Had a great experience with Sixt!

Had a great experience with Sixt Keflavik Airport. Quick pick up, nice staff who really cared about us getting the right car for our trip. Upon returning the car, we missed the shuttlebus so staff member James drove us himself. Great service and a great car. Would recommend!

Shameful

Shameful! I'm incredibly frustrated and I feel as if I was just scammed by Sixt. I paid $122.55 through Expedia for a car rental and Sixt charged me an additional $266.22 for insurance, additional driver and fuel. I specifically asked the Sixt agent if the $266.22 includes the rental and insurance and he said yes. He didn't give me the option to fuel the car outside of your agency which would have saved me some money. I'm appalled at this behavior and although I read a few negative reviews I was willing to give Sixt a try. I believe that Sixt should reimburse what I paid Expedia or at least half. Totally disappointed!! Who pays more on insurance than the actual car rental????

Very difficult - better to avoid

I cancelled my booking through phone and they promised me a full refund within 5-10 business days. In the end I had to argue with them for almost two months to get my money back. Finally I received a refund from which they subtracted 90 EUR cancellation fee.

Watch out-Scam company.

Watch out-Scam company.
You really need to be carful with this company-I will never ever use them again:
They found a tiny "new" dent on the car when we returned the car-ca 500 euro for us to pay. Thankfully I had a very detailed movie of the car before we rented (the car was full of dents and scratches), so we could dispute the claim.
You have to pay the 500 euro deposit with creditcard, not debitcard, not cash, not with bankwithdrawal. If you dont have a creditcard, they said you have to rent at another rental company. You then will loose the money you alreday paid (for us ca 600 euro). We were "lucky" that we could ask a couple we know that could drive al the way to the airport and pay with their creditcard. But this took alot of time from our holiday in Iceland-frustating strat of a holiday. And you have to pay extra to sign up another driver on the car and then ,as I wrote above, they tried to scam us with made up dent then we reurend the car. Stay away from Sixt....

AVOID Sixt Iceland

AVOID Sixt Iceland
Car hiring in Iceland is expensive, thats for sure. I did a thorough job searching for the best options and chose Sixt. But now I am sad that I did not read the reviews here beforehand.

The car was ok but the way they scam you on money is BAD.
When I picked up the car, I was not given an opportunity to rent with unlimited mileage, which I wanted. I was asked if i thought that 1700km would be enough for the 17-day rental. Quite surprising - as I told the SIXT representative that we would be driving all around Iceland, and therefore asked what he thought would be best for us. I said that if unlimited mileage would be a better option, I would like that. He just said - we´ll charge you the best option after return, the extra mileage is 0,55EUR per mile.

I received an invoice that is 1000 EUR higher than the cost I already paid! when booking a long time in advance, clearly stating what my preferences were, and also fulfilling all information they asked for. In my opinion this is NOT a honest way to treat a customer.

Keep away from this Company

Keep away from this Company - Its a scam!!! Upon arrival they rejected our paymentcards(both of them) eventhough it contained plenty of money. They did not want cash either and they could not Care less about you and your trip. A lot of people experienced the same thing.

We had to leave without a car but when we for home we see to our amazement that they charged the full amount from our card, so apparently it was not a problem to collect the money after all.

They refuse to refund the money as they have written somewhere in the disclaimer that you Can only pay with a certain creditcard. Clearly, it is something that they are used to doing. I am furious - they have a lawsuit coming their Way!!!!!

Good price on the rental but watch out…

Good price on the rental but watch out - they will get your money in other ways. We had a bad experience on delivery where a Sixt employee in four seconds found a damage - some scratches - on the car that was not noted in the lease contract. He knew what he was looking for. At pick-up there was several damages on the car, that was not noted in the lease contract and I had taken pictures of these damages prior to departure. The Sixt employee found these scratches UNDER the car and that was the only place I did not take pictures. (Now you probably will remember.) I wonder how many times they can `sell´ these scratches? But doing business this way, you only see a customer once.

The worst experience ever

The worst experience ever! Don’t use sixt as your car rental company! I’ve rented a car in Iceland, another car damaged rear bumper while the car was parked in the camping. We made an accident report, wrote that i’m not responsible for the damage. I had the insurance with 750 euros max responsibility in case i damage it myself. By in this case i wasn’t even the one to blame! But after a couple of days since i returned the vehicle they charged 750 euros, and after three weeks they charged 750 euros more!!!
So now i’m trying to get my 1500 euros back, but they don’t answer e-mails... If only i knew that they are cheaters. Strongly don’t recommend!

Very poor quality \ Service - Car in bad condition

Hi ,

We rented a car on 25/08 from Keflavik international airport .
A shuttle bus took us to Sixt office which was close by .
The pick up process was very very slow as the guys was new .
We got not the car we were expecting , as in HolidayAutos site they clearly stated in BOLD that " A German Car guaranteed at pick up " but we got a small Toyota instead ( the representative explained that he doesnt know anything about this guarantee ) .
After getting the car we started our trip and we drove around 350 KM ,
The next morning it starting to rain in Iceland , and after we turned on the windscreen wipers we found out that they are damaged and not working . it was SUPER extremely dangerous trying to leave the car and check why as we couldn't drive .
Then when the rain stopped after 1.5 hour waiting in the car we decided to drive back to the airport to fix\change the car .
when we arrived the Representative was so rude an unhelpful and made us wait for like 2 hours to get our car changed , not to mention that we explained more than one time that we already lost a whole day from out trip \ our time and money just for this damage that Sixt didn't check before giving us the car .
But she didn't really care and made us wait .
I exteremely not recommend to rent from this company in Iceland , as they are the worst , both in service and in quality .

Regards ,
Hanna.

False charges scam!!

False charges scam!!
August 7, 2018 These sharks tried to get me to pay for a scratch on the front fender when I returned the car. Here’s the scam:

On check-in they work at a snail’s pace (missing required forms, needing to confirm vehicle info.) then once your thoroughly frrustrated and ready to sign anything put an end to the Keystone Cops routine, they suggest you take pictures of any noticeable damage - that is not already documented. I( I took 10 photos including an odometer shot. They had a windshield star noted on my rental document.)

On the return, it’s they Tom and Jerry show all over again, but now you have a plane to catch, and don’t they know it. When your number is finally called, they doddle through the process like it’s their first time. The clerk inspects car and his first question is “did you take pictures of the car before driving off with it?” I assured him that I did, and showed the series. He said my photos were too far away to show the damage he found (a 1/2” Long scratch on the hood, and the windshield star) . He also tried to ding me for excess km usage. After a series of arguments he offered to reduce the charges to just hood scratch, like he was doing me a favor. At that point the commentary got pretty colorful, end with me jogging to departure in order to barely catch my flight after refusing to sign their damage claim document.
Two other people on my flight relayed similar stories, and I have found multiple complaints similar to mine on the web that follow the same pattern. It appears that this type of scheme is common with Sixt. This was my first - and last - time renting fro Sixt.

We needed help and got it!

We had prerented a too small car - but Sixt where very helpful in finding another solution for us.

The car where in perfekt conditions and drowe us around in Iceland for 3 weeks = 4500 km.

We where in the highlands and the car manager every bumpy road on our way.

The return where uncomplicated and quick.

If We come back We will use Sixt again.

The staff where friendly and qualified!

Be VERY careful when renting from Sixt

I've had a bad experience with Sixt Iceland. I urge you to be very careful about their terms and conditions, and ask about all possible information BEFORE you rent a car there. They have provided me with quite unpleasant surprises and huge unnecessary expenses.

1. The waiting time for receiving the vehicle was too long.
2. Upon receiving the vehicle I was suddenly told that Sixt can accept only CREDIT cards on my name to charge the deposit, while I have pre-paid the rent with my debit card. I had no credit cards with me, so Sixt employee suggested to purchase the full insurance [450 EUR], claiming that only then will it be possible to use another person's credit card for deposit. That is VERY suspicious, but I was forced to do it because I had no other choice.
3. After discussing this matter with my companions and finding one with a credit card available I had to stand in the long queue for the second time.
4. I received a vehicle with studded tires. In the following days I accidentally learned that driving with studded tires in summer is illegal in Iceland. I checked it with the police and it was true. I had to spend extra time and exchange the vehicle.
5. During the exchange I requested the Sixt employee to provide me with a complaint form, which he promised to send to my e-mail, claiming that it is only available in electronic form, but I received nothing.
6. While using the car, it got a slight damage (small crack and scratches on the front bumper, which is not unexpected from driving on rocky and bumpy Icelandic roads). I was pretty sure that the full insurance would cover that. However, upon returning the car in otherwise perfect and 100% fueled condition, Sixt employee notified me that the repair of the bumper costs 317 EUR, and the insurance covers any expense above 300 EUR.
7. I asked for a complaint form again, the employee checked my e-mail address, and I still NEVER received it.

All in all, I was FORCED to pay 450 EUR for NOTHING, without being informed about the credit card rule.
