They cancelled 1 hour before check in

Smartrenting have cancelled our accommodation 1 (one) hour before we were due to check in and they didn’t even try to offer any alternatives, we were renting from them via booking.com and they were not helpful either

DONT RENT AT THIS PLACE

DONT RENT AT THIS PLACE! The good reviews must be fake.

They are truly horrible people with an even worse customer service. We had bed bugs in our apartment (disgusting) and they tried to give us an even worse apartment in return. We left some very important medical device in the old apartment in our hurry to get out (we got bitten several times by the bedbugs and they were everywhere), but they forbid us to retrieve it or to bring it somewhere so we could pick it up.

After calling them 40+ times and sending message after message, they called and said that they would bring us the key in 40 minutes. We rushed to our apartment to collect the key and be able to pick up the medical device. Ofcourse, no one came and they ignored us for the rest of the day.

After that, we had to get the police involved to retrieve the medical device, but they still didn't answer. It resulted in a lot of stress and a bad medical situation. The told us lie after lie after lie why they couldn't bring back the medical device. Turned out, they had locked themselves out of the apartment and we eventually had to advise them to call a locksmith (they couldn't figure this out themselves). After getting in themselves, they told us 'the device was not there'.

The next day, after numerous more calls and messages, they finally let us in. Ofcourse, the device was there.

They only ignored us when we needed something from them, but when they needed something from us suddenly they are able to message us constantly. HORRIBLE people. I have never met people with so little empathy, I am honestly shocked by it.

Nice apartment, customer service/communication needs improvement.

Apartment itself was nice and in a wonderful location. Equipment was very basic (no shower curtain, no floor mat in bathroom, no towel or soap for dishes in kitchen). Communication with Smartrenting was difficult, after paying we did not hear from them again and had to ask one day before arriving how to collect the key. No e-Mail answer, the contact phone number did not work (tried several times on different days, only music playing). It took quite a while to find an alternative number on their website. Finally I reached someone at their marketing department who could connect me with someone from customer service. Key has to be collected at grocery shop 15 min away (one way). on a hot day with luggage… For checkout I also did not receive active information and had to ask again (by WhatsApp, no response). I found the information later hidden on the booking.com website, only visible when I tried to contact Smartrenting. On the day before leaving, I also received an e-Mail with the checkin information, NOT the checkout info (not helpful). Key had to be returned at grocery shop, quite inconvenient. With just a little more eye on details in the property and a working communication channel, Smartrenting could greatly improve the customer experience with very little cost / effort on their side - I hope they will, the apartment was great!
