Great support during an unexpected surgery

I had an unexpected injury that required surgery, and working with Sidecar made a stressful situation so much easier. Their Member Care team was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process—they clearly outlined everything I needed, answered all my questions, and made sure nothing fell through the cracks.

What really stood out was how quickly they moved to expedite everything, so I had all approvals and information in place well before the day of surgery. Having that level of support and clarity took a huge weight off my shoulders during an already difficult time.

I’m very grateful for how smooth they made the experience and would highly recommend Sidecar to anyone looking for responsive, supportive care when it matters most.

Don’t just talk about it; BE about it

Sidecar Health is a plan that empowers and rewards people willing to take responsibility for their health care decisions. After reading some negative reviews here, the common thread is that far too many people are unwilling to accept personal responsibility to shop for fairly priced providers. This attitude is the root cause of the outrageous and unsustainable premium increases we’re all seeing every year - and it’s not going to change unless people start taking responsibility for their health care. The Sidecar Health model is simultaneously the FUTURE (barring industry collapse) as well as the PAST - this model is “revolutionary” in today’s market yet it is how the US healthcare industry worked for decades up until just a generation or two ago (usual, customary, reasonable industry standards which were the baseline for all insurance). This is a foreign concept to most Americans today but it is historical fact. Sidecar Health will reward proactive and responsible people, and even if you struggle to adapt to an honest and transparent model they will patiently help you through the learning curve. Their coverage/benefits are more than adequate for the vast majority of care, and they protect you from emergency/unanticipated “surprise” costs. I have never had a better insurance plan in my life, thank you Sidecar Health and member care for single handedly raising the bar across a broken industry and being the change you wish to see in the world.

Overall I am really liking this insurance. Any time I need to call, they are very helpful and friendly in answering my questions. The app is easy to use and it's kind of fun to see if you can find the best deal for your money with services and prescriptions. Getting credits for using lower cost pharmacies and doctors is a nice bonus.

Sidecar Health is making a significant…

Sidecar Health is making a significant difference in the lives of our staff by helping us better understand the true nature of the care we are seeking and empowering us to be in the driver’s seat rather than navigating the bureaucracy of traditional healthcare.

The onboarding process, ongoing follow-up, and meaningful connection points they provide for our staff reflect the kind of support and engagement we have always hoped for but have rarely experienced as an organization.

The level of transparency and personal support they have brought to our team is truly making a difference in the lives of our staff.

Smooth Sailing During Challenging Times Thanks to Side Car!

I have had nothing but an excellent experience using Side Car. From utilizing it for routine Doctor's appointments to now having to managing a rather extensive healthcare event, the Side Car team has been professional, positive and present to my needs. I honestly can't even imagine having to navigate my old health insurance provider(s) during this current healthcare event! Side Car has made it so easy- from loading up invoices to reaching out to my navigator by email or phone to have my many questions answers quickly and compassionately. I can focus on what is important, my health and recovery, not paperwork and invoices. Thank you all at Team Side Car

Sidecar is a bad choice for prescriptions

Trying to maintain a schedule of obtaining medications is absolutely a pain. They expect you to shop around and get prescriptions moved from pharmacy to pharmacy each time for the best price. Even the screen shots they send you are not the prices charged at a pharmacy so where are they getting their data and information. This all just makes for terrible costs and wasted time trying to follow their processes. Avoid if you can.

Using the app, members can easily find the lowest-cost pharmacy in their area. That same pharmacy is typically the best option for all their prescriptions. There's usually not a need to visit multiple pharmacies for multiple prescriptions unless the member chooses to.

Prescriptions are also one of the easiest ways to earn money back. Over 70% of the time, members fill at pharmacies where their prescription costs nothing or earns money back. And 24% of the time, members still pay less than a typical copay on a legacy plan. We also offer ScriptSave discount codes built into the app, and members can use any Rx discount code they'd like.

We've been on the plan for about 18 months now and love it. The biggest factor for us is being able to get one of our kids into specialists who normally don't "take insurance." Navigating this health condition used to be terrifying — never knowing if we could get into a doctor (in-network providers had crazy wait lists) or how much insurance would pay for if we went out-of-network. Now we know that as long as a provider is seeing patients, we'll be able to get in.

Talk to a person, not a robot

Whenever I call Sidecar, I talk to a human, not a robot, and they answer immediately. Sidecar is a different kind of insurance but it’s worth it when you talk about customer service. Thank you for being what every other insurance company isn’t.

This insurance is a SCAM

This insurance is a scam. Consistently ask for CPT codes (which no other insurance has ever asked us to do), never pay for anything, refuse to find doctors to cover in your area and tell you to do the research (we've complained about this with our company's HR department and they finally did the flippin' work). They are absolutely the cheapest insurance for your employer to offer to its employees. We now will actively ask, if we ever have to change jobs again, if an employer offers sidecar insurance and will not accept employment with them purely based on this insurance company being offered as "benefits". They are not a benefit. They are a bi monthly leech from your paycheck and pay nothing on medical bills "benefit".

And no, we do not have an HSA account. You're just bad.

*** Need to mention that they tried to report my review and have it taken down. They were denied. Nice try!***

Every U.S. health insurer uses CPT codes to determine reimbursement, and some services require providers to confirm them before exact coverage can be finalized. For most care, Sidecar Health simplifies this — our app shows guaranteed coverage amounts nationwide, with CPT codes handled behind the scenes.

Based on your description, it sounds like you may be enrolled in an HSA-eligible plan. With this type of plan, non-preventive care is subject to the deductible. This means you pay the cost of care upfront, and those expenses count toward your deductible. Once your deductible is met, your plan begins paying covered care up to the Benefit Amount. This is a requirement for HSA-eligible plans and is not unique to Sidecar Health.

Every Sidecar Health member has guaranteed access to care where they live with no networks, referrals, or prior authorizations. Most members choose care that's at or below the Benefit Amount — 78% of member claims result in no cost or they earn money back, with members earning an average of $44 each time they spend less than the plan covers.

Truly a Game Changer

Sidecar Health has been an absolute game changer for me. They covered a procedure in full that my previous health insurance company wouldn’t cover a dime for. After years of dealing with denials and limitations, this felt completely different.

The platform is incredibly easy to use, transparent, and straightforward. I love that I have the freedom to choose who I want to see instead of being stuck inside a restrictive network.

It feels like healthcare finally works the way it should... simple, empowering, and fair.

Highly, highly recommend Sidecar Health!

We’re sorry to hear about your experience.

Sidecar Health does not require prior authorization, and fewer than 1% of claims are clinically denial. In some cases, treatments may be classified as experimental or investigational or deemed not medically necessary based on independent clinical guidelines. When that happens, the treatment may not be covered.

If you have any questions, our Member Care team is here to help.

Words cannot fully explain how…

Words cannot fully explain how incredible this company is. They stand out of the way of your Doctor and your care. all of 2025 I have faced some very complicated heath issues with Stage 4 cancer and also lost a spouse of 40 years. Sidecar Health stood right by me, covered all my care with some very expensive non standard treatments and covered it all. If it was not for this company, I absolute would not be typing this review, I would would be dead. I owe my life to Sidecar Health for the attention and worry free on who is going to cover the bills. I also am extremely grateful for their employee Ms. Debbie, who personally calls and checks on my needs to make sure everything is being handled. That is ONE CLASS ACT !

Worst Health insurance Company SIDESCAM

Sidecar is gaslighting everyone to get on board with their NEW concept in health care. Don't fall for it. Dealing with Sidecar is challenging. It is the most frustrating company for Insurance, potentially the worst insurance company I have dealt with in my life. And I had to deal with the VA for my father's care. The mental toll it has taken to deal with them. Tonight I just want to cry!!! Nothing is transparent, except how difficult it is to deal with them. Doctors sometimes do not take CASH. Surprise bills, yup, have them and Sidecar will not cover bills, so now I have to pay ( will be above what a co-pay would have been). Almost every bill is a struggle to get a claim. I have a stack of paper sitting next to my desk, with issues from basic to complex care. Sidecar will not send anything via UPS mail; they have no way to do this ( fact) I had to request, and they need to go through their lawyers to see if they could ( What, never heard of this, I just wanted paper bills and forms, etc). Nothing is easy or simple with Sidecar. 6 months just to resolve a normal doctor appointment. Even a lost card that was used by someone else took months to resolve. My surgery was canceled at a surgical center *due to a medical issue. This is understandable. Surgery now needs to be at a hospital. Sidecar wanted PROOF why! I got that proof in records, letters, and reports. (Life-threatening issues were not enough in the records.) It took many calls, emails, and driving to providers and hospitals to get records, as some records couldn't be found on online portals. After weeks and providing everything I could get my hands on, SideCar has denied my surgery at a hospital. The surgical center will not do the surgery., I have that in a physical official letter. I spent $$$ and time to get this surgery done, and without it, my mobility will be limited. Living on painkillers and not being able to do simple things like getting groceries is going to happen soon. Earlier this year, it was impossible to get around. I'm not old!!! I'm the one you look at in the Handicap space and comment Why does she need a handicap spot. Till you see me walk... This is NOT INSURANCE. Sidecar is a SIDESCAM. Customer service is uneducated, one rep's last job was an UBER driver (no dish on that it's a reality in the job world). The work you need to put in for the claims is a second job. Someone (Patrick Quigley) Sidecar has found a loophole in the ACA to get in. Patrick Quigley, by the way, is a tech guy, as with most tech, it's about the money. he and his company are not out to keep you healthy, they are here to make MONEY! Their advertising is slick, but in no way let that sway you into enrolling. Read reviews. Sidecar has bots all over, esp Reddit. Find real reviews from real customers as to real experiences. Go with a company for your Health care that has a track record, and not one that is a tech start-up and NEW to the game. Normal traditional health care companies have their challenges, but they pale in comparison to SideSCAM
Response: The claim that " doctors do not take cash from Sidecar is incorrect. I have proof and receipts (Broken messages threads from Sidecar) that some doctors will not take cash, self-pay. With normal insurance, you would pay with a CC, and doctors do take that for payment of a co-pay.
As to the Hospital, I only received a PREAPPROVED for TWO hospitals, not multiple hospitals. ( have proof. These two hospitals are the only ones where the doctor practices.
As far as choice, I do not have a CHOICE, as I'm on a wait list for a cancellation. My surgery was canceled at a surgery center due to medical complications. One hospital is covered, the other is over $37,000 out of pocket after the deductible.
Again, I do not have a CHOICE, I get the call and surgery is scheduled. Working days & weeks to get and submit records, letters, and calls to doctors, providers, and hospitals. Even an SC informs me I have to go to a surgery center, which I can not, they will not do the surgery due to risks. WHAT??
Tranpancey, you will have surprise billing; costs are not on the website or app. Fact: Even on the app, you can't view your policy. Messages have been deleted, and are missing between SC and me, on the website and app. I'm unable to go back to the beginning of message threads. (app and website). Have proof! You will need preapproval.
"NOT ALL DOCTORS DO SELF-PAY". SC reps are not educated in HEALTH Insurance state law and regulations.
Many services and procedures are not searchable on the site to get costs. Even if you find a service, it's very vague as to what SS will cover
There is no saving when the amount of work is HOURS and WEEKS, and you are still paying exorbitant costs out of pocket. NOT ALL DOCTORS WILL DO SELF-PAY!! SC reviewed my case. Complaint 11/3 was after the review rec FRI 10/30. SC, get your act together. Stop the gaslighting

Reply from Sidecar Health

We appreciate the chance to clarify how Sidecar Health actually works, because several of the claims in this review misrepresent our model.

Sidecar Health is fully ACA-compliant employer-sponsored major medical coverage, recognized in all 50 states. Our plans meet federal standards for comprehensive health benefits and undergo the same regulatory review as any other qualified health plan.

While traditional insurance companies rely on networks, referrals, prior authorizations, and denials to lower costs, Sidecar Health’s approach is unique. We offer members a “Benefit Amount” for every type of healthcare service they might need. That amount is set to the local average where the member lives. When members choose lower-cost care, they get to keep half the savings. When they choose more expensive care, they simply pay the difference themselves. Either way, the choice is there.

Sometimes, members might need to get a procedure at a more expensive facility. In those instances, the member requests a higher Benefit Amount and provides documentation for why their procedure needs to take place in, say, a hospital setting. In this member’s case, that’s what happened. Their request for a higher Benefit Amount was approved, but the member submitted a complaint here before we finished our review.

The claim that “doctors do not take cash” is incorrect. Nearly every provider in the U.S. accepts credit cards, which is how our members pay at the time of care. This direct-pay model allows providers to get paid immediately and often results in discounted rates for patients.

We also want to be clear that Sidecar Health does not pay for or manipulate online reviews. Trustpilot strictly prohibits paid or incentivized feedback, and we share that commitment to transparency. Our team responds to reviews like this one to ensure accurate information is available to the public and connect with members directly when additional support or follow-up is needed.

Trustpilot is assessing this review in accordance with our flagging process.
