Argyll Hotel Dunoon
We visited Dunoon with our Elderly parents today (19/3/22). It was a lovely sunny day and we took them on a day trip as this was their favourite place to go in their youth. After a stroll round the shops we went to the Argyll Hotel for a spot of lunch. This hotel being one of their favourites places to eat.
Upon entering at approx 1.30pm it was clear something was wrong, plenty of people, no cleared tables and a queue at the bar. We asked for a table for 4 and we were told no problem but if we could wait a minute or two until a table was cleaned. So we sat and waited and waited and waited eventually we took the matter into our own hands and cleared a table. At this point we should have left as the problem became clear there was only one member of staff to do everything, bar, tables, waiting, etc.
However our parents were tired and hungry so we waited. We spoke to the waiter and he apologised for the delays and took our order. He was clearly rushed off his feet dealing with everything so we understood that he was under pressure.
We got our food nearly an hour later and they forgot my fathers soup (thats all he was having) and a side order. After another wait we got these items.
The meal was very nice but the overall service was terrible to the extent that several people walked out.
The waiter was doing his best but really needed assistance, at one point someone came and cleared a few tables and then left (we assumed it was a manager). Said manager appeared to be setting up the main dining area instead of serving waiting customers.
The whole experience was really disappointing and we wont be back in a hurry.
To have a busy hotel with only one person serving drinks and meals is unacceptable.
There was staff available that could have helped but didnt and that was the worst thing.
