Greedy!!!!

First off I give alot to goodwill. I recently got onto the auctions on shopgoodwill.com at an employees suggestion. I have gotten several things but then I realized I'm paying so much in handling fees. I only buy local where I can pick up. I bought 3 different items at 7.99 each but each one had a handling fee of 4.00 which is half the cost of the items. So instead of paying $24, I'm paying $36 for everything. Its absolutely ridiculous and incredibly greedy. The site is super frustrating and not easy to navigate without having to constantly go back and start over. There is no reason you should have so many handling fees especially with multiple wins/orders. I expect better from you. Get it together and show some GOODWILL!!!!

Here's The Problem

Here's the problem: Goodwill needs to hire a large number of staff to run their 24/7 online auction, but the number of knowledgeable staff is insufficient to run a top-notch, continuous online auction. The items they photograph are not well represented, from the images to the descriptions. Often, they sell damaged items, take photographs that misrepresent, and mislead through descriptions.

Over two years, I purchased regularly through the online auction. When an item was damaged, they would have numerous excuses for not accepting a return. More often than not, their favorite was "Thank you for donating to Goodwill," inferring I wasn't purchasing an undamaged item, I was donating $$ to them. I even had an item that was damaged during a pick-up, and they admitted it was damaged on the way out the door. Again, "Thank you for your donation."

When you donate your items to Goodwill, they go to a central processing center where they may be auctioned or redistributed to stores that need certain items. You may think you are giving to your community, but what is happening is that you are feeding a large "non-profit" with a net worth of $93,000,000. So, while they may be growing to provide programs, jobs, etc. They are also an organization that doesn't believe they have customers, only donors.

And, this is why you can't find the same quality goods in their stores; it goes to an online auction that costs the consumer even more. Those who show in their brick-and-mortar stores are getting the leftovers. The way they are serving the community is costing it more and more each year. While the prices for goods skyrocket, the money in the bank for those in need remains to be seen. The poor remain poor, and the price of resale items just goes up. The online auction makes many donations unaffordable.

Goodwill can't have it all and be reputable. Either they are running a reputable online auction, or they are asking for monetary donations. Or, they are running a quality brick-and-mortar that offers their best goods at a fair price. This is the problem. Currently, they are taking a few amazing donations and maximizing the profit, but mostly selling mediocre goods, pumping up the price through an auction platform, and making the public pay for their 'mistakes', all from the point of view that a purchase is also a donation. The rest of the tired, poor quality goods go to the many locations around the world, and to your very neighborhoods.

Goodwill doesn't care about their customers. Please! Think twice. Think three times before buying through their online auction.

customer service gives you the run…

customer service gives you the run around and then tries to guilt trip you to remind you they help people with their sales. Just be aware when you shop at their on-line or auctions site that if you have a damaged shipment or incorrect items, you will spend a lot of time taking photos of the damaged items, packing and outside of the shipping box (because they want to blame the delivery service when they packaged items incorrectly). Their customer service needs an upgrade for sure

Shipping and handling cost on a 6oz…

Shipping and handling cost on a 6oz package. Handling is $5.99 (i was ok with that) but the shipping alone is 19.88 by ups ground. Goodwill Industries of Sacramento Valley has no idea what they're doing when it comes to shipping or the are purposely overcharging.

SHIPPING COST SUPER HIGH AND SHIPPING DONT SEND TIMELY

I love shopping at goodwill stores. The problem, they don't respond to calls or emails so if you have a problem your stuck. It can take weeks for them to be shipped NEVER timely. SHIPPING costs their making a profit. You can buy multiple items there to combine to save money they always leave something out or don't honor so if you think your bundling it may not work. If you get a past due even though it's their fault. So I'm on the fence. Also found on ebay check first you can save alot of money.

Don't give them any business

I bid on some shoes. Was the only bidder, just got a notification I've been outbid. So I try to go to the website, guess what it's unavailable due to maintenance!!!! How convenient. This isn't the 1st time they've pulled this crap. I also feel the prices for shipping are ridiculous. The item will cost say $5, shipping will cost $20. They say something weighs a certain weight & then add a few pounds. So basically they are lying! And don't get me started on the secret bids or whatever they're called. That's a bunch of b.s. What is really going on? What is there to hide? Makes me think there's someone up to no good. And the actual store's prices are highway robbery. I love how they sell 2 piece outfits, each piece separately. Bathing suits too. Surprised they don't do it with the shoes too. Hahaha. And the color of the day tags, whatever the color i NEVER can find that color. Overall Goodwill sucks

I like Shopgoodwill.com . . .

I like Shopgoodwill.com, I do. I read the bad reviews and continue to shop but, with caution. However, I won a bid on a piece of art that, according to Shopgoodwill's measurements and weight, felt the shipping would be reasonable. I had doubts about the actual weight but, I really wanted the art. (The item was very inexpensive and I was the only bidder.) Before paying I found Goodwill's FedEx ground rate (from Wash. State to NC) to be an exhoribant $64.77 - not including handling at $3.00 or cost of art at $7.50. Even in these financial times I suspected the charge was much too high and I let them know. I received no response. I called FedEx and based on Goodwill's information, the charge for FedEx ground is $26.00. I asked him to double-check, he agreed. Same cost. I contacted Goodwill and found I'd been blocked after my initial email. If there is an element of integrity, at the very least, engage the buyer, no matter the outcome. Goodwill stands behind a hoard of legalese. In my case, I feel it's a flagrant overcharge for shipping. There is little reason for a well-established charitable institution to give some shoppers the appearance of dishonesty. Unfortuntely, even with the reems of legalese, it's not enough to hide what appear to be questionable practices.

Never got the item I ordered

Never got the item I ordered, but FedEx says it was delivered, and only the shipper can file a claim for a lost package, so I’m just out of luck. I didn’t receive tracking information from the shipper until I followed up weeks after it was apparently sent, so I didn’t know it was missing. Poor communication, poor value, would not buy anything here again.

Rip off not, broken items or items not really what they say

Bid and ordered on supposedly fenton art glass. I won and not one piece of the glassware is fenton. Fenton is always marked on the bottom. Worthless cheap glass ware you can get at dollar general. Also bought a vintage egg scale and showed the weight was attached to the scale. Arrived no weight. Uselss also. All went in the trash. Stay away from Goodwill. PERIOD

Fake tracking number never got anything

They took my money, blocked my IP and never sent anything they put a fake tracking number that shows up as "canceled". They said that I had some imaginary phantom old accounts and that was their grounds for IP banning me so that I could not obtain any tracking information. I never had an account with them before. I could not pay for anything else because of the IP block. They even had the nerve to tell me to never come back again. All I did was pay for one item. They banned my account after I insisted on the tracking number. You can see it here, FEDEX tracking number: 287705424680

DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THEM THEY WILL KEEP YOUR MONEY.

Damaged goods

Typically our orders received are as expected. However, occasionally we receive the wrong stuff or damaged goods. After contacting the sending location, it is typically corrected. But I recently had a deliberately deceptive order which makes me pause any more purchasing. I won a bid for four records. Three came scratched so bad that they are unplayable. I contacted the Tacoma store and got the too bad, so sad story. I told them the pictures did not show the scratches and they didn't care. Case closed. No more Shopgoodwill for me.

Had a good experience, decide for yourself if it's worth it

I was skeptical about bidding on this website because a majority of the reviews report very negative experiences, but my experience so far has been quite smooth honestly

A lot of people complain about shipping price, but you're able to calculate/estimate how much it would cost to ship to you BEFORE you bid so.... if you dont want to pay that price, dont... the information is handed to you, lol. The shipping for my item was around 12~ dollars and in total--- my bid of 105, taxes, shipping and handling--- i paid 120ish

In regards to shipping (which I was very wary of, too, since it's been badly mentioned) I paid for my item--- a limited edition instax camera--- the day of and i think literally the next day it was already out for delivery. I was prepared to wait weeks, but I got it in the morning two days later, and the camera was very well packaged (bubble wrap, those air thingys). The camera is working perfectly, has no flaws, and is so cute!

I know a lot of people have experienced some horrible stuff, and i do feel bad in that regard, but with all things online shopping it's up to you to decide whether you want to take a chance on this or not. I wanted to put my good experience here because I know a lot more people report their negative experiences online, so having another perspective on here might help someone decide if they want to shop here as well :) I took a risk (unknowing if the camera would work or not) and I'm very happy with it, saved a few hundred bucks compared to if I bought this same camera from someone on mercari or whatnot

Overall: just be informed on what you're doing and decide for yourself whether it's worth your time and money. good luck

Not what it used to be

Full disclosure: over the last ten years i have purchased/won items totally Tens ofThousands. When i first started on rhe website it was pretty good however over time things have gotten much worse. As others have stated there does seem like there might be shill bidding in some instances, w I th specific listing stores being the culprits. S&h specifically their handling fees have escalated tremendously from an organization that n doubt gets very preferred shipping discoints and has zero cost basis for the goods sold and cheap labor. The most recent problem has been, again as others have commented, missing pieces/ items from packages received. When you point out the photographs clearly show "x" they offer no explanation as to what happened to it. Also packing for items has really become hit or miss. Sometimes theyll use what seems like a whole roll of tape on one package. Other times they just use "green" packing materials for fragile valuable items i.e. crumpled brown kraft paper instead of bubblewrap. Nothing like gettimg a vintage item in its original box that was perfect covered in clear packing tape. In summary for years it was a good deal with only minor hiccups now and then . Now at least 40% of won items have an issue- and usually cost 80 to 90 percent of fair market value. Therefore been buying less and less and going to most storefront locations rarely concludes with a real find.

I won an auction on 4 binders with cards . They were all numbered and in order to. It’s funny that only the valuable cards were gone from each binder . They go thru the cards and take all the good ones out to keep them or sell them in another auction . In the description it says “untouched and sold as it was donated . I call bs on that .
