I could go on forever about the two…

I could go on forever about the two months I've been on this insurance, but I'll keep it at this: If you have a family, and your employer offers this insurance, opt out and get your own insurance. Customer service was made out to be very helpful, but the opposite is true. It's a lot of extra work, especially if the hospital you are at does not know their cash price for services at the time. I believe the company started with good intentions, but it has been nothing but a headache in an already complicated industry. Edit: they did offer a three way call. Customer care was incredibly rude not only to my wife but also to the hospital. They're the reason I'm leaving a review.

We are very sorry to hear you haven't enjoyed your experience with Sidecar Health. As you’ve learned Sidecar Health is different than other types of insurance. Instead of asking your providers “are you in network?”, our members ask “how much does this service cost?” for planned procedures or care. We recognize that this is more work versus traditional insurance and a completely different approach. Many of our members love that this extra work on the front end provides much needed transparency and additional healthcare literacy. Additionally, the upfront legwork helps ensure seamless process on the back end, which we know can be very frustrating with traditional insurance (including surprise bills). Hospitals are required to disclose their pricing and we feel badly that you had a hard time getting that information from them and that the 3 way call our member care offered for you with the provider wasn't to your satisfaction. We take these reviews very seriously and will be reaching out to learn more.

Way better than my employer given plan

Highly recommend this company! I have had insurance with leading commercial companies and though it was employer paid, it was and HMO with high deductible. I went part time, 24 hours a week and become ineligible. I also run my own business and came upon Sidecar while searching for an answer. The marketplace options were absurd for what they offered. I am so glad I lost my other coverage, this is so much better!

Longtime subscriber - Very pleased!

I have been using Sidecar Health for several years now. I love the way I can customize my plan to suit my needs. The first few years, I had a lower deductible and received benefits for the care I received. The last couple of years, I raised my deductible to lower my monthly premium and found that I still had the peace of mind that I was covered in case of a catastrophic illness.

again I look up shingles vaccine and it…

again I look up shingles vaccine and it says one thing but then covers only a certain one(which it does not say when you look it up before hand) so you owe. I have not ever looked up a drug or service and it be right. I called about the shingles shot and the lady read off a certain brand that was to be given. That's not what my look up said. She said she would get answer and call back- no call!!!. Very frustrating and not what what I was told would happen. NOT HAPPY!!!!

Sidecar Health is WORST insurance for diabetes ever.

If you have diabetes this is the worst insurance there is. They consider insulin not preventative and will not cover a dime of the prescription until you pay your crazy deductible and we all know how expensive insulin is.

Thank you for writing this review. We take reviews very seriously and would like to understand more. We’ve gone ahead and requested some more information via Trustpilot so we can be sure to address everything you’ve mentioned above. That said, we have members taking insulin that are pleased with how it works.

For Sidecar Health major medical members, Sidecar Health guarantees access to prescriptions at or below our Benefit Amounts, which includes insulin.

We are also always available to help our members (we have helped other members find insulin below the Benefit Amount). In some cases where the insulin prices have gone up, we have also increased our Benefit Amounts.

Great idea but reality is different

Great idea but reality is different. This will not help if you live in a state with Healthcare mandates, it does not cover in case of emergency, and if you need to use it for the Doctor's office the Doctor's billing department makes it very difficult to get the information that Sidecare needs to process a claim.

Finally!!

Ever since getting sidecar health it has been the easiest, trouble free, no BS health insurance I have ever had. There is just simply no problems with the process. I go to whatever doctor I want Pay at the end of The Visit like it's cash with the side car Visa and they automatically take my 20% out of my bank account and the 80% goes on the side car Visa. Uploading the bill on to their invoice website is extremely easy I just take a picture And it loads and I'm done. They even credit you back if they pay more then what I paid for a certain service at a certain practitioner without even asking. Another great advantage to having sidecar is I am still able to use savings apps like good RX for prescriptions.I would recommend sidecar to anyone.

Tricky in the beginning, worth it in the end

In the beginning it's tricky to get the hang of how this works, but after 3 years of being self employed and using sidecar, I got the hang of it. The trick is to call ahead and ask the place were you are going to tell you how much the service/procedure costs for self pay rate and its CPT code. They often question you for asking about the CPT code since it's self pay, and I always end up saying that it's self pay from a HSA (health savings account) and my HSA only approves the transaction if the invoice has the CPT code on it. After I started using this method to request info from a provider, I never got questions about why I'm asking for the CPT code.

In all sincerity, some services/expenses Sidecar pays very low compared to what it actually costs (most of the time I found it to be labs/MRI/CTScans), but if you are great at calling around and researching good and not overpriced places to go, at the end, it ends up that it evens it out.

I pay around $225/mo and I feel more in control of this health plan than paying for a regular insurance and getting billed an amount that I had no say over.

I guess my overall thought is that it works, however, it only works if you are willing to put in the work to call ahead and do a ton of research before settling with a provider... And also be patient because often providers do not give you CPT codes right away.

save yourself money. get a different kind major medical insurance

Cutting out the "middle man" with big Insurance and their partnership with drug companies has been easier to navigate than I expected. The Website has been easy to use. And both the chat feature and calling the help phone number has yielded immediate assistance. So far I have cut my prescription drug costs in half by using RX gold. I pay $10 per month for the service, but it cut my costs so much that even factoring in that cost I will probably cut my out of pocket costs by 2/3 at the end of 1 year.

Pleasantly Surprised

I understand that I'm paying way less than a normal insurance plan because I don't get quite as much coverage etc... but I just took my kids to the doctor for their wellness checkup, one kid got a couple shots, and not only was it free, but I got paid 160$ because I was charged less than SideCar's reimbursement amount.. Amazing :)

Great coverage, with or without primary insurance

I originally got Sidecar to cover some expenses until my company insurance policy kicked in, but ended up keeping my Sidecar because it was helping so much. I now put all of my co-pays on my card and they always cover me. I've had quite a few routine trips to the doctor and this has been more than worth it to me.

A very happy customer!

Sidecar works great for me and my wife. We are relatively healthy in our early 60's but we do have quite a few doctor visits throughout the year. The costs are lower than we expected to be able to get when we retired. The biggest drawback is not on Sidecar but the health providers. Why can't they give you the option of getting your itemized statement without such a hassle? It truly is the worst part of the experience but, like I said, that's not on Sidecar.

Good luck getting paid for claims

After submitting all of my paperwork they kept telling me that they needed my medical records, even after I uploaded them. They used this as an excuse not to process my claim. Total scam artists. Good luck collecting on any claims.

Awesome Service

I really enjoy using this service. I was in between health insurance and needing something to get me through 4 months without health insurance at a time when I was experiencing some medical issues. This service was a life saver. It has been very easy to use and the compensation for procedures/visits has been very fair. I like this so much that I am keeping this to supplement my high deductible health insurance plan.
