Scammers

Scammers. We bought their insurance and returned the car in perfect condition and they still haven't refunded our deposit 2 months later.

Catastrophic experience in Dubrovnik

Catastrophic experience. For the first time in my life, after 40 years driving and not less than 50 rentals, I was accused of "poor driving" and charged for a repair for 1700 EUR when the car was evidently flawed: a clutch cannot breakdown in 400 kms., and the car had 850 when I got it. Obviously, I did not inspect the engine or parts of it at the initial review, and they claimed I made no comments at that moment: on the external part, since the functioning of the car is an obligation and responsibility of the company.
I had contracted a full protection coverage and the car, with that mileage, is evidently still under the guarantee of the fabricant.
Both Renault and Sixt found more convenient using the credit card of someone having left the country to deny their responsibilities.
They also charged me for the truck and the petrol in the abandoned car. Pathetic and unethical.
I denounced Sixt to the authorities locally and I hope they will be obliged to revert this very wrong behavior. However, i do not recommend this company, which from the very beginning, instead of apologizing, blamed me for everything. Quite pathetic indeed!

Sixt over charge

Sixt charge us a prestation that was not requeriet and pretend it will be refundable if it is not used.(Baot fees)
I asked to be reimbursed but they refused pretending they never mentioned it can be refundable.
They are liars and thief

Rip off merchants. Avoid.

Rip off merchants - a scratch on the underside of the front bumper that I did not notice when picking up the car 5 days before suddenly becomes a 600 euro cost to me. I would have needed a mirror to see it.
Do not be fooled by the cheaper headline rate - better to pay a little more at the outset to deal with a more honest company

Agent misled me into buying a policy. Company refuses to address agent behaviour.

I made an online reservation for a car from a SIXT branch, in Zadar, Croatia. The reservation was in the name of my boyfriend to have a car for one day. Upon arrival at the branch, the agent told me the credit card had to be in the name of the driver, so I added myself as an additional driver as the credit card was in my name. Therefore, we had reached a total of €38 - all nicely agreed and communicated.

Then, the agent told me that I would have to have insurance added to my reservation - I emphasise that this was not presented to me as an option, but a requirement. She explained to me that they offered 3 types of insurance and that, regardless of my choice, the amount of the insurance would be blocked in my credit card along with the reservation costs. However, at this point, she explicitly told me that if the car was returned without any issues, I would have the insurance cost refunded to me. Then, I selected the classic insurance as per her recommendation and she presented me with the invoice. The invoice stated the amount of the insurance and she again reassured me that that would be the amount blocked in my credit card but that the insurance would be refunded to me unless the car had any damages they would have to cover. Based on her explanation, I signed the invoice. We delivered the car back the next day with no damages and everything went smoothly. Until I realised that they had indeed charged me for the insurance. When I contacted the company, all they did was to use the signed invoice against me and they refuse to address my complaint that the staff member misled me by saying I would have the insurance refunded to me. They have offered a voucher but I don't rent cars often so this solution is not enough for me.

PLEASE AVOID Sixt Split

Hired a car with Sixt; drove it approx. 50km when a clutch fault message was displayed; rang Split Airport office who said to carry on driving the car; rang them again and refused to carry on driving this car as the warning would not go off (& I have young children!). They very efficiently sent a replacement. 12 days later, when returning to the airport, they produced a report for a burnt clutch and presented me with an £1800 bill!! I’m a 46-year-old medical healthcare professional with 28 years of driving experience (and with nil points on my licence) and 8 year old twins in my car-I was not doing wheelies or doughnuts in the car!! I had it for 24 hours and did less than 100km in it!! And to top it all off, I was miss-sold a ‘complete liability waiver’ when I was picking the car up. This experience has caused me a huge amount of stress & worry and I feel like I’ve been robbed. Clearly, I’m refusing to pay anything but I just want to warn others not to use this company as they seem to lack any morals or ethics. I regularly go to Croatia 5-6 times per year for anything between 1-5 weeks at a time; I have done this for 4-5 years and have always hired cars in the past from Split airport (never before from Sixt though!) & I have never had the stress or inconvenience like this previously. This has totally ruined what was a lovely holiday & this cannot be amended, whatever happens with the dispute going forward. Please avoid them & book from other car hire companies (which there are plenty of at Split airport!).

AVOID!!!!!!!!!!

Be warned!!! When we returned the car to Zagreb the guy met us next to the car mumbled something about a scratch we didn't understand and asked us to sign a digital device. When we asked to see what we are we signing he took us to the office we waiting over an hour just to receive a hand written paper saying that they are charging us EUR 550 for a small scratch! It feels like they are out there to get money out when you return your car You are warned this can happen to anyone!!!! Avoid!!!!!

Awful experience

Awful experience. The guy in the Zagreb downtown office was very rude and basically forced us to buy their insurance given that in the reservation I did 3 months in advanced it said insurance was included in the final price. I told him we had our own insurance an in addition in the reservation it clearly stated insurance was included, but he said it was not accepted by SIXT and we would have to sign a document where we were responsible for any damage to the rented vehicle or to a third party vehicle. SIXT ended charging us $300 USD more than what was stated in the reservation. I seriously believe One Stat exceeds the rate they deserved.

I travel very often and will never use SIXT for rental car again. Please be aware of this an do not use their services

They charged us 500 Euros for a non seen scratch, with lauftlau and basically joy for this situation.
I never had such bad service in my whole life.

Nothing but great service, a good price and an excellent holiday.

Awaiting my refund of the excess...so my review may change given what I have just read below...but up to this point we had a wonderful experience with Sixt Croatia at Dubrovnik Airport. The staff who greeted us were friendly and efficient, and everything was explained well. We had 11 days with a brand new Seat Leon - it was great and took us where we wanted to go. When we dropped it off at the end of our stay it was another efficient and friendly process. Nothing but great service, a good price and an excellent holiday.

Terrible experience. Never again!

Very bad experience overall. I ended up paying 4 times more the amount I saw online due to them rejecting my debit card, saying they only take credit cards (even though online said that it's allowed for the type of car I booked). Since I don't have a credit card, we had to use my partner's one, which had to be the main driver, and I had to pay extra to be able to drive the car.
In addition to this, they say not to refuel the car because it's cheaper if they do it for you (they mentioned something like 10% cheaper). They forget to specify that they will charge you the full refuel cost even if you give back the car with the tank half full. They take simply take advantage of people and try to charge them as much as possible!

Don't rent a car here! They charged 50 euros administrative costs for a 10 euro fine!

Don't rent a car here. During our time we received a parking fine of 10 euros but Sixt deducted 60(!) euros from our credit card because 50 euros of 'administrative costs' were added to the bill. When we asked how these costs could be so high, they replied that it is a standard fee and that it isn't based on actual costs made. When we asked where we could find this amount specified anywhere (the Terms and Conditions you can find online only indicate that 'an administrative fee might apply', which we took to mean that we would have to reimburse actual costs made), the customer service responded that it is stipulated in a paper document that is available upon request at any Sixt location. Basically, this company works with two different Terms and Conditions, one available online and the other, more specific one that specifies the ridiculously high 'administrative fee', only available in print on location. We really do not mind paying for any costs we caused to a company when making use of their services, but Sixt's administrative fee policy just seems like a shady method to gain more money from customers. We will not be using their services again.

A smooth experience at Split

Maybe they have been reading the reviews, but this was a great experience. The pickup was from Split town. The lady who greeted me was friendly and sharp with Covid safety.

She clearly explained about the fuel policy and return full or can return empty and the refueling will be charged at a reasonable rate.

She was happy with me taking a video of the car around damages and quick to point out the listed scrapes. I had in advance taken out the "medium" insurance. There was no pressure to change which was a big relief.

When I returned the car, someone was waiting at the drop off car park. He was polite and we checked the car together (with safe distance). All was smooth, no problem with deposit return or unexpected charges.

Thieves

Thieves! Do NEVER use this «company» SIXT (Croatia, A-Anticus). Do stole a money from accounts for fictional and feigned damages that they generated by themselves!!! Disgusting service!!!

Surprise at all the negative reviews!

I'm writing this because pretty surprised at the bad reviews.
I wanted to see if bad reviews for other companies in Sicily on this site were trustworthy or relatable, so I came here because I booked a car from Sixt HR last year and wanted to compare.

I'm surprised because for 86€ for a 11 days rental (1-12 Sept), which is an insanely low price, I had absolutely no problems whatsoever with the little blue Mitsubishi Space Star I got from the Split Downtown Branch.

Easy pick up, although they tried to sell me insurance I didn't need as I was already covered by my bank, and told me that "a lot of things can happen in 11 days", which I found rather unpleasant.
I remember seeing a senior british couple being quite upset at extra costs for options they had apparently already paid online. But nothing happened to us, I guess you should just brush it off and show you won't take it even if they insist.

And easier even drop off which took no time at all.
I remember we found the passenger mirror in the sunvisor broken and I sent an email, never to be answered. And the usb plug didn't work when we tried to play music through it eventhough it charged phones correctly.

That's all there was to it, never paid more than 86€, and don't think I'll ever find a rental for this price and overall good quality car.
The same dates cost 123€ this year, I guess I was just lucky!

never again! they charged a deposit of nearly 300 euros, which we never got back. they kept writing, that they released the funds and the bank is the one that has to approve them, but the bank said that no funds have ever been released. save your money and don't choose this company

More of the same - Avoid!

Just like all the other reviews, just pay for a more reputable company up front, it will save you money.

Do not book with this company. This is an independent franchise of Sixt and Sixt will not get involved in any disputes. As many reviewers have noted, you most certainly will get a beat up car and then they will "find" damage after return and charge an exorbitant fee. We disputed the fee with our credit card and the dispute was upheld and both our bank and the bank representing Sixt Croatia agreed the charges were a violation. However, Sixt Croatia still went to a collections agency and since they are independent franchise, you cannot counter sue in your home country (unless you live in Croatia or maybe the EU). We talked to a lawyer who agreed this was a clear scam case, which is why our credit card upheld the dispute. However, the cost to get a lawyer involved would be more than the fraudulent charges. In the end the choices are: pay more out of justice/spite, pay the extortion, or accept the collection agency's actions. We paid. Don't be us, just pay a little more up front for a reputable company and avoid this scam. This reflected poorly on Sixt as well, and we'll be avoiding the company entirely in the future.

Update to my review 19 July 2019.

After arriving home I contacted MasterCard about the payments were going/had taken. It turned out they hadn't taken the 1500 Euro deposit off the card. I told them I had and issue with Sixt and I was sure a payment of 493 Euro would be taken. I was advised to report my card as stolen and the account would be closed and a new card issued. I took the advice. 1 week later the 493 Euro was taken off the new card number.
I got back in touch with Master Card and complained. They refunded the 493 Euro to my card, contacted Sixt (The retailer) and gave them 45 days to argue their case. (This is standard credit card terms as I understand. The 45 days passed and Master Card notified me that the retailer had agreed the refund.
Then in November, I received an e mail from Sixt Zadar telling me I owed 493 Euro. I replied with a copy of the MasterCard info.
Then Sixt Germany come to me with e mail, letter in post saying I owed 493 euro.
And today I have a UK company CCI Credit Management chasing what is now596.77 Euro.
I have told them MasterCard said nothing was owing.
I am not confident this will go away.
DO NOT USE SIXT, ZADAR.

It will cost you more than money. I have found this to be really stressful.
