Failing business but with decent intentions

I can certainly empathise with the position of many of the customers who have had disappointing experiences with Slimline. Like some of the customers below, I paid a deposit for a frameless window in December 2019 that was ultimately never fulfilled. Communication with Slimline was variable and I was given assurances about fulfilment of my order/reimbursement of my deposit that were not followed through in entirety. The experience was frustrating, stressful and time-consuming.

To the company’s defence I believe that their intentions were honourable and they did intend to deliver on my order. They did issue approved drawings in February and did make a start on the window installation but later than planned in April during the COVID pandemic. However, they never got past installing the frame. I reached an amicable settlement with them and agreed to partial reimbursement of my deposit, which they did in fairness eventually start to pay back in small instalments until they recently ceased trading.

I have met the director Tony in person on two occasions and spoken to him on the phone multiple times. He is mild mannered, polite and unassuming. He always seemed genuine in his wish to resolve the problems I was having and confident that they could do so. On the occasions I was able to reach him, he was prepared to engage with me in constructive dialogue. Having since done some further research into Slimline, it’s become clear that the company was faring well until 2019, as largely validated by positive customer reviews and the absence of negative online feedback until the flurry this year. However, it has since faced a number of challenges over the last 18 months, including unexpected loss of key personnel, inadequate work by hired subcontractors, unpaid invoices and finally COVID. In all likelihood the business probably wasn’t run as effectively/stringently as it should - Tony was forever optimistic and I think he did believe in his intention and ability to turn things round and honour their active orders. Having communicated with several other customers, there are indeed examples of orders being fulfilled this year and deposits being partially refunded where they were unable to do so. But ultimately things had stacked up against Slimline and it was always going to be a tough ask for them to remain viable.

Of course, none of this justifies some of the negative experiences detailed below. However, it’s my impression that Slimline didn’t set out to renege on the orders they took and let their customers down. To the contrary the company has sadly faced tough times of late and perhaps they would have been better served by being more transparent and candid with their customers regarding this.

Don’t part with your money!! Awful and cheap service.

Horrendous - please stay away. They take your money then won’t do anything for a year, then snippets and won’t finish the job regardless of the number of emails you send them! Please don’t part with your money as the job won’t be completed!

Be warned - if slimline get a bad review, suddenly a few great reviews turn up which is very, very suspicious!!

They had an awful customer assistant who sent me photos of a pregnancy scan when I told her I was getting very upset and the huge stress she / slimline were causing me was affecting MY pregnancy. She was very unprofessional, extremely rude and told lie after lie. They said she was fired but in fact still works at slimline as some of the staff confirmed! She sent me an apology letter after a long time!!!

The owner promises to finish the job then doesn’t respond. We are now having to take this to court. It’s disgusting. Please don’t part with your money. They will mess you about for years.

We are still waiting for a response from slimline to finish the job which has been left incomplete! They change their name too so be warned! Just look up companies house for details!

Stop hiding slimline. You have no shame taking money from customers and not doing the job.

You have left our doors in an awful and hazardous state. It’s not safe for our toddler. The bars on the doors have been stuck with double sided sticky tape, one of which detached and caught my son!

Please be warned that slimline group /slimline aluminium will keep raising your hopes, promising dates to do the work then just won’t turn up. They tend to call/email the night before if you’re lucky to give you some excuse! This carries on and on!

The owner /director has various companies set-up and operating under different website names including slimline architectural..etc!!! Just search for slimline group or slimline aluminium and you will find other ‘names’ he is operating under!!

Buyer Beware. STOP before you go any further!!!

You'll see from other reviews that they take a large deposit up front, and in our case that amounted to just under £11,000. Despite numerous promises and various interactions we've not seen anything in return for the deposit, which was paid more than 15 months ago. The original company went "bankrupt" but "phoenixed" immediately. Tony Hall is the sole director of all the various companies involved. We were told the new company would honour the debts. It seems Tony is the director of up to 14 companies. A serious case of Caveat Emptor.

Suggestion.....

Once again I find one of my reviews about this group of companies under investigation. This company really does not like negative reviews. In my experience it is only a bad review that will get the company to contact us customers who have only written a fair and truthful account of their experience.
If this company were to spend less time trying to get these perfectly valid reviews taken down and more time concentrating on delivering the goods and services paid for, and stop ignoring the problems, they would have far less negative reviews to deal with.
Once again my bad review prompted an email from the MD in which he promises to email me today with 'a plan' . Watch this space. If he does I shall be more than happy to let everyone know. Of course he didn't!
UPDATE
I am happy to report that finally we have started to be repaid. Slimline are currently making weekly payments. It will take some time before we are fully repaid but so long as these regular payments continue I shall be happy.

No trust. No communication. No way to treat deposit paying customers.

Their website is now down and they refuse to reply to emails or calls. The stories below reflect our own - they have a deposit without any confirmation of progress for months and months. I have attempted to be civil and considerate - especially during these challenging times - but they have lost my trust. If anyone understands what is the best legal framework with which to proceed please let me know. Perhaps several of us can work together to achieve a better outcome. A shame they have left us adrift and eroded all trust.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

Slimline have reported my scathing review of my experience with them “because they think it wasn’t meant for them”. It WAS meant for them and they know it - we had MONTHS of protracted conversations about their appalling customer service. Nice try Slimline, you’re not doing yourselves any favours. Rather than trying to erase your past, how about you put some effort into changing your work ethic? Clearly I’m not the only disgruntled customer. AVOID AVOID.

PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS

PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS

We visited the showroom in Surbiton in October 2019. Delivery of sliding doors and glass was scheduled for January 2020 and prior to delivery a significant amount of money was paid.

Subsequent delays ensued with so many dramatic excuses for failure to deliver goods that had been paid for.
Consequently our building works have been delayed considerably.

Legal proceedings have set in motion.

This company Is a disaster and I wish I could turn back the clock!!

Please avoid this company at all costs

Please avoid this company at all costs. We paid a 40% deposit in late September 2019. A site visit was carried out in October 2019. Since that date, we are no closer to getting our window and structural glazing installed. Communication with anyone at the company was fine up until we paid the deposit. Since then, on the handful of occasions when we have managed to get any sort of response to our numerous calls and emails, we have been fobbed off with various excuses for the lack of progress and remain no clearer as to whether our order has ever been placed at the manufacturers. I suspect not, with no evidence provided to the contrary.

A quick trip to their 'Midlands showroom' demonstrated that it doesn't actually exist.

Please don't use this company. We are also going to commence legal action.

None compliance with basic UK Consumer Rights

Please, seriously avoid Slimline by all means, underwhelming customer service to say the least.

After securing an order on 10/10/19 with a 40% deposit for pivot door and single door systems , my wife and I asked to switch for Bifold on 25/10/19, which the sales representative kindly accepted and confirmed by mail. Until today however (26/04/2020) we never received a revised contract / quote for this work. After delays on our refurbishment work, we asked for a full refund of our deposit on 09/12/2020 (on the basis that no site survey nor production work was performed by Slimline). It's been impossible to reach anyone and get responsiveness from Slimline since that mail was sent. They've simply decided to ignore our calls and mails for almost 5 months, not even engaging once. We re taking it to the next stage and plan relevant legal procedures going forward.

Having investigated a huge number of sliding doors systems, and physically viewed a shortlist of six different companies, we decided the SL20 Otimma doors were the most superior and had 12 mts installed by Slimline.

They look stunning and we are equally impressed with the aftersales support as when one of the doors needed adjusting due to small movement of the new house they came within a day. Special thanks to Tony and Bob.

My sister had recommended slimline group so thought I’d give them a go based on her review of them, amazing product with a quality fitting team - I do have to admit thought sometimes getting in touch with them was disastrous at times but they’re always so busy, so job well done in the end.

The most appalling customer service…

The most appalling customer service I've ever experienced. Glass was fitted, several further visits were required to stop leaks, then within weeks the glass cracked in the corner and all responsibility was denied. Then after several months and promises of this being rectified I find that I've been lied to - the replacement glass has not been ordered and they have no plans to do so. Definitely a company to avoid.

Terrible customer service, 3 month late, pay upfront.

I would not recommend anyone to work with Slimline!! Terrible customer service, 3 month late, pay upfront.

We ordered glass doors and window (Camden, London) and paid full amount upfront. Our glazing was meant to be delivered on October 20 and it is now December 18.
1. Slimline is now two month late. Was promised 8 weeks and it's now 4 months. They were supposed to install today but just called to say it's going to be 18 January. We have insulated and very cold house in the winter (and have 2 kids)
2. The customer service is appalling - they do not respond to our calls and/or email and we are not sure what is going on and when our house will be finised.
3. The team did show up in October (unannounced) to tell us that they didn't measure correctly
4. They committed to deliver a specific colour and then after we paid the full amount they said they can't do that colour

We are still not sure when the job is being complete and/or what to do about it. Please do not use them!

I have been waiting for over 5 months…

I have been waiting for over 5 months for slimline to repair the leaking walk on glass. Broadly getting them to engage is near impossible. I would without doubt say their after sales service is the worst I have encountered. Please take to time to scroll down the reviews to see other very disappointed clients. As a measure of the treatment you will receive just try phoning them and asking to speak to someone. You’ll only get a message service and if it’s a complaint I’d guess no response. I am doing some more digging into their practices and will update later with further posts.
