Do not be fooled by the description on…

Do not be fooled by the description on some properties. We stayed at Closeburn Castle between Christamas to establish the property did not come with an oven. When raising this with Scottish Cottages. They tried to convince me that a microwave is an oven. When raising this with landlord on the day. We were greeted with. A smile and grin. Do not use these clowns.

The Old Smiddy Poolewe near lGairloch

We recently stayed in The Old Smiddy at Poolewe near Gairloch ( April 30th - May 7th). Lovely cottages mixing old with new. Undoubtedly scenic location with river running past cottage and very cosy. I would highlight the airy and bright main lounge with it’s velum windows and wood burning stove. The cottage is heated by oil central heating and with the addition of a new Hive thermostat is never cold. The water is piping hot and I did wonder if it was necessary to have the Immersion heater on 24/7 as well. ( discussed with Mrs Alison McLeod- owner).
Very comfortable bed in lower double bedroom ( new mattress advised owner).
Constructively we wondered about a bigger fridge as tight for storage with capacity and especially if booked to capacity.

Truly lovely location and lovely prpperty .

Why no Feedback Forms

Why no Feedback Forms. We have recently stayed at Clayhills Cottage Blairgowrie booked through Scottish Cottages. I wanted to leave feedback to be posted on the reviews for that cottage to assist future clients and to warn them about the access, which is only suitable for tractors. However, there is no feedback form on their website and despite e mailing them twice and trying to telephone, absolutely no response, just the usual Covid excuse statement which seems to exonerate them indefinitely from having to provide any service at all.

Would not use this company for any future bookings. Impossible to obtain answers to questions either by phone or email. Originally booked a cottage 15 months ago unable to go so was eventually offered a new date in 2021but at increased cost! Agreed to this but am now faced with the dilemma that Scotland has yet to reopen borders and they want the balance of rental. If I am unable to go as a consequence and wish to cancel would suffer loss of deposit plus a cancellation fee. So will give the break a miss.

Overall customer service is non-existent not surprising when one of the directors took £300k plus in remuneration not much left for staff.

Use at your peril

I needed to cancel a booking for medical reasons. They ignored contact via their website and I waited 30 minutes for my phone call to be answered. As well as losing the deposit, which was expected, I was forced to pay £50 extra as the deposit I'd paid was apparently a "special offer". Their customer service is appalling.

Rotten Company

Contacted the company re a booking I had made for a big birthday in which 12 people from 12 different households would be attending. I cited my concerns that this would not go ahead due to covid. I was told I had no alternative than to pay the balance due in 2 week's time and hope the booking got cancelled later on. I asked if I could even request a credit note to use later on when the circumstances changed and was told no. I could pay an additional £35 to change the date. I feel like a lot more could have been done, I am down £200 at a difficult time. I will not use this company again.

Prompt refund for Covid cancellation when I eventually got through

I had to cancel a planned cottage booking due to new Covid "household mixing" rules, which would have made our party composition illegal. Trying to get in touch by phone was a nightmare, and I finished up submitting comments via their web page, and writing a letter to their registered office. However someone phoned me the following week (actually to chase non-payment of the balance on my booking) and left a message with an e-mail address. When I sent copies of my previous messages to this, I got an immediate response saying that my deposit would be refunded, and it was re-credited to my payment card within a couple of days. So good result in the end, but not easy to get there. I guess part of the trouble with phone contact at present is that their operators are all working from home during Covid, and the call redirection from their switchboard doesn't work all that well. Providing a system to request callback would help.

Not a helpful company

Wanted to move a booking due to the new scottish lockdown rules meaning that nothing would be open during our stay. I've had no response to emails, and after waiting on hold for over an hour was told basically i couldn't change it because it was inside 3 weeks before commencement date - the new rules came in force inside this 3 weeks so we had zero opportunity to move it - it was all entirely out of our control.

I know have to decide whether to write off the £500+ the cottage has cost or take 2 teenagers to a place where literally nothing will be open.

I won't use them again

Cottage description inaccurate and company customer service is poor

This company have poor customer service - I had a complaint to make and observations about some improvements that could be made in equipping the cottage we had rented but after contacting them in various ways they never got back to me. The main issue I had with the property was that it was advertised as having bathroom with bath, whb and wc and also a shower room with wc. It was part of our criteria that property had two loos. When we arrived at the cottage it transpired that there was NO loo with the shower. We would not have booked that cottage had we known

Appalling customer service

Booked and paid for holiday on 28th Aug in full.
Realised due to work commitments that i needed to change the date. Tried calling Scottish cottages 9 times over a 3 day period spending almost 4 hours on hold and never getting through, also sent 3 emails and to date i STILL have had no reply.
Started to worry that the company had folded. In despair i contacted their sister company and fortunately one of their representatives was kindly able to find my booking on the system and amend dates.
Had i not have done this i would STILL, to date be waiting for Scottish cottages to contact me! Have booked with them many times before and not had a problem, however, if they are not able to support their bookings during the Covid 19 outbreak they should not be selling holidays. Buyer beware.......

Quick to take money – slow to respond after that

Really poor booking service (eg September 2020) – we like the cottage but this booking agency is understaffed. Telephone system sends you to a different department to what is offered as an option (sends you to English Country Cottages property recruitment). They also expect you to pay the deposit before the owner has confirmed the cottage can be 100% booked (apparently the availability calendar is only a guide but took the money all the same). Lovely staff but poor management. Ideally avoid. Never managed to get a reply on the phone despite waiting a very long time. Eventually found the property owner without them and will book directly next time.

Cottage was warm and cosy area was very peaceful just what we needed. However, the mattress was hard the pillows were lumpy, a welcome pack would of been nice after travelling a long distance, a visitor book would of been a nice touch too

We booked a cottage on Monday ,full payment went out of account the same day , we received full invoice and confirmation also that day saying balance was paid in full and hope we were looking forward to our stay .Then the next day the owner of the cottage that we had booked messaged me and said that he was sorry to hear we had cancelled our booking .I immediately rend him and said I had definitely not cancelled my booking and couldn’t understand why he thought I had .He said he had received a message from Scottish cottages to say we had cancelled and that someone else had booked in our place ....I was absolutely fuming and so I tried to ring them on every number I could find that was connected to them to be told I’m in a two hour queue !!!!and as of yet I have still not got it resolved .... so be warned this company is not a good one stay away !!!
