Misleading sale & unsanitary used…

Misleading sale & unsanitary used product: DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS STORE!

We purchased a mattress from Sleep Shop Richmond after visiting in person and being explicitly assured it was new - just discounted due to lack of warranty.

What we received was visibly used, soiled with large yellow/red-brown stains, torn, and clearly unsanitary - with absolutely no disclosure of prior use or damage.

When we saw the delivery truck still on our street and called to have the mattress returned immediately, the delivery team refused, stating their boss, Farouq Manji, had told them not to come back. Farouq later denied giving that direction, claiming he never spoke to the drivers.

Farouq Manji initially told us it was a company error that we received this mattress and admitted it was a used, damaged, and soiled return - but when asked where the mattress we had actually purchased was, if this wasn’t it, he eventually acknowledged that this was in fact the mattress they had advertised and sold to us under false pretenses.

The dirty used mattress remains in our home.

This was a deeply disappointing and unsafe experience, and a clear breach of consumer trust, health standards, and basic business ethics.

I have submitted a formal complaint to the Competition Bureau and intend to file additional reports with Consumer Protection BC, given this company’s pattern of advertising used and returned mattresses as new on online platforms like Facebook Marketplace - inducing purchases under false pretenses and profiting through deceptive sales.

This store cannot be trusted. You are better off shopping anywhere else.

adjustable bed

Bought a Prodidy PT adjustable bed from Sleep Shop in Richmond. The salesperson was really helpful and gave us a great price. The delivery guys were also great - they were able to get the 360lb bed up a narrow turning staircase. Highly recommended.

We were looking for a specific sofa bed…

We were looking for a specific sofa bed and we went to look at on Sunday February 11, 2024. We liked the couch and were looking for a specific color and size and the salesperson would check inventory and call me back by Tuesday- no call so I called and left a message on Wednesday and she called back on Thursday and said the Canadian supplier had closed down and they were trying to get some from the US supplier. A week or so later I called back and spoke to a different staff member and he said they were getting some in March but he wasn't sure on color or size but he would look into it and call me back. I have yet to receive a call. I am guessing either they aren't arriving or our business is not valuable enough to make a call and provide an update. In a sense I am relieved we did not make a $2000.00 purchase I fathom to think how bad the customer service would be after purchase.

Poor customer service

We were sent from one location to another to see a floor model of a sofa bed- turns out they have not been able to get the colour for ages- but the manager did not know, and it is still on their website. Ended up buying in the other colour and arranged delivery for July 5: 11am-1pm window. I called the week before to ensure everything was on time- no problems, they said. On July 3 I got a text saying the delivery would be July 4, not 5 so I adjusted. July 4 I got a call confirming delivery between 11am and 1pm. Less than an hour later I go a call saying it would be 11am to 3pm. They said they could not deliver on the original date of July 5. The reason for the time change- Canada Day long weekend. I would have thought this holiday is on every business calendar. The delivery did not happen until 3:20pm. Three time/day changes, no apologies or attempt to compensate for the inconvenience and frustration. Btw- I also paid full price (don’t believe the promises of discounts!)

Love it!

Thank you Sleep Shop for a seamless purchase. They are so organized and personable. I got a personalized email a day after I placed my order to tell me they were working on it, then I got a call to tell me when the drivers would show up. The delivery came within the allotted time and the guys were great - so polite and prompt! Thank you - we are very happy we chose a local outfit like yours instead of Amazon!

Really great experience!

Really great experience shopping with SleepShop! I was impressed how quickly they shipped, and I was updated every step of the way. The deliverers were very kind and courteous.
