While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

THIS IS A SCAM

THIS IS A SCAM!

I am a babysitter / nanny who uses care.com to apply for work. The people who run this site post ad’s on carer websites pretending to be a parents in need of childcare. I was offered a job by this person and sent a link to a live chat in order to do a background check for the price of £7 which I was told would be refunded to me. On the link the person told me I would need to fill out an application form, this form included: Name, Full Address, Date of Birth, Nationality, Email, Contact Number, Card Number, CVV (security code), Expiry Date and Sort Code.

After entering this information and submitting the form for what I believed to be a real government website it asked me to go back to the live chat for further assistance. I opened a new chat and realised the same person with the same photo was connected to me. (This usually isn’t the case as you would usually be transferred to a different person as it had been over 10mins). So once connected to the chat they asked me to confirm my Name On Card. Once I confirmed this, they then asked me to use my PINSentry to confirm my identity. They asked me to put my card into the reader and press identify. I then realised this was a SCAM. This method is used to gain access to your online banking, I then began asking questions and they responded with “please note that this chat is being monitored by the British Government and your attitude towards the chat is being monitored and will be included in your background check certificate.”

I then contacted the person via WhatsApp to explain that I believed the site was not legitimate, just in case they had found the chat online and didn’t know themselves if it was secure. They then responded with “How can you say the Government is not legal. Is this a joke?” I then asked where they found the link to the web chat and they refused to answer. Then I realised that this was the same person speaking to me in the chat pretending to be a mother in need of childcare.

I reported this to my bank and the National Fraud Agency. Please be aware. These people are very smart as they take the application site offline until someone is ready to make an application. DO NOT ENTER YOUR DETAILS!
