Even after becoming a certified public accountant (CPA), I knew almost nothing about “SAVING” taxes. What I knew is how to prepare a Tax Return and tell clients how much they “OWE”. When I started my first business, I started preparing tax returns for Businesses and realized all I was doing was making sure filing a tax return that was compliant with Tax Laws just like 99% of other CPA Firms out there. However, I was not helping them “SAVE” any taxes. That’s when I invested in training with some of the Top Tax Planners in the Country as Tax Planning is something they don’t teach in Accounting School. At one of the conferences, I saw some accountants were saving their clients’ business anywhere from $10,000 to $110,000+ in Taxes Every Year by legal and ethical tax planning strategies even when those clients were working with a CPA before. This was something very different than the industry standards as most CPAs don’t offer tax planning in true sense. In fact, that was the first time I saw CPAs talk about saving taxes for their clients in my career. I had this epiphany at that point that I can help my clients save tens of thousands of dollars in taxes every year instead of merely preparing the tax return and telling them how much they owe. In fact, I was doing my clients disservice and actually costing them more money in taxes by not offering tax planning. And the worst part – neither most CPAs and nor Clients know that tax planning is something that is available to them that can save them thousands of their hard earned money. I came back from the conference and immediately started helping clients with a mindset of tax planning. I sat down with each and every business client of mine that was intentional with their wealth, went through 60,000-70,000 pages of tax law and found as many tax strategies I could. I ended up saving my clients as low as $15,000 in taxes every year to as much as $900,000+ on yearly basis. That epiphany to save our clients thousands of dollars in taxes every year has allowed my clients to hire great employees for their business, reinvest in their business for future growth, improve business performance and exponentially grow the wealth for them and their families via their businesses. As a result of that epiphany and lessons I learned along the way, I’ve realized the power of tax planning and that most Businesses are lacking this knowledge—to the detriment of their Business and Personal financial lives every single year.
