Product Recall and Safety Notice

On the 19th March 2022 I purchased a "Silentnight Smart Wi-Fi Plug - model A6". Today (17th March 2026) I received a message stating that this item has been recalled due to a risk of fire and electrocution? Silent Night tell you to bin the unit and they offer as a gesture of good will a voucher for £10 to spend on their website "sleepypeople.com".

This is a total joke, this company have endangered my family and my property for the last four years and they do not even offer a full refund. They now want me to jump through hoops to get a poxy voucher that I will probably never use all because they could not source safe products.

The following information from Trading Standards / Citizen Advice regarding product recall requirements is obviously wrong?

Full Refund/Replacement: If an item is recalled, you are entitled to a remedy that makes you whole. If a repair is not possible or safe, you should get a FULL REFUND.

Proof of Purchase: While retailers may ask for a receipt, you should still be able to get a refund or replacement without one if you can prove it is the affected model (e.g., photo of the model number).

Timeframe: You can claim for a recall even if you have owned the product for a long time, as these are safety-driven rather than warranty-driven.

My next port of call is the retailer I purchased this item from, obviously the manufacturer & the website in collusion with this process is not to be trusted.

Avoid Silentnight & Mattressman UK!

Avoid Silentnight & Mattressman UK!
Paid nearly £400 for a Silentnight mattress from Mattressman. Within 1 year the springs collapsed, foam sank, and it caused me severe back pain. Tried to claim on the 5-year warranty, but Mattressman refused over a couple of tiny water stains. Staff were rude, unhelpful, and only interested in rejecting claims.

⚠️ Poor quality. Cheap materials. Zero customer care.
⚠️ Don’t waste your money – avoid Silentnight and Mattressman!

Appalling Customer Service.

Some months ago, I purchased a Silentnight Memory Foam Mattress Topper from Lidl. Recently, a large bulge developed down one side. As I had lost the Lidl receipt, I decided to contact Silentnight customer services. They required photos of the problem, of the item laid flat and of the wash label which contained manufacturing codes. As an elderly person, it was difficult and disruptive for me to do this. After help from a friend, I managed to supply these photos. Silentnight then said that the topper cover may have shrunk, asked me to remove it and they would send a new cover. This was very unlikely. I had not washed the cover, the bulge was localised and replacing the cover would have been very difficult for me. I therefore decided to write this review instead. This has been a lengthy, time wasting and inconvenient saga. A reputable company would simply have sent a replacement as the product is obviously faulty. If I could give them zero stars I would. I won't be dealing with Silentnight again and intend to inform Lidl of the experience and Silentnight's appalling customer service.

Dangerous Product, Dismissive Support – Serious Safety Concerns Ignored

I am extremely disappointed with Silentnight after experiencing a serious safety issue with one of their electric blankets. After around four years of use, the controller began sparking and emitting a strong burning smell when switched on. This occurred during normal use, not due to visible damage or misuse, and could easily have caused a fire had I not been present.

I reported the issue immediately, expecting it to be treated with the urgency that potential electrical hazards deserve. Instead, Silentnight conducted an internal inspection and concluded it was just wear and tear. They dismissed my report entirely, offered no resolution or goodwill gesture, and showed no concern that this could be happening to other customers.

Even after I referenced relevant safety legislation — including the Consumer Protection Act 1987 and the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, Silentnight maintained their position and declined to take responsibility. Their attitude has been polite, but deflective and dismissive, putting legal defensiveness above customer safety.

For a company that promotes itself as caring about quality and safety, I found their response incredibly disappointing. I’ve now reported the issue to Trading Standards to ensure proper oversight. If you value safety and responsive customer service, I would urge you to think twice before buying Silentnight electrical products.

Heated Mattress Topper

My household is already the proud owner of three Silentnight heated throws which are used regularly on top of our beds and downstairs in the living room on colder evenings while watching TV - we love them. In January, I saw an offer for a Silentnight heated mattress topper and just hoped it would be as good as the heated throws. I am not disappointed - a fabulous addition to the bedding and far cosier nights' sleep! Thanks again Silentnight :) x

A fabulous mattress…

We bought a wool collection pocket mattress 1800 medium double. We have only had it for 4 nights and it's the best mattress and sleep ever. Padded comfort. So soft under the hips when on your side, we are both side sleepers. Hubby loves it as much as I do. Our old mattress Relyon was medium but felt a firmer sleep. We love this and got a great price. So no disappointment here.

Customers want answers This company will not accept any…

This company will not accept any negative feedback from customers who have bought there products and they are not safe and also caused serious injuries.
I don’t know how they are getting away with type of service towards the public, then they want to put the blame on a third party when you buy a product from a authorised retailer and it is boxed with silent night written on it they are held responsible the public are being misled by buying items which they believe are silent night products and they are not perhaps don’t put dangerous items in silent night boxes and when there’s problems they blame another company?
Go on Amazon there are hundreds of critical reviews about how dangerous there silent night products are .

Silentnight Orthopaedic Mattress Topper…

Silentnight Orthopaedic Mattress Topper - I have just purchased the above mattress topper and I cannot reiterate enough how disappointed I am with it - I paid £65.00 for the double and not only is it the most uncomfortable and poor quality topper it is the smelliest mattress topper I have ever had. I cannot even return it as they will not accept returns due to hygiene reasons so I am left with the worst product in the universe and totally out of pocket.

I cannot believe that Silentnight could even have passed this item through quality control it is so bad.

I have contacted Silentnight and they said the guarantee covers an exchange of like for like, for manufacturing faults only and that what I described does not fall under manufacturing fault and also the guarantee does not cover personal preference or comfort cases.

Miracoil Easycare Mattress 3 year review.

I purchased a Silentnight Miracoil Easycare mattress approximately 3 years ago (it's Jan 2023 now) and am just about to replace it. At first, like most things the mattress was great and I had a great experience, but it's not lasted as long as I expected, and with hindsight I would have bought something better. The mattress is NOT double sided, so can't be 'flipped', but does need head/toe turning. It's rated as 'firm' and for heavier people, and indeed was, for the first year or so at least. Over time it has started to go at the edges, and now it's pretty much all over and it's getting replaced - I am replacing it with a 3000 spring, pocket sprung, more importantly, double sided mattress from Dunelm, that can be flipped and turned. Having spent a couple of weeks reading reviews and taking advice, I have chose the new one over all other memory foam/hybrid types as I'm always hot when I sleep and turn a lot in the night. The build quality of the Silentnight mattress seemed fine initially, and to be fair, until it started to go it had been a great sleep, but it's just not lasted as i Imagined, but maybe it's because I bought the wrong one and should have spent more than a couple of hundred quid. I have nothing against the brand, but it's not a great lasting mattress for heavier people, maybe more information such as weight ratings on their website would go some way to helping customers make a more informed choice.
