Performative marketing over function

I purchased this French-waffle tea towel from Saint Moso for $55.40 to support a local Tasmanian business and find a high-quality match for a reliable waffle tea towel I have owned for over 20 years.

Unfortunately, this Saint Moso product represents a failure of the first principles of functional household textiles.
A tea towel is a high-utility resource meant to withstand hard everyday use and regular laundering.
Instead of matching the requirements of a heavy, loose-weave French waffle fabric, the manufacturing process has left it structurally unstable.
The edge is finished with a low-density machine overlock directly over the raw fabric, entirely bypassing the standard double-fold lockstitch hem. Because a heavy waffle weave consists of loose, floating threads, an exposed overlock provides no structural core.
The shifting of the fabric under tension rapidly works the threads loose; mine arrived already fraying at the edge before its first use.
The tea towel is marketed as "intended for everyday kitchen use".
However, using this as a functional kitchen tool would cause it to unravel. The structural deficiencies extend to the finishing details.

By contrast, my existing tea towel was moderately priced, soundly constructed, and has required zero mending in two decades.
It features a robust hanger tab securely engineered into the corner—a utility feature made possible precisely because of its proper double-fold hem construction.
By contrast, the Saint Moso tea towel has a brand label roughly stitched down on three sides to do double duty as a brand label and hanging tab, leaving it prone to catching and tearing.

Any repairs to the St Moso product would not be a simple spot-mend; because the construction of a tea towel relies almost entirely on its edging, it would require remaking from scratch.
I am relegated to using a brand-new item merely as a toaster cover to keep it from falling apart.

This is a systemic flaw embedded in the design and manufacturing process. It indicates an approach that prioritizes aesthetic marketing over the foundational geometry of textile construction.

For a company positioning itself to a discerning market while marketing the product for functional kitchen usage, structural durability should be a non-negotiable baseline and the product should match the marketing.
This product is performative and unfit for purpose.
