Great experience overall

Great experience overall! The kia sorento engine looked brand new right out of the crate and performs great so far. We’re very happy with how it’s working in our build. Took off one star just because the shipping box was a bit scuffed on arrival, not a big deal, but it stood out. Customer support was nice and easy to deal with. Would recommend to anyone looking for a reliable replacement.

I’m a shop owner in South Carolina and

I’m a shop owner in South Carolina and deal with a lot of suppliers, but Sharper Edge Engines stood out. I needed a solid engine for a customer’s 2014 Subaru Forester. Local junkyards either didn’t have one, or what they had was sketchy with no documentation or warranty. Jack at Sharper Edge took my call personally, confirmed the engine specs within minutes, and sent me photos of the unit. He even had compression test numbers, which was huge for me as a mechanic. I liked that he didn’t sugarcoat anything just gave me the facts. Yalda followed up with shipping updates and made sure the delivery was smooth. I especially appreciated how they handled logistics with the freight company and coordinated with my receiving dock. The engine came just as described clean, sealed, with all the info I needed. Installed it within two days and it’s been running perfectly ever since. These guys are now my go-to for any used engines. Reliable, professional, and refreshingly transparent.

I drive a 2013 Chevy Silverado for

I drive a 2013 Chevy Silverado for my landscaping business, and when it broke down, I was in trouble. Time is money in my line of work, so I needed a replacement fast. Found Sharper Edge Engines Jack was sharp asked me for the VIN right away and verified compatibility so I wouldn’t waste time or money. He knew the exact engine type and suggested one from a donor vehicle with under 85k miles. Yalda coordinated the shipping and even contacted my mechanic to confirm delivery time and liftgate needs. Everything was super organized. It’s been three months and my truck is running strong. I can haul, tow, and run my business again. Very grateful to have found a company that’s honest and efficient.

Wow!

Wow! Be careful be very, very careful. I bought a rebuilt 3.7 I5 hummer engine, rebuild was expedited because it was my only means of transportation. Was told that motor would come with new water pump, new cam sensor and oil pump. Engine appeared to have been painted on pallet. .motor shop upon installation had to add cam sensor, yet motor was to have been run before shipping. Upon start up engine made loud sqeeling noise. One of the timing chain bolts was stripped and siliconed in. Rubbing on harmonic balancer. After it was fixed noticeable cam sensor code. After two cam sensors and diagnostic ran, Cam appeared to have a bad pickup. Engine was leaking oil, and water pump started leaking ,finding cross threaded bolts. It was repaired
It was the towed to a shop in Houston whom originally rebuilt the motor. Then I was accused of overheating the motor thus wanting to avoid my warranty. Said if I didn't do it the installer did. Only 400 Miles on this motor. I called Jack he cursed at me said I overheated it
Pictures were of heat tabs on someone's elses motor. As I state motor was running and driving fine. Had heat tabs being melted motor should have been siezed. They agreed to rebuild my original motor. Upon arrival after several months mechanics pointed out that the head was right on this motor. I was sold a motor with dual camshaft pickups thus the cam sensor code. Now there was no need in rebuilding that one. I drove 173 mikes on my second new motor before having it towed home once more. Weeks later mechanics came out and said I have bad cams and will repair once more. That was 6 weeks ago. It's been 6 months and I still can't drive my truck. Understanding there fixing it, I'm without wheels. My biggest heart ache is being accused of overheating a motor which was babied but had so many issues and being the wrong one up front. I do hope I can come to a place and say great job. But I'm 6 months in and no truck.

I have the same story the other…

I have the same story the other reviewers have. They still have my car and have had it since the beginning of February. Promises of having the car back to me in a next week. Nothing. Then it will be ready on Tuesday. Nothing. Yalda saying she is so sorry for the inconvenience. Oh she thought I had my car back already. Lies. They prey on people who are vulnerable. Wicked! I have called the Houston Police department. Don't ever do business with this company. They are a scam!

I bought a rebuilt bmw x4 engine from Sharper Edge Engines two months ago, and the experience was fantastic! The engine runs great, and the quality exceeded my expectations. Jack, the owner, was professional, and Yalda was helpful throughout the process. They answered all my concerns and made sure I got exactly what I needed. The customer service was grate, and the shipping was fast. If you need an engine from a trustworthy company, I highly recommend Sharper Edge Engines.

Warranty Issue

I purchased a remanufactured engine in May 2024 from Sharper Edge Engines LLC. Within 4 months the engine quit working. I Sharper Edge Engines LLC twice (spoke with Jack, the owner and numerous times by email with Yalda about the trouble I was having. I took the car to the KIA dealership for diagnosis Dealership came back the engine would have to be replaced. I sent that information (diagnosis codes) along with all the required oil change information and still no replacement engine. I get some bogus replies from Yalda asking for more information. I sent everything they asked for. I am 100% serviced connect disabled and I need my car. I must pay for UBER each time I need to leave the house for an appointment Sharper Edge Engines LLC is a bogus, 3rd party operation who needs to be shut down. My suggestion to anybody considering a remanufactured engine to stay away.

No communication

No communication at all after my engine was sent out. They had me send my engine to a Gee's in Houston, Tx at the end of May 2024. Its currently October 2024 and I still don't have my engine back. At this point I had to sale the car because I couldn't keep it at the shop, my subdivision doesn't allow none running cars, and I wasn't going to pay for storage not knowing anything. I understand Sharper Edge isn't the one doing the work on the engine, but they are the ones that had me to send it to this stop. Knowing this was supposed to only take 3 weeks. Not once have they reached out to me about what they are trying to do to get my engine back. Each time I have called Sharper Edge or Gee's, I kept earing 1 more week from Gee's and that started in August. Last week of August they stated it was another Audi engine they had ready, but mine will be ready next week and he would give me a discount since it's taken so long. Never heard back from them after that. At this point, I will never recommend that shop, nor someone send their engine to Sharper Edge. Since I never got my engine back and had to sale the car they got a free engine from me.

Reseller of 3rd party engines

This company is a reseller of 3rd party engines, not a remanufacturer. No shop, no inventory, Yalda's home is the business address. They just have the engine drop shipped to you. My remanufactured engine quit in under a year, 4400 miles. Now fight to get them to honor their warranty. "You don't need the paperwork, just call us if there is a problem." Then you find out about the draconian oil change requirements under policies on their website. Knew about that? How about a third party insurer? Get past that and got them to honor their warranty? Now constant monitoring to ensure they fix it, then get a defective engine back. Crickets regarding the defective engine, valves installed so they would not fully close. This after finding the missing bolts in the valve train and the crank timing gear installed using two nail shafts. Lawsuit to get troubleshooting and labor costs paid on the original warranty repair as well as parts requested by, but not returned by "their mechanic" (not an employee) that had to be replaced. Now another legal action to get reimbursed for costs associated with the repair of my returned warranty engine. If you deal with them, keep all the e-mails, texts, receipts and correspondence. You'll need it. Better to just not do business with them!

There are so many inaccurate statements in their reply... I will highlight: my mechanic did not push a bolt in the wrong place, there was a broken tang from the head exterior in the head. They did not replace the engine, I marked the core before sending it back to them and I spent over 3 months keeping tabs on the "mechanic" who had the engine in Jacksonville. I have all the texts and pictures from him. I spent 3 months asking for the warranty troubleshooting and labor reimbursement before taking legal action and again texts and e-mails to prove it. Likewise I spent 3 months trying to ensure I got the parts requested by their mechanic back. They were not returned. Again, I have the texts and e-mails. They again assert they replaced the engine; the engine still has my name scribed in the block and the sticker from the original remanufacturer who went out of business is still on the engine. Yalda refunded me $500 to get out of her driveway where I was parked in Jacksonville to collect the promised full refund if the engine was not done ( I've got the texts and e-mails). Yalda was so sorry for all the inconvenience that she stated "this is not a refund, it is for all the trouble you've had..." The $455 was for the core deposit and broken water pump and missing gasket from the install kit. They did not want the core back due to all the problems with the remanufacturer. It took a Better Business complaint to get it paid. It may have been their final payment, but it cost me $1200 dollars for a dealer to figure out and fix valves that were not closing. That does not include additional monies to my installer for trying to figure out and fix my defective engine they returned. After 3 months, still no response. Guess you know what that means Jack! I will be more than happy to provide documentation, I have it all attached to the legal complaint.

Once again to their reply, the $455 was a refund of the core deposit I paid at purchase, to pay for a new water pump delivered broken the first time it was delivered, and the gasket missing from the install kit.

There is no mention of their broken promise of a full refund if the engine was not ready. It wasn't, no surprise. I drove to Jacksonville and parked in the driveway of Yalda's house, their business address on my invoice, and called her. She claimed they were out of state. Didn't get the promised full refund! She made it clear that the $500 was not a refund, but compensation for all the problems that had occurred.

The remaining amount they claim to have refunded is the warranty provided 1 hour of troubleshooting, warranty 10 hours of labor, and reimbursement for all the parts of mine that were not returned. That is not a refund, it is a cost of doing business.

They started early telling me they would return a remanufactured engine. I will happily provide a copy of their mechanics denial of my concerns regarding metal in the oil pan we found in preparation for return of the engine to them, and his admission that the engine was not remanufactured (as defined on Sharper Edge's website). The only thing done was the valves and they didn't do them right!

It took their mechanic a month and a half to find the broken tang and that was after the engine had allegedly been to the machine shop the first time. It allegedly went to the machine shop a second time, but their mechanic could not produce a receipt to show me what had been done. Given their mechanics penchant for losing parts, is it possible he just replaced the valves? That would explain the missing bolts and the improper valve install.

Great experience

What a great company. I just received my engine and it was clean and complete. I have bought engines in the past that never looked as good as this one. Hopefully I wont ever need another engine for my cars but if I do Sharper Edge will be the only one I go with.
