VAT but we're not a VAT registered company when we looked in December last year.

In short, total cowboys...AVOID.

Terrible company - do not use

Terrible company.
Visited once and quoted,
Visited second time and failed install as they hadn't assessed the situation properly.
Visited a third time and increased the price by 15-20%.

They're now saying I need to wait 7 days for my refund (today is the 10th) because there's only one person that can do it and they work part time from home (???).

Please do not waste any time contacting or working with this horrific company, they will only cause undue stress and steal your money. We are seeking legal action.

I didnt go ahead with this company

I didnt go ahead with this company. I needed part of the loft boarded and the whole loft insulated. They arranged the survey very quickly, the survey itself was very haphazard, little measurement and not very well conducted. The quote was huge (£4000) and although I hadnt had other quotes, I decided that if that was the price of having it done I wasnt going to bother. I then had a followup call from them asking what I thought of the survey etc, I explained. I said that it was too much money. Then the hard sell started. What price would I pay? If they were to come down to that price (over 50% less) would I make the decision there and then. I said no, as I was always going to get 3 quotes. the reply, well, if you arent going to commit then there is no point me going away to see if we can come down on the price. I replied saying I thought that that particular sales technique was a bit strange when the chap on the end of the phone started to tell me they were out of pocket by sending the surveyor. It all seems a little sharp practice to me and I would prefer to work with a company that offers a price, maybe reduce it a little but have costed it properly and allowed customers time to make a decision.
