I have been using SIXT for nearly ten years, their service is the best (I have tried others) I always recommend SIXT.
Con artists upgraded my car for me to…
Con artists upgraded my car for me to then be told had to leave a 1500 euro deposit even though company paid for and insured so cancelled and got a taxi less hassle would not recommend
Hidden costs, long waits, and misleading ‘upgrades’ – a rental experience you won’t forget.
I rented a car for 8 days. Although the company has a counter directly at the airport, the cars are actually stored off-site — you need to take a shuttle to get there. This important detail wasn’t mentioned anywhere during the booking process.
Upon arrival, the car (white) already had noticeable rim damage. We were offered a larger vehicle as an “upgrade” — supposedly an advantage, but in reality, it only increases the risk, especially when driving on the left side of the road. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is generosity — it’s not. Bigger cars mean higher risk, not more comfort.
If the cars are insured and the deposits are so high, why aren’t these damages repaired? On top of that, we were charged €40 for crossing into Northern Ireland without clear explanation — only later they claimed it was for “insurance.” Considering the open border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, this fee feels unreasonable. Another €100 deposit was taken for a potential trip to Dublin, even though we clearly said we weren’t going there.
We were also advised not to refuel the car ourselves because it was “cheaper” if they did it — which is absolutely false. Everyone knows “pick up full – return full” is always the fairer and cheaper option. The counter staff seemed well-trained to upsell and squeeze out extra payments wherever possible.
On a positive note, the return process was smooth — the staff there were friendly, competent, and professional. However, when we waited for the shuttle back to the terminal, we were told it would arrive in 15 minutes. After 35 minutes, the same excuse came again: “the driver is stuck in traffic.” The streets were completely empty. It was obvious they wait until the shuttle is full before leaving — straight to your face, they’ll lie instead of being honest.
Recommendation:
If they offer you an upgrade to a bigger car, think twice — the risk (especially with left-hand driving) increases, and no one’s doing you a favor. Choose a darker-colored car if possible, since scratches and damage show much more on white cars.
→ Thoroughly inspect and document the car when picking it up — rims, bumpers, roof, and interior.
→ At return, take photos of the cockpit and mileage, and make sure they show you the return report and send it immediately via email.
→ If you’re booking through Check24, double-check whether the insurance and excess coverage are handled directly by the rental company (e.g. Sixt) or if you’ll need to pay upfront and get reimbursed later through Check24. With German bureaucracy, missing receipts, and translation issues, that process can easily become a nightmare — even with legal help.
A bit more honesty and transparency would go a long way here.
Better than the competition
Fantastic service at the airport counter and very helpfull, they were better value than the competition, we received an upgrade and we would most definitely use them again.
Our agent Krisztina was wonderful
Our agent Krisztina was wonderful - she went above and beyond to make sure we had a smooth interaction, and her personality is fantastic. Thank you for making this so easy and stress-free.
Very good experience. Looking forward to my next visit.
Overall smoth pick up and drop off of the car. There were no waiting times at the counter. The employee was friendly and professional. Thanks to my Diamond status I got a great upgrade.
Great Service
Declan at the Conrad was really helpful and professional. Would highly recommend renting a car with SIXT at the Conrad in Dublin. Really convenient service and location.
great service experience
we were welcomed with a smile and most efficiently guided thru the rental e-paperwork for our 5-days SUV booking. Car was available as booked, prompt, in fine condition and clean. no issues with the car while travelling. return process was equally fast and friendly.

I didn't have a credit card to pay with, but Sixt still helped me out and I was able to enjoy a fantastic week's holiday in Ireland.
Friendly folks from start to finish
Friendly folks from start to finish. No attempt to sell additional insurance. My car had broken down so it was stressful enough to begin with. Straight forward.
Very good - Sixt Ireland Dublin Airport
fast, clear, kind and very helpful
Great experience from booking to…
Great experience from booking to interaction with Ed at Dublin Airport. I got an upgrade above the Van I needed which was great. I managed to use the Van
in less time than I needed it, I dropped it back and then I got money back, which was not expected. Great job from Sixt. Thanks
Good welcome and a good price.

Dublin Airport PickUp and Return
I recently had a long weekend in Ireland to see family. The service from Sixt at Dublin airport was superb from start to finish, particularly Leonardo. We got a great car and every detail was covered. I will be hiring my car from Sixt going forward. Thanks all.
Great experience
We had a great experience with Sixt - our pick up at St. Stephens Green was fast, the vehicle was as expected, and drop off at the airport went smoothly as well. I would definitely recommend Sixt to anyone renting a vehicle in Dublin. As an American, we were able to easily request an automatic transmission and the cars have helpful hints in them to remind you stay on the left side of the road.
Not good, basically terrible
SIXT informed me at despatch that we were to get an upgrade. The car we got definitely was not an upgrade = a downgrade. Essentially a profit making scam. We were given a terrible car. Certainly not similar. We would never have booked with SixT had we known the car they would ultimately dump us with. Our problem apparently . Was the only bad thing on an otherwise good holiday. Will do everything we can to keep alerting people of this scam company.

Spot On Service SIXT
Great rental experience with SIXT Ireland - the staff are ‘on point’: welcoming, friendly and helpful.
The car option of a smaller VW Polo was ideal for travelling around Ireland - right size and power for negotiating the smaller local roadways.
Return to Dublin Airport was also seamless and exceptionally fast. Thanks SIXT - and I’d definitely use your services in the future.

I know i asked for extra insurance at the desk…
I asked for extra insurance at the desk when I checked out the car at Sixt at Dublin airport and handed over my credit card. i did this for 2 reasons. I was nervous about driving on the left hand side of the road and my dear friend wanted to be the extra driver to "practice". And she ran into a curb and damage the hubcap and the trim on the lower part of the left hand side of the car . But I was so relieved because I knew I had gotten the extra insurance. And a tiny stone hit the windshield right behind the rear view mirror and caused a tiny ding. Well , it cost me $1700 and many emails back and forth with Sixt who claimed that I did not ask for the extra insurance. i looked for my invoice in the email and could not find it. I know that the paper they handed me when I rented the car was extremely minimal. The people were super friendly and helpful and I trusted them. If you're reading this review just remember to get a copy of your invoice when you rent the car and make sure that it says you have insurance for tire and windshield damage if you want it when you're driving in Ireland.

Decent, but careful with debit card
Overall, everything went well with the rental during the period. However it was after that they failed, a security deposit and the toll fee were not refunded after 3 weeks and failure to respond to emails asking has left a bad opinion of them. Avoid if you only have a debit card.
