Misleading Sale, Suspect MOT, and Zero After-Sales Support

I bought a BMW 520d from Phil (the owner) at SaveOnUsedCars in 2024. Communication before the sale was quick and helpful, which gave me confidence in proceeding. However, when we arrived at the dealership after driving four hours and paying a holding deposit, both Phil and his assistant were very rushing, dismissive, and provided misleading information about UK used car laws we questioned them about. Despite this, as we had travelled a long way and the car appeared fine at first, I went ahead with the purchase. The same day we arrived home, we noticed several mechanical issues and reported them immediately with evidence. After many follow-up messages and calls, no one responded for months. This was disappointing, as communication before the sale had been very quick and friendly. When the dealership eventually replied, there were brief exchanges, but once the issues and relevant consumer laws were pointed out, contact stopped again. We later sought independent repairs and were informed by the professionals that the same fault present on the day of purchase would've caused the car to fail its MOT. The MOT had been carried out the day before the sale, and it was strongly suggested by those inspecting the car that the MOT may not have been genuine, and they also informed us that falsifying an MOT is fraudulent and a criminal offence. Further checks also revealed undisclosed crash damage. The car still suffers from the same faults today and has caused a lot of financial burden. Based on my experience, and after seeing similar reviews from other customers, I would strongly advise anyone considering buying from this dealership to avoid or at the very least proceed with extreme caution, obtain an independent inspection, and verify all MOT and vehicle details before purchasing.

Couldn’t even give this company 1 stare

Couldn’t even give this company 1 star! Avoid at all costs! Last year we purchased not one but two cars from them! Well one year on both cars have been sold now. We have had 100s of issues with both the cars since we bought them and spent £1000s on repairs! When repairing them at our local garages they advised us that both of the mileage clocks had been rolled back! We couldn’t believe it and they had in fact done a lot more miles than we bought. Also I have now sold the last of the two cars to discover the log book was never received (my own fault for not checking sooner) when chasing up with the DVLA it was in fact registered to another one of their customers who we do not know and there is nothing they can do about it so I was never the registered keeper of the car! After calling all day to speak to a manager or someone called Shaun Mullen he has failed to call me back all day! They’re happy to take your money but that’s about it! Avoid at all costs!

10/10 aftercare

My son recently bought a car from here without telling me, and not being the biggest fan of “car salesmen” I was a little worried. After a couple of weeks of having it, the engine management light came on, at this point I thought I would have no end of problems sorting it out for him(works away)But hats off to them, they took the car repaired it there and then (new engine coil) I think.
Also replaced the battery for him as it was on its way out.
So as car salesmen go, I would highly recommend Shaun and his lovely wife to anybody.
Thanks again Shaun

They are the best dealership. EVER !

Before buying my new car I emailed a lot of garages & this garage was the only one to reply, so I thought we're off to a good start. Having to work away I wasn't able to collect it straight away, but they had taken care of everything & had answered all my questions. The day it came to collect the car it was the easiest process, the guy who went through the paper work with me was on top form and such a quick process. The car was in perfect condition and away she came home with me. A few weeks in I noticed a lack of power at times & then the EMU came on, I hooked up a code reader and sent a message (as it was late) over to the garage with the code & what the issue was, I then followed up during working hours with a call, Shaun was already on top of it, the guy on the phone & Shaun were really friendly, helpful & put me at ease, it's not a great thing to deal with, but cars are a bunch of moving parts, things happen. Turned out the previous owner had done short trips, where the car doesn't have a problem, but when you ask it to drive long distance at speed it was having issues, something nobody would have noticed unless you do the work commute I do, so certainly not the garages fault, just one of those things, the garage and specifically that of Shaun were just amazing at arranging everything and took care of everything. I took the car to the garage they had booked it with, after two hours I planned to go back to be met with doomsday, it was all sorted, not just a credit to that garage, but also this dealership and Shaun who picked them. Things do go wrong and the mark of a good dealership is how they approach it & they have been exceptional. I will always get my cars from here, I will push friends and family to and I would strongly urge you to. Thank you for such exceptional customer service and a wonderful car, you've been rock stars !

Poorest buying experience ever.

Poorest buying experience ever.

My wife and I went to view a car with this garage in January, my wife really liked the car so we settled on a deal and arranged finance through the garage .

We got a call a few days later when the garage went to tax the car car explaining that they don’t seem to have the V5 but said they would contact the previous owner to obtain a replacement and subsequently tax / transfer the car to my wife. She was told that in the meantime she could take the car and if pulled over she would only get a fine and they would cover the cost, we of course declined this and said we would wait.

After a couple of weeks we chased for an update to be told it was with the DVLA and would take a few more weeks.

At no point has the garage decided to call or email an update, it has been us contacting them.

As more time passed my wife put a complaint in with the finance company who stated that the garage should not have processed the payment of the car until it had been handed over, however since the garage had the money we decided to wait another week or so.

I eventually called the DVLA to be told that they had received no documents to transfer the ownership of the car or replace the V5, I was in fact told the car was still in the original owners name as of Oct 2021.

At this point we told the garage we were no longer interested an wanted the deal reversing and the original finance deal of my wife’s part-ex put back in place .

We have now had the agreement put back in place though my wife is massively upset with the whole stress caused.

While I’m sure some people have had a good experience with this garage, and to his credit Shaun (I assume the manager ) did help get the deal rewound , however I would say do your homework and Make sure they have all the relevant papers before finance is processed.

Avoid - Please do not buy a car from these…

Please do not buy a car from these people. This garage sold me a car and arranged finance and part exchange of my car. Then told me 2 days later that they didn’t have the V5 and so were unable to tax the vehicle but told me I could collect it anyway as if caught I wouldn’t get any points, just a fine that they would then pay for me (stupid suggestion - I didn’t do that). They said they would apply for a new log book through the DVLA and that this could take up to 4 weeks, I said I would rather wait until the paperwork was sorted before collecting the car. 4 weeks came and went and still no update. When I spoke to someone at the garage they said there was nothing they could do and that actually it could take up to 10 weeks. I then involved the finance company who upheld my complaint that the vehicle should not have been sold without the V5 and that my options were to cancel and be left without a vehicle or continue to wait. I waited for a further week - still no update. Now 2 months from buying the car, the DVLA have told me that they have no record of the new V5 request being received and that if it had been sent it would have been processed within 4 weeks. I have now cancelled my new finance agreement and had the finance reinstated on my car which has now put me in arrears for the period when I was waiting which I have just had to pay to get my account back where it should be. The day I cancelled the purchase they re-listed the vehicle for the sale even though they still don’t have the paperwork and my finance was still attached as the finance company had to wait several days for the payment advance to be refunded. Terrible experience.

Well I rang them about a car

Well I rang them about a car, as I was local I told the sales man I would be there with in an hour to view, so I loaded up the kids & misses & 25 minutes later I arrived. To be told the car wasn’t on site & neither was the salesman. Needless to say I’ll never use these jokers again!!

Excellent

I’ve bought 4/5 cars over the past four years, apart from a blip with the first one which was resolved. The after sales service and pricing are “spot on” Just bought a cheap runaround over the phone, David the owner was totally helpful and the deal took 5 minutes, he even delivered it personally. I’m still driving two BMW’s I bought, a 630i and 520d Touring, both still 100% perfect. Would recommend if you’re looking for the best deals in the area. No pressure, great selection as well.

Not to be trusted

Awful.I bought a Mercedes benz from this company. When the log book came back it was down as a red car not the grey that I had bought. On closer inspection by myself the car had had a respray. As there were still bits of red if u looked closer. The company never disclosed that it had had a respray if they had i wouldnt have been interested in the car.On contacting the company the salesman said he knew that it had had a respray.I told that I wanted to give the car back as I thought the respray was not up to scratch and he told me that he would speak to someone who will then fone me.After 8 days and no contact from them i finally spoke to someone who denied all knowledge of the car having a respray.Only he resolve this is that I could trade the car back to them but obviously at trade price so I lose money on a car ive had only 4 week or they would get the red patches reprayed but do it for me at trade price.Just be very careful from buying from this company.

Car purchase and part exchange

Just purchased a Jaguar XK, dealing with David the owner. No pushy sales tactics, let us take it out for a test drive, then we left for lunch loaded with all the documents so that we could have a considered discussion over lunch and check out all the paperwork belonging to the car.
Upon our return, he left us with the car to look over it again, eventually we went inside and did the deal to our satisfaction.
Called the following week to collect and the car was ready and waiting with any items we had mentioned completed. David taxed the car and also surrendered the tax on the car we part exchanged. The car had stood for six months so the battery was not up to full power. We had to return home via a 70 mile trip, so hoped that would recharge the battery. The following day the battery was still not up to scratch, but a phone call to David and he advised us to fit a new battery and he would fully reimburse us, which he did immediately. Would recommend this company for its honesty and style of selling.

Calling Saveonusedcars 'cowboys' is an insult to cowboys.

[TLDR:] With Saveonusedcars what you see is what you get, therefore 1 Star is half a star too many.

{Full info:] I had looked at 2 vehicles that Saveonusedcars had for sale, the first was a Vauxhall Meriva, from which I walked away quickly after a walk around the vehicle revealed numerous scratches, dents, copius amounts of human/dog hair (down every seat crack), 2 bald tyres and a (completely misshapen) flat rear tyre, nice.

Unfortunately, rather than walk away completely, I decided to return later and buy the other vehicle, an Audi A4 which, although it had a few little dint's and scratches, it generally seemed decent value for money, also it seemed good on the test drive and best of all it had (allegedly) just been serviced a few days before.

I paid the full screen price for the vehicle (the salesman wouldn't budge on the price) and within minutes of paying for the vehicle I was given the new keeper supplement and then, bizarrely, the vehicle was moved to the business next doors forecourt (not very professional, but Saveonusedcars clearly have more stock than they have room to put it).

Anyway, there I then sat, on another businesses premises, in my newly acquired, uninsured, untaxed vehicle, trying to get road legal via my mobile phone and armed with a V5 that it turns out was completely invalid.

Naturally, on discovering the V5 was invalid I returned next door to the garage and the staff (saying it happens all the time/it's completely normal) gave me a form to fill out (to get the vehicle taxed and a new V5 issued via a Post Office)... in fairness one of the staff then gave me a lift to the nearest Post Office to hand in the form (half a star awarded for the guy who gave me the lift). Unfortunately, once at the Post Office it was quickly pointed out (and to be fair I had already spotted it on the forms) that I am supposed to actually wait 4 weeks after acquiring the vehicle before using those forms.

Fortunately (perhaps feeling sorry for my situation) the Post Office attendant nevertheless took my money and issued the tax for the vehicle. I then eventually got my insurance sorted too and by now pretty stressed by it all I drove straight home (a short, 6 mile journey).

The next morning I decided to check the vehicle over more thoroughly (lights, tyres etc) and I quickly found the offside front tyre had only 15psi in it (it should be at least 30psi), also I noticed the oil was low (and had clearly had not been changed recently), not a good omen considering this car has allegedly just been serviced.

Although I pumped the tyre up to the correct psi, unfortunately every day afterwards it has again lost pressure, so, whilst there is sufficient tread depth (and no sign of nail etc in the tyre), there is clearly a slow puncture. To be honest, the tread rubber all the way around the tyre does appear degraded/weathered like it has been on the car a long time or something.

My problem then, considering the car has been 'serviced' it seems extremely odd that the oil should be low (and discoloured to a degree which indicates it needs changing)... and added to that when there is a tyre on the vehicle which is simply unfit for purpose you have to question what 'service' if any was actually carried out.

I contacted Saveonusedcars via live chat and received a call shortly after in which I was told that the vehicle has been serviced, that 'Savoy' carried out the service... and that tyres are not covered by the Saveonusedcars warranty. So in essence it is not their problem, it's mine.

I can honestly say I have never dealt with a car dealership quite like this one... and I certainly would like anyone considering buying a car from Saveonusedcars to be aware that whatever they drive off the forecourt they are stuck with, so do every bit of due diligence possible before paying for the car, or, better still, buy your next vehicle from somewhere else because when you pay money to Saveonusedcars you are left feeling like you have just bought a car off a shady private seller, not a legitimate car dealership that actually cares.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
It wouldn’t let me leave zero stars, so I had to leave 1 star!!

Please do not waste your time, effort or money going to this car dealership, absolutely criminal how we were treated.

Sold us a BMW X5 with numerous faults inc the worst fault you can have, TRANS FAILSAFE WARNING!!

Car was collected and we had to go and collect (1 hours drive) telling us it was now all clear of faults, the same failure happened within a day of return, the attitude of showroom staff is utterly appalling, David in particular is laughable, stating it was down to us to recoup our own money on additional parts spent and new tyres, the front tyres on the car at point of sale were below legal limit (having just been mot’d) also down to us to pay insurance cancellation fees and tax cancellation fees, we are however due to receive the original purchase price back but are now hundreds out of pocket for the privilege of buying a car that was sold with known faults.

This dealership is absolutely shocking, please think twice before you part with your hard earned money.

I can assure you that you will regret if you by from here.

Absolute shambles

Absolute shambles. I am a mechanic by trade and lucky because if I wasn’t I could of ended up being hurt.
Phoned up to view Transit Connect 3 days prior to visit asked if it was tested and ready to drive away to which I was told yes.
So I turned up today (fellow companion dropped me off then went bk to work)
I was handed the keys and I went to view vehicle at bk of car park. The body was damaged but it’s a van so I didn’t really blame him. But I opened the drivers door to see the window wiper stalk was snapped off hanging by it’s internal wires.
So I asked how this passed an MOT but wasn’t given an assuring reason.
I needed the van as I was told it was ready so after a bit of haggling I said I would fit one myself (using one from another van on there stock) once I changed it myself in there car park I went through to there office to sort payment.
Once I payed I went to tax online to find out it hand tax actually been MOT’d at all. So I thought fair enough I wait. They asked if I would drive it to the testing station a mile down the road to which I agreed. So I got 200 yards down the road one or possibly both wheel bearings had gone the brake pedal was straight to the floor and it felt like the ABS was constantly kicking in. So I drove bk and kicked off. Not only did I have no way of getting bk to work they wouldn’t sell me another connect for a discounted price at all.
Left me stranded in Scunthorpe (I live in doncaster) and cost me a whole days money.
Trading standards or small claims court will be contacted.

service from start to finish , I travelled all way up from Ashford in Kent . John was first class and the car was just as shown on their website. A very friendly and professional service , I would recommend them and would buy from them again without hesitation .
